2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

I have been out of town all week but this thread has no chance to get locked at this rate.

Didn't we just beat Boston 7-3? Why do they get to advance too? Eastern bias!

So, are the Terriers really as good as people make them out to be? They must have a weakness. My dog is scared of thunderstorms. Any chance the piped in sound will scare them?

At least Minny fans try to sandbag.
It's the North Dakota fans that are arrogant as hell. ;) :D

Only other person I know of who refers to both schools as "Boston" is Barry Melrose. You're in great company!;)

That took almost an hour! :D

Are you saying there is more than 1 Boston team!? That sounds crazy. How do they coordinating splitting the ice time?

i was actually thinking he (not Melrose, the poster) was needling us by calling BC "Boston" :confused:because that's what people around the country call BU:eek: but, ok, i guess we are Boston too:cool: I'm not sure i've ever heard Melrose call us Boston though and i've watched all the games he has done in the NCAA's we've been in, except of course the ones i saw in person .......

No, there's only one. They wear maroon and gold and manage to make it look good, unlike some other teams out there.

If the Gophs win do we get the Beanpot?

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

It is tough to pick on BC. It is widely known that they are the Minnesota of the (L)east.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

At this level its going to be about which team stays focussed, ignores the limelight and wants the win. Any of these teams can win it all. I don't buy the BC/Minnesota victor will rule. Ferris and Union have played and beat too many "Powers" this year to be impressed. Since January 1,

UNION is scoring 3.95 goals/game and holding opponents to 1.66 goals/game (21 games)
B.C is scoring 3.54 goals/game and holding opponents to 1.67 goals/game (22 games)
Ferris is scoring 3.29 goals/game and holding opponenest to 2.24 goals/game (21 games)
Minnesota is scoring 3.05 goals/game and holding opponenst to 2.29 goals/game (21 games)

League play is a hard one to call. I think this year the leaguse are more evenly matched. In the Playoffs thus far:

ECAC 3-1
WCHA 4-3
Hockey East 3-3
CCHA 2-4

My guess would be that "This Year" the ECAC has gotten more competitive and the CCHA less so and HE and WCHA are just tough again. Who is going to take it? Which team wants it more. Which team has acid in the gut. Goaltenders and Defense and Depth are all great but which teams wants it so badly they can taste it. I don't know? None of the teams are playing like they want to go home anytime soon.

OK, I'm just going to say it.
BC will win the whole enchilada in dominant fashion. Maybe not by overwhelming scores, but the games will look like men playing against boys. Sorry, but that's the way it will be.
Second place ain't so bad. Who wants it more? :)

Tampa is a neutral site.

1) Doesn't matter, we're screwed if we play Boston College anywhere but at home. Even though the seasons basically over tomorrow night, I'll still watch the game. One consolation is at least Bjugs won't be cutting himself shaving afterwards.;)

OR

2) I know thaaat!! I was just temporarily lost in a Scoobyville daydream.

Well, I leave for Tampa early tomorrow morning, so I thought I would post my predictions for the weekend now (not sure how much time I'll have for internet prior to Thursday afternoon).

Union vs. Ferris State
I like Union in this one. The Dutchmen impressed me in both of their games in how they were able to dictate play for large chunks of the game. I think Ferris State had a good draw as DU was too fatigued or injured (ex. Zucker), and Cornell, while a solid team, was a good matchup for the Bulldogs. I think it is a close game, but ultimately I think Union prevails thanks to great goaltending and a strong enough cast of scorers. Union 3-2.

Minnesota vs. Boston College
I think this game is a classic, and I think both goalies stand on their heads. BC has been playing extremely well for a long period of time, while Minnesota can be frustratingly inconsistent. That being said, I think the Gophers play well in Tampa. It will come down to a battle of goalies, and while I think Kent Patterson and Minnesota have the edge there, I think BC does just enough to get to the title game. I also would not be surprised if this went to overtime. BC 3-2.

Title Game
Similar to the NCAA Basketball Tournament, I think the best team wins in Tampa. Boston College has too many weapons and is playing too well for Union to stop them. I like a low-scoring game, but BC musters enough offense to capture their FOURTH title since 2001, and their 3rd in 5 years. BC 3-1.

Hopefully everyone enjoys this weekend, and hopefully great hockey will be played.
