2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

It's a good thing BC beat Minnesota, cause the Gophers couldn't have handled Ferris State

I was going to say something snarky then I remembered watching April hockey was such a novelty for you, so never mind :)

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Hats Off to Ferris State! They basically outplayed BC. They just couldn't finish and BC could.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

No. We didn't outplay BC. We played very well. They played better.

Thank you for the kind words all the same.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Ferris State played BC a whole lot tougher than Minnesota did. That program has everything to be proud of. No shame in losing 2-1 (which effectively was the score for most of the game).

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

This was the equivalent of a heavyweight title fight where the champ caught the challenger with a big KO shot late in the 12th round.

It's a good thing your team won its national title against NMU in 2010 because otherwise you'd have nothing about which to be happy.

Convert on pp and it's a different game, congrats to FSU anyway a bounce or 2

Power plays have made me rip my hair out and consume massive amounts of bourbon for the better part of 20 years.

We had our shots. It just wasn't to be. *shrug*

Ferris is terrific in their own zone. I'm sure they'll show up and make it a game.

Still, BC pulls away late and wins 4-1, with an ENG.

Somebody gets the clairvoyance award!

The power play was definitely Ferris State's undoing tonight. One of my few criticisms of Red Berenson over the years has been that his teams are too deliberate on the power play and needlessly try to wait for the perfect shot. I saw the same thing in the Ferris PP tonight. BC pressures the point on the PP more aggressively than just about any team I've seen, pro or college, and overthinking wasn't going to do any good against that. Sooner or later a team that aggressive gets burned. Keep throwing stuff at 'em and wait for your break. Ferris should have tied it up during those 3 straight PPs in the 2nd period.

Outstanding goaltending and defense from both sides. It took a piece of brilliance for BC's third goal to settle that game. Perfect shot with two defenders in his face. Wow.

Ferris did the CCHA proud. As for BC, well, with 5 FFs in 7 years and 3 championships in 5, we all know what the best program in college hockey is right now.

No skin in this game, but anyone who missed Geudreau's goal, missed one of the most beautiful goals i have ever seen. 3-1 is more accurate.

Three national championships in five years but you've had your share of heartaches? Seriously? We're all aware that on any given night anything can happen and that York will have these kids ready to play tonight, but let's get real here. Without those "heartaches" BC would have had at least two, if not more, national titles. There's no heartache there.

I'm a bit older than you. BC in the 70s, 80s, 90s, etc won nothing, BU in the 90s beat up on hapless BC and won a record string of Beanpots. The older BC guys even more so. BC had won nothing since 49' while the younger BC generation since 1998 still went through many heartaches until 2001. 1998 (Michigan), 1999(maine), 2000(UND), 2003 (Cornell), 2004 (Maine), 2005 (UND), 2006 (Wisconsin), 2007 (MSU), 2011 (CC).

Into the 90s BC only averaged 1 Beanpot per decade. When I was an undergrad at BC in the 70s, we had Joey Mullen (NHL Hall of Famer) and lost to BU for NC in 1978. Snooks Kelly and Ceglarski won no NCs and very rarely won the Beanpot. BC lost to Wisconsin in the semis in the early 90s. There are other games but basicly BC was inept in post season play until York started to slowly change that recently.

I like and respect Scarlet but she just doesn't understand the history but understandable from her seat. I wish we had some Scarlets in here . It was great to meet you and share pregame talking BC hockey with Fivehole12.I look forward to seeing you at Conte next year. . Great day for Eagle Hockey

Any BC fan who's old enough to remember the 90's or before has experienced plenty of heartache. Just saying the name "Steve Cedorchuk" might be enough to get you banned from campus. It took York four seasons to finally get the program on the right track. His first three seasons he had a .427 winning percentage after Cedorchuk's stellar .392 performance. Almost all of BC's success has come with York at the helm. In the 50 seasons before 1998, BC had 18 appearances with a 15-29 record in the NCAA tournament. In the 15 seasons since, they've been in the tournament 13 times and have a 30-9 record.

This shows what a fantastic job York has done at Boston College. It also indicates the Eagles might be in trouble once he retires...

Any successor would find themselves in a tough situation - talk about a tough act to follow. But, Cavanaugh has been around forever under York and has the experience to continue York's methods. If, that is, our AD doesn't make a bonehead decision when the time comes.

Ferris all to often looked like they were making one to many passes on the power play. I thought they passed on shots and got a little too cute with a pass looking for the perfect shot instead of getting it on net.

I understand the history completely. I'm saying that in the last 12 years you guys have had way more success than every other school in the NCAAs, and that's with losing in 98 in OT, losing in 06 and 07. Had those losses not happened, you'd be looking at an unprecedented number of championships. As it stands now, three titles in five years an four in the last 11 ( is it 11? Math is hard on a Sunday morning at the airport) is over the top impressive, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. So the "oh, you don't understand the heartache we've had!" mentality. If there's one thing 57 other schools can beat BC on it's heartache with regards to the NCAAs.

That said, congratulations on winning the national championship! What an impressive run!

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

That was a tremendously entertaining game to watch, which was a treat because I didn't expect I'd want to sit through it from start to finish. Congrats to FSU for getting there and to BC for getting it done.

The successor will have to be an Eagle. Double Eagles preferred, but not required.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Disagree that the successor has to be an eagle. I consider cav an eagle anyway and a legit candidate to take over.
