2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Bruins have said they will not buy anyone out this offseason.

It seems pretty obvious they are going with Sturm on the LTIR and Ryder in the AHL to bury that 4 million cap hit.

The B's still have to sign Seguin...prob 3.75 million dollar cap hit based on what I was reading. Something has to give here when Sturm is ready to come back from injury.

The bonus won't count this year if they're up on the cap, but they'd get penalized next year like they were this year. You try to avoid that if possible, obviously, but if it's a choice between taking a small penalty and putting a capable NHL forward in Providence, you take the penalty.

Seguin's actual cap (pre bonus) hit this season will probably under $1 million.

Thanks, Ive been following this, but am nowhere near up to speed on the cap rules/bylaws. I could be GM of the Islanders at least :p

You're not nearly unqualified enough to be the GM of the Islanders. :p

Couldn't do any worse than the guy doing pre-and-post game commentary for the Bruins. ;)

I thought I read somewhere in this thread (or maybe elsewhere) that since the CBA is up for re-negotiation after this season, that teams can't go over the cap, even with bonuses.

I haven't heard that. Any link or anything?

Even if that were true, I could see them taking the cautious route, a la the NFL with the "no cap" thing they have going on. Somewhere down the line, the teams that overspend will be hurt by whatever agreement the league(s) reach if the teams overspend.

Nice. I totally had forgot about that! Very good call.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

A bunch of AHL/NHLers were playing pickup in the ice slot before my adult league game tonight. Only ones I actually recognized were Shattenkirk and (I think) Matt Moulson, but there were a bunch of practice jerseys out there (A Crunch jersey, Canadiens, Dallas... those were the ones I noticed anyway).

The skill level is just sick, and you could tell they were just playing around.

His cap hit will be whatever his salary is with the bonuses. It'll be worth anywhere around $3.25 or $3.75 million per year for three years.

But only if he earns it all, if I'm reading the (brutally confusing) NHL CBA correctly.

I was pretty surprised by Louis Leblanc's entry level deal with the Canadiens after he left Harvard. Very little in the way of performance bonuses - 300K a year only. His max cap hit will be 1.2M a year for his 3 years.
