2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

He's probably ****ed that they didn't trade him and keep Halak so he'd have a chance in hell of turning around his career outside of a pressure cooker.

The reverse effect of that would've been Montreal ponying up $5 million a year for Halak while Price still stayed unsigned with someone else looking for chump change. Would've been more entertaining that way.

I root for chaos after all.

Re: Price - no, there's nobody else other than Niemi that matches what he brings to the table. The bigger point though that I'm trying to make is that each day this drags out, the shorter the leash gets between Price and the fans. This is a guy who was booed in his last start - a game in which he was named the third star!

Price already had a herculean task in front of him in replacing the enormously popular Halak. A protracted contract dispute - in this market - and anything that approaches a hold out, will make Montreal a very inhospitable place for Price.

Once again, Price is given a golden opportunity; one he probably didn't deserve...and he's not making the most of it.

Somewhat related - has anyone seen the abomination that is the Flames jersey that will be worn for the Heritage Classic? Yeesh:

Ronald McDonald called, and..well, yeah, you know the rest.

As bad as the jersey is (read: AWESOME) they're wearing cream-colored breezers to go with it.

Nightmare fuel, GO!

So are the Wild destined to be another, "Hope to make the playoffs but never assemble a legitimate title contender" Minnesota franchise?

[sigh]

I think it's more like Harry Potter called...

Taking this momentarily in a different direction....Montreal is expected to name a captain this year, after not having one last year. I have always suspected it would be Gionta, though I really wouldn't be surprised if Josh Gorges (a former captain for Kelowna in juniors) got the nod. He's emerged as a leader on and off ice, and is a go to guy for the press regardless of the situation. He doesn't speak French - though neither do Gionta or Markov (Markov doesn't speak at all).

Gionta, Markov or Cammalleri I'd say are the front-runners for the "C" there. Cammalleri had a bad rap in LA and Calgary, but it appears he's grown up immensely in Montreal and the fans there love him. Gorges will almost undoubtedly end up with an A I'd figure.

What about Hal Gill?

Gone after this year. I think they're looking for someone who will be around a while.

Of the three you mention, Gionta and Markov are most often mentioned. In the end I think it will be Gionta. I can't see them giving it to a guy that is a mute. And as much as I hated on him while at BC, you have to love how he plays the game. As for Cammy, very true...and he's taking French lessons.

What do Wild fans think about signing John Madden? 1 year, $1mm.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=329729

I was thinking he'd wait to see if Kovy signed and might come back to the Devils. I don't mean this in an offensive way, but I would think he fits best on a team that is a Cup contender (I don't see the Wild as realistic Cup contenders).

Separately, his kid Tyler is a great hockey player and same birth year as my oldest son............was hoping we'd get the chance to play against him.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Reports are coming out that Bloch ruled against the players association's grievance, therefore making Ilya a FA again. We'll see what happens.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

So, what do people make of the NHL still "investigating" other deals, as Bill Daly stated yesterday? Apparently the deals signed by Pronger, Hossa, Luongo, Savard, etc. are being looked at.

I'd like to know what the **** has taken them so long, as well as what they plan on doing if they believe these deals circumvented the cap, which they clearly do.

The NHL continues to come up with new ways of looking incompetent.
