2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

3 goals is hardly a "snap" game against one's biggest rival. ;)
Not to speak for HBB_GH but I assume he was speaking of the "snap" game on Friday of the Final Five. Could be wrong though.

My predictions for the semi's.

Ferris 3, Union 2
Minnesota 0, Boston College 6
Sorry, I just don't see Union advancing.
Thank you. Your posts gave me a chuckle this morning, JF.:)

Preview from Gophersports

Weekend Overview: Minnesota joins Boston College, Union and Ferris State in the NCAA Frozen Four in Tampa, Fla. The Gophers are the lowest seed remaining in the tournament and face No. 1 seed and winner of 17 straight games Boston College in a national semifinal at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 5. On the other side of the bracket, Union and Ferris State will play the early game at 4:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.

The semifinal winners will play for the NCAA title at 7 p.m. ET on April 7. All four teams remaining, Minnesota (WCHA), Boston College (Hockey East), Union (ECAC) and Ferris State (CCHA), won their regular-season league titles.

In The Tournament: Minnesota is playing in its 33rd NCAA tournament and 20th Frozen Four. The Gophers, who beat Boston University (7-3) and North Dakota (5-2) to win the NCAA West Regional, are 52-33 all-time in the NCAA tournament. They are 19-16 in the Frozen Four. Minnesota has won five national championships. Don Lucia coached the Gophers to national titles in 2002 and 2003, while Herb Brooks led Minnesota to the NCAA title in 1974, 1976 and 1979.

Facing Boston College: Minnesota and Boston College have played 27 times overall and the Gophers lead the series 14-11-2. Minnesota is 8-1-0 at home against Boston College and 5-9-2 on the road. They are 1-1-0 in neutral-site games, both of which were in the NCAA tournament (1954 and 2008). Nine of the 27 meetings between the two schools have come in the NCAA tournament (eight of those games were in Massachusetts) and Boston College is 5-4 in those games. The last NCAA and overall meeting between the two schools was March 28, 2008. Minnesota lost that day 5-2 in the NCAA Northeast Regional in Worcester, Mass. Boston College went on to win the NCAA title.

Facing Ferris State: Minnesota leads the overall series 3-1-1 with Ferris State. The teams have met once in the NCAA tournament with the Gophers prevailing 7-4 in the 2003 NCAA West Regional championship at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota went on to win the NCAA championship that year.

Facing Union: The Gophers have never played Union in the NCAA tournament. Minnesota is 2-1-0 all-time against Union, but lost 3-2 in overtime in last year's Mariucci Classic.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

I see identical 5-3 games coming up, won by Union & BC respectively and with ENG's in each.

Minnesota is too good to get shut out but not good enough to win.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Has anyone on this thread ever seen a female Ferris State fan? If you have, its easy to see where they got the idea for their mascot! Congratulations Ferris your easy schedule in both the regular season and NCAA regional bought you a ticket to the frozen four... now everyone will see just how shallow you bench is!

Before you go holding that number 1 hand gesture in peoples faces just remember where you were during the CCHA Tournement.... on the couch. GO Union! Go Boston! Go Minnesota..... deflate all the hot air out of Ferris.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Don't be ridiculous. BC wins by at least 6 goals. We're just lucky to be here :)

Yeah, well Minnesota is 5-9-2 on the road against Boston College...so there you have it. We're toast.

EDIT:

Welcome to Scoobyville.

Leave the Bruins out of this.

On 2nd thought, maybe the Bruins should play in BC's place. Gophers would beat Bruins too but it would at least be closer and more enjoyable to watch than Minnesota plowing BC.

(yes I quoted myself)

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

If you base predictions solely on the offensive stats so far this year, it would work out something like this:

BC 5, MN 3
Union 2, FSU 1

BC 6, Union 1

However, I think the post-season dynamics of the individual teams will create a far different result:

MN 4, BC 3
Ferris 3, Union 1

Ferris 2, MN 1 (OT)

I think MN has more raw firepower than BC....they've just not been as consistent...MN will bring it this w/e.
I watched all the regionals and I think the more offensive teams will have trouble with Ferris' shut-down style. I also think Ferris has stepped it up quite a bit in the last few games. If Ferris can keep up the pace, they can win it.

Gophers couldn't beat the Boston Jr Bruins.

BC rolls, 11-1. Lone Gopher scored by BC on itself in a temporary lapse in concentration from sheer boredom.

My main concern with playing BC would be watching the dreaded trap for three long periods. I really hope BC doesn't go that route.
This isn't your NJ Devils trap. This is a high speed forechecking, create grade A scoring chances type trap. Don't worry, Minny will get their 30+ shots on goal... a good majority from the perimeter.

This is the first time I have ever seen someone suggest that BC's style of play is boring to watch. Or, are you implying that BC's style of play will be too much for the Goph's and you don't want to see them get their arse kicked? ;)

They run the same type of trap as Pittsburgh. If run correctly, with the right personal, it can be fun to watch. But it can also be dreadfully boring if it doesn't generate the turnovers/quick transitions it's designed to. BC's players are exciting to watch because of what they do on transition after creating the turnovers, the trap style they run at times is not exciting. There is a distinction.

I'll take the BC style any day over watching UAA and their patented 4 guys across the blueline trap, I'd rather be watching paint dry than watch that team.

We already know the Gophers are going to get their butts kicked. The game has already been conceded to BC.
