2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Sounds like BC and the Gophs will be getting to know each other. I hope Minnesota doesn't trap BC in all these games. The Gophers do it all the time and their games are so boring! Yuck.

Agreed. We have to play them 4 times a year and they're always the dullest 4 games of the year.

Trap. Dump. Chase.

*repeat*

:p

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Everyone traps. Some do it all the time. (Wisconsin, Michigan State, Cornell) Some do it when it suits them. (BC, Denver) Some do it when they feel like losing in embarrassing fashion. (Minnesota)

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

It's impossible to dispute the fact that they trap. Rewatch the game against UMD. They were trapping the entire second half of the game.
Just for the record all teams trap from time to time, so do more than others.

Well, good luck tomorrow, Gophers. Should be a great game.

Agreed and thank you. I can't wait. I am trying to get my wife a date so she'll be out of the house and with the day off I am going to run my boys ( 4 & 6 ) ragged so I can put them to bed by 6:30....

So because BC trapped against UMD that makes mnsoh stupid and clueless... got it.

It is stupid and clueless to extrapolate one period of play onto a whole season; and further stupid to butt heads with people who watch every game. A team sitting on a lead in the third period of a tournament game does not equate with a team that "traps a lot" - which was also stupid and clueless simply because of how subjective it was.

If it makes you feel better to say BC traps because you can't otherwise explain how BC wiped the floor with UMD that is between you and your therapist. But don't come on a hockey board and spout that nonsense - we won't coddle you

Thank you for agreeing with us. BC traps. Nothing wrong with that but they do.

And Jerry York too.

I didn't know we had Herb Brooks Jr. and Herb Brooks III on the board. You guys must have been busy around 2008 when they played BC last... Busy watching the Wild and learning what the trap is no doubt.

Next on the list: "Those Grey Poupon uniforms distracted us!"

You sound like the bu fanboy who accused BC's penalty kill of trapping too.

Im not sure what your angle even is other than to appear stupid. Every team has the personel to trap. Its the great equalizer for bad teams. The only problem with the trap is when an untalented team does it the whole game. I'm not going to get into a slap fight over what percentage of time BC spends trapping

I think you will see pretty early and often that BC is a relentless forechecking team. But my hope is that Lucia is as clueless as you

I love it when guys feel the need to resort to name calling and personal attacks to win a debate. Re-read what I wrote. Not every team has the personnel to to have the transition game that BC does. Any team can trap, and most do from time to time, but BC has the talent to transition and capitalize on turnovers. So, they don't sacrifice a lot of offense when they do. And against good offensive teams (like last game against UMD) they trapped quite a bit when they had the lead. Not a lot of two man forechecking late in the second half of that game.

I love it when people talk like they understand what the trap is, then automatically equate it with boring hockey. Look at the Pittsburgh Penguins. They trap a lot. Would you call them a boring team?

Bad teams trapping because they don't have the weapons to capitalize on turnovers play boring hockey. Good teams that trap to neutralize the offense of an opponent or to protect a lead can be fun to watch because they transition well and can capitalize on mistakes.

And you don't need to be Herb Brooks Jr to understand that.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

I asked UMD's radio guy if BC was trapping late in their game. If you don't believe me, here's what he said...

RT @BruceCiskie: @MNState0fHockey I thought so, but at the same time, they were playing pretty tough defensively without trapping, too.

RT @BruceCiskie: @MNState0fHockey Everyone traps.

RT @BruceCiskie: @MNState0fHockey For the record, there are plenty of coaches who act like it's a swear word, then deny deny deny that their team does it. :D
