2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Congrats to BC. Your team is ********** good. I was hoping for a closer game, and to be honest, Minnesota played fairly well, but Milner was on his game, and Patty was not. Explains the score.

As for DL, really, your team is a joke. I can understand Wisconsin, BC, hell even UMD fans on here laughing at the Gophers for their embarrassing loss, but SCSU? LOL.
Great point! We allowed less goals and lost by a smaller margin. :p

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Huh..?

Not much of a trap played tonight, and when you transition as well as BC did, that's really better described as plain-old smothering D.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone could make straight-faced excuses for the way the game went... Even after you factor-in the disparity in goaltending, it was exactly the blow-out it appeared to be on the scoreboard.

I was telling the Badger fan beside me, Minnesota could have scored 2-3 goals in the 2nd with that flurry at times in the BC zone. Parker Milner absolutely was big in this game, Minnesota was outshooting BC badly but then BC scored that 2nd goal, then the next, etc. to put that dagger in their hearts. When the Gophers scored that goal to give their fans some hope BC answered back immediately with another goal. Parker Milner has been big in this BC run of late.

Seriously nobody will care if BC wins except for a few db's here and their team and alumni. College hockey needs a good story, a good example to inspire the masses. Not Boston College. You have Kreider, one marginal NHL prospect for the 1s place Rangers. Mark my words no disrespect to him or anything against his character but he'll never amount to anything in the NHL. Ferris State wins. I'll bet 2K on it straight up

As a Lowell fan, I can tell you I'm rooting for BC.

What's not to love about the way they play the game? Plus, Jerry York is class personified.

I reserve the right to booo these ******** into oblivion the 3 (or more) times a year the River Hawks have to play them. But if you don't appreciate how they play the game and the stand-up program York runs over there then why even bother watching college hockey? This is the kind of program other teams should aspire to be.

God bless Ferris State, those boys are in for a train wreck.

edit - I can't type bastard? What about Inglorious Basterds?

No they didn't. There was about a five minute delay for the idiotic review before they scored their 5th goal.

OK now, we're splitting hairs. I'm going by the game clock but OK you're technically right.

What was with that, anyway? I get that they wanted to check that it wasn't kicked or scored from the crease, but I don't get why it took so long to verify that it was a good goal.

Ouch, that was brutal. Now that some time had passed, just wanted to say nice job BC, tough team and good luck Saturday.

Way to stay classy in the third last night golden halos. Gopher fans can apologize all they want and say “that’s not gopher hockey” but they had the M on the front of their jersey did they not? Can one of you saints please explain the difference between Hansen and Condon’s actions last night and Kristo and Blood’s earlier this year? Remember how much you p!ssed and moaned after that? What was Wally Shaver’s reaction to their actions last night? I guess we should take a tip from your play book and start calling Lucia a Hack and your whole team a bunch of goons.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Wow, congrats to BC, they looked as good as advertised. Gopher D looked their youth last night for the first time in a while.

I would wish the Eagles luck for Saturday, but I don't think they'll need it. I'm sure Ferris will play a better defensive game than the Gophers did, but I don't see how Ferris can generate enough offense to threaten the Eagle D and goaltending - both are just too strong. Should be the Eagles 5th title on Saturday and well deserved after this season by York and company.

ETA: Can someone teach Thorne how to use a pronunciation guide? Did he butcher the other teams' names as badly as he did the Gophers'?

Ahhh I love this.

And your point is? Let's see, 25 college hockey programs attempt to stock their teams with "NHL" talent...one program chooses unselfish players that perfectly exemplify the team concept and are suited for the college level. That program has been to 5 National Championship games in 7 years. NHL stars != success at the college level... What's amazing is that more programs have not copied the BC template.

The NHL is littered with successful BC alums. And Kreider will be another. BC gets kids that ARE NHL talent that stay for at least 3 years. York is a genius.

Clearly it was a conspiracy to give BC time to coordinate a counterattack and resume the execution after action resumed.

(Honestly, I have no idea why it took more than 1-2 looks; the replay was pretty ****ing obvious; the puck deflected off the player's stick then skate and was clearly not kicked into the net).

Come on now. This is one of my favorite things about sports in 2012. I love watching a bunch of officials huddled around a video monitor as the announcers show the replay 50 times. Riveting. And we'll get more of it in the NFL next season with the new "review every single turnover" rule. Woo hoo!!!!

Correct, but whereas some programs make recruiting NHL players their PRIMARY objective (and even use that as a promotional/recruiting tool), that is not the PRIMARY emphasis for BC. Do they get some of those players? Yes, but why do those players choose BC over other programs? I'm not taking anything away from Jerry York - but I still feel as though his players are more focused on the team concept and contributing to wins for the school, while at some "other" programs, the players seem to be more, shall we say, "distracted" and not quite as focused on the team. Now you can say that's ALL York, but then how do you explain the almost unprecedented dominance of BC? You would be saying that EVERY OTHER coach is a level below York. To have ONE person excel that much beyond his peers doesn't seem to be painting an accurate picture. You still have to have the players to win. He can instill the philosophy, but the players have to be receptive to it. Maybe he just knows how to recruit better than anyone else??

Did the largest Gopher go after the smallest Eagle in the handshake line? I can't remember...

Any excuse you can use to rationalize why it's different. The Gophers gooned it up because they were getting smoked. That's what it boils down to.

With all due respect, that cannot be true.

That's NOT Minnesota hockey and therefore could not have happened.
