2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

It is stupid and clueless to extrapolate one period of play onto a whole season; and further stupid to butt heads with people who watch every game. A team sitting on a lead in the third period of a tournament game does not equate with a team that "traps a lot" - which was also stupid and clueless simply because of how subjective it was.

If it makes you feel better to say BC traps because you can't otherwise explain how BC wiped the floor with UMD that is between you and your therapist. But don't come on a hockey board and spout that nonsense - we won't coddle you

Who is trying to "extrapolate on period" into a whole season? Someone made a reference to BC trapping, and then brought up Jacques Lemaire and the NJ Devils. To which I said that BC runs it's trap more like Pittsburgh does. To which you guys responded with a quote from Jerry York that BC doesn't trap.

They do trap, and have trapped in more than "one period" this season. So, instead of trying to spin this from "BC doesn't trap" to accusations that we're trying to label BC as a team that "traps a lot" (which no one said you were - I said you trap more than the Gophers, and you do), why don't you just admit you didn't know BC trapped from time-to-time (and probably didn't understand what the neutral zone trap was) and were wrong and we can move on. Or, just drop it.

Back in the day when Lemaire used the trap with New Jersey his clubs were some of the most highly scoring teams in the NHL.

Exactly. They were a lot of fun to watch too. Yet, I compare BC's trap to Pittsburgh's and it's like I kicked the guy's dog. I don't think anyone was insulting BC.

Can't win :)

I have come to the conclusion some people around here don't know what the trap looks like.
Define your trap. Define your neutral zone trap. Give us your definition of BC's trap.

Show me video where BC has 5 men in the neutral zone.
Show me video where BC uses one forechecker and 4 men in the neutral zone.
Show me video where BC has 2 forecheckers and 3 men in the neutral zone (3rd man high).
You can't, except perhaps when they are protecting a 2 or 3 goal lead late in the game. But then, if you don't want to watch that crap, tell your team to play well enough not to be in that position.

BC will forecheck your D-men relentlessly in their D zone. BC's D-men will sometimes pinch, and pinch hard. There will be stretches where it will look like BC is enjoying a 5 on 3 PP while your team has trouble clearing the zone. This will come at you in relentless waves throughout 60 minutes.

There's your trap. Minnesota will be trapped in their own zone relentlessly and be begging for mercy. :p

Wow, in one post you managed to say BC does and doesn't trap. Which is it?

Oh joy - another dead horse that just has to be beat. Let it go, msoh.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

It's so cute to see how loath some people are to admit that Boston College is everything right about hockey.

I agree but BC is not the greatest collage hockey program on the planet that right goes to Minnesota. It is not even an argument.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

MN.

The simple mention of MN is enough to make BC cower in fear. Don't worry, kids, soon it will be over. MN 5-3. Then you can go back to hating on Boston. It will be quick, you can only hope it will be painless (it won't be).

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

It really is a shame that the greatest program evar has absolutely no shot tomorrow night. The Gods must be crazy.

Good luck Union! Make the ECAC proud!
