2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

At least Minnesota didn't destroy college hockey like UND and DU. Thanks for making the next year fun and exciting.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Ooooh, I forgot about that. Another way that Minnesota is 100% innocent. Penn St is also to blame for this too, so it does seem likely Gopher fans will name them the goons of the Big Ten.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Sadly you are wrong Minnesota is 100% innocent in all of this. They were the last Big Ten school to try to make all of this work. Instead UND and DU got jealous and ran off with their bag of pucks.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Of course Minnesota is innocent. They are all-powerful in college hockey and control everything especially when there is credit to be taken. But when something "bad" happens it's never their fault and they are powerless.

Well that surely sucked. Congrats to BC for taking care of business for pretty much the entire game. Hell of a team that completely earned a victory.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

There's a lot more parity between the Frozen Four teams than many fans or the media realize. That is to say that the capability differential between most D1 teams is relatively small. Although BC has certainly been a juggernaut since the mid-season, I don't see Ferris getting blown out. In fact, I think they stand a reasonable chance of winning. Let's be honest, the Gophers didn't play their best game against BC either. I thought that was a 50/50 contest going in, but MN lost it psychologically. Building this into a David and Goliath championship is a bit of an exaggeration. I still think FSU is a relative underdog, but for those of us who watch college hockey all year, it's obvious that these are two VERY good teams on neutral ice and either one could win it. They both have very different strengths and strategies, but we've seen both types of teams win. I'd give it 60/40 in favor of BC, not the 90/10 I'm seeing in the commentary. I predict FSU plays tough and consistent throughout and that it's a low scoring game. BC needs to bring it or they will lose.

This is almost as one-sided of an argument as everyone vs. UMD over the smallpox chant. UND and DU screwed everybody (with a little assist from Barry Alvarez). The Gophers didn't do anything.

I agree ..........though i have only watched bits and pieces of Ferris. As BC fan, and an older one, i have seen too many go the other way over the years and in the not too distant past ,when we were the better team and lost, to be overconfident

Sure but he is actually taking my bait. LOL>

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Do you have the ability to not go full-retard when someone takes a shot at the Gophers after a loss?

Especially when the bear likes to talk a lot and rub faces in stuff.

I'm kinda curious to see what happens when the bear is poked. (insert deer joke here)

Will the verbal insults be incendiary? DL, grab another sharp stick!

Well yes. Truthfully I'm just using you as a ploy to argue with the delusional forklympian.

I can not even handle how awesome and sweet this irony is. Keep serving it up, guys. Some people need a taste of their own medicine.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

There is no question Milner played a he!! of a game, but, man, the gophers just flat missed a lot of wide open nets. I had the feeling that the way they were dominating in the first but not scoring if BC came back in the second and got # 2 it would be all over. It's hard to keep big Mo when you are dominating but not scoring and the opponent comes back to get one. I've seen enough of BC handing it to UND, but boy they are fun to watch. They also missed chances to bury pucks, but their passing game in transition and in the slot area is at another level.
I agree with this part.

And another thing. There is not much doubt that UND will be licking UMinn's arse next year. Can't wait.
Fixed this part.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

What was with that, anyway? I get that they wanted to check that it wasn't kicked or scored from the crease, but I don't get why it took so long to verify that it was a good goal.

All I should need to mention is ECAC refs Kotyra and Feola. ECAC refs are known to review goals just because they "want to make sure" despite there not being a good reason. Totally kills momentum for the scoring team.

Yeah, that was a pretty easy one to see it was not a kick in... it took way to long for them to decide.

My opinion has always been that if they can't find evidence to overturn a call within 2 minutes, tough. That should be more than enough time to look at the angles given by the replay camera(s) and isn't TOO long that flow is completely messed up.

Bahaha Minne-who?

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

With both teams playing the trap I wonder if Ferris will try to slow the play down making the neutral zone really murky. I can't believe Ferris keeps it close but anything can happen.

I will never forget--and I'm sure York doesn't, either--the day leading up to the 2007 final-game tilt versus Michigan State. It wasn't whether BC would beat the Spartans, it was only by how much. The Spartans hung around for 58 minutes in that game, got two goals in the last two minutes, and walked away with the trophy.

So, FSU is this year's 2007 Michigan State team. It doesn't matter whether the players remember; they were all in middle school, for goodness sakes. It only matters that York does.

I agree with up north hockey on Ferris. IMHO, The teams that have tried to match BC's style have failed because BC has so much depth of skill. In the periods I have seen live, at times they just moved the puck so well that it exposed any small weakness in the opposition. In fact it's hard to find a weakness to exploit, even if you could. The only thing I saw through the season is that sometimes they were not in the game mentally.

But with Ferris, being that they typically slow the game down in the neutral zone, it means to me that the defensive weaknesses will be a lot harder to exploit. Certainly Ferris has no where near the offensive potential, but they don't need to.I'm looking for BC to win but I'm looking for a good game.
One thing I also notice. There seemed to be a ton of stick work both by BC and by Union. Not only where they are so quick to impede shots, but low level slashing, banging and generally using the stick much more aggressively than I am used to seeing.

I disagree. BC wins a 5th tomorrow night easily, 7 - 2. Ferris gives it a valiant effort, but no one can beat this BC team.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

While BC is undeniably the heavy favorite, you only have to look back to the Air Force game to see how any team at this stage can keep a game close, as BC was only up by one with just around a minute left. As others have mentioned, the 07 loss to MSU wouldn't be much different than them losing to Ferris tomorrow. I expect a BC win, but alls it takes is a hot goaltender and a few bad bounces and it could be lights out.
