Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Another coaching ax has been swung.

Colorado State has sacked Steve Fairchild after 3 consecutive 3-9 seasons.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Rumors that Virginia Tech is going to the Sugar Bowl. Kansas State has to be pretty upset.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Okie State-Stanford leaking in the Fiesta.

Let me congratulate LSU for their 2012 National Championship.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Penn State will meet Houston in the TicketCity Bowl at the Cotton Bowl, noon on Jan. 2 on ESPNU.

"Penn State University's administration believes this opportunity is a fitting acknowledgement of the hard work, dedication and perseverance our student athletes have exhibited during this especially challenging season," said Penn State President Rodney Erickson. "As Penn State continues to move forward from recent events we are committed to help break the silence that surrounds child sexual abuse and lead to better protection of our children. We will use revenues received from our Big Ten Conference bowl payout to support our recently announced partnership with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, as well as other related initiatives.

"The Penn State Nittany Lion football team has accepted an invitation to play in the TicketCity Bowl on January 2 in Dallas, and we're very thankful for the TicketCity Bowl selection committee's recognition and support of this year's team and our outstanding institution," said David Joyner, Penn State acting athletic director. "I know that our fans and our team will show Penn State's true colors and character throughout our visit to Dallas and the Metroplex. We also congratulate and look forward to competing against the University of Houston in what should be a great and memorable game for all involved."

Ohio State and Florida in the Gator Bowl.
I love this matchup now, just because Iowa got an Insight Bowl birth.

If at the start of this season you were to tell me the Hawkeyes would be playing #1 Oklahoma in their bowl game, I would've laughed.

Kirk Herbstriet said it best. "Is this really what bowls are coming down to? Teams get to play in BCS bowls due to how many fans will fill hotels and bring commerce to the area? It's not about what happens on the field anymore?"

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

How exciting with the Kraft Bowl dealio be.....Illinois v. UCLA. THE perfect matchup of the bowl season.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

I love Montee Ball, but it's kind of b.s. that when they decided to include bowl stats in season stats a few years back they decided not to apply that retroactively. Barry Sanders would have 44 TDs instead of 39.
It's very strange to change the rules for records but this isn't the only sport we see it in. Other sports like the NFL and MLB have changed the length of their season. It kind of sucks for Sanders because I believe he had only 11 regular season games but Ball will get 14 when you throw in the mandatory 12th game, the conference championship, and then the Rose Bowl. One small solice is that Montee has a considerably higher TD per touch ratio than Barry did that year so it isn't necessarily a sheer volume thing.

That is the part that people need to realize... Not saying it's right that the bowls get to "Draft" their teams, but it is what it is... It's about the $$$ that people are willing to spend... Not who the better team is...

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

And it's only been that way for at least a decade....

This is no great revelation here.

I agree one hundred percent. It is what it is though, as never will there be a system that lets us see the best teams on the field.

Those that follow at something more than a casual level understand that... But right now my Facebook is lit up by more than a few people saying XXXXXX deserves to be in the YOUR AD HERE Bowl over YYYYYYY... It's an argument that you can only make so many times before giving up... There are many reasons to hate the BCS, but hating it because a 6-6 team that travels well got picked over a 1 or 2 loss small school isn't one of them... That's fully on the bowls themselves...

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Really excited for the Oklahoma State/Stanford game as well as the Oregon/Wisconsin game.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

Oregon is probably going to put 60 on Wisconsin. It's a matter of whether Wisconsin can stay in it.

The OK St-Stanford one, we're in agreement.

It wasn't like any of the other two teams, KState and Boise did not have a flawed resume. When you subjectively pick the bubble team, you are going to have set of fans who are not pleased with the outcome. Given how badly VATech was handled in the ACC champ game it seems like an even more egregious slight to the other two schools.

UW will need to really control the clock and limit the number of possessions that OU will get. MSU really exposed how slow UW is on the defensive edge, so if OU stretches the field laterally, they should be able to turn the corner on the D and get good yards on the ground to the outside and use the short quick passing game and wide receiver screens for big gains with plenty of YAC.

Even if the UW D manages to stop OU, the Ducks should win the field position battle given UW's struggles on special teams.

Re: 2011 College Football: Occupy GameDay!

My Top 5 Most Anticipated Bowls (excluding Iowa/Oklahoma for obvious reasons)

1. Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: Stanford vs. Oklahoma State
2. Rose Bowl presented by Vizio: Oregon vs. Wisconsin
3. AT&T Cotton Kansas State vs. Arkansas
4. Capital One Bowl: Nebraska vs. South Carolina
5. Allstate BCS National Championship Game: LSU vs. Alabama
