2010 DII Football

Re: 2010 DII Football

Brice or the rest of the Cat Chat Crew would have to figure that one out. Either way, from what I can recall, NMU has had a few poor showings when they're away from the Dome.

I would have thought that those bums would have graduated by now, about the only other guy in the GLIAC thats been around longer would probably be Joe Horn from Ashland.

Short got a medical redshirt. I'm not sure but I'm assuming the same is true for Milbrath.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Too bad the game is in Houghton; I might've given some thought to going down to the D.

True, Wayne does have one of the nicer stadiums in the league, kinda hurts it on looks with having I-94 and the exit to the Lodge right there. Rumor has it that they're going to be starting up a band soon, so that should help improve the gameday experiance some.

I still remember being at the MTU at WSU game in 2007 and hearing the collective HUH??? going over the crowd whenever they mention the Michigan-Appy State score. That game ended early and my girfriend at the time and myself sat there and listened to the end of the game inside of the parking garage next to Hockeytown Cafe. That place was just shell shocked when we walked in.

If the Fooper Dome is like the REA of the league, and Lubbers is the Mooch, then Wayne's joint is the Magness/CSWA.

Meanwhile, Sherman Field is your average ice fishing shanty on Lake St. Clair...

...in March. :D

well, the last time I was up there was back in 2007, and I believe they did some improvements up there, like add turf and redo the stands as well, which was pretty needed. So I woudn't put it below Findlay's abortion of a stadium. No parking, light poles in front of the visitor side, virtually no room at all on the visitors side, and even though its field turf, they didn't bother to put in any drainage in under it as well as it still has this massive crown on the field thats like 3 feet high. And in the endzones you can see the field drop in the corners to meet the track. Big Ben should be emberrassed to have that as his HS field, as Findlay High uses it as well.

And even though they're not in the league anymore, I would still put Sherman 2007 in front of Mercyhursts field. Old astroturf and they didn't even bother to have people selling tickets there, or even count how many people was there.

Re: 2010 DII Football

There is a long-term plan for Sherman Field which includes expanding and spiffing up the permanent seating area on the home side, as well as building new locker rooms closer to the field. In fact, I believe it's the last phase of everything they've done so far (donor pavilion, turf, lights). Once the MacInnes gets its fancy new video scoreboard, they'll probably amp up the process of begging for more money to bring Sherman up to snuff. Especially now that it looks like our women's soccer team may draw more fans than I would've guessed. Athletic Marketing and Communications can take credit for that.

I thought the deal was that the Football Alumni had to pay for everything for football, or is it because Women's Soccer uses the field as well, MTU has to chip somewhat as well?

2. I actually really like Sherman Field. I can definitely see the need for improvements, or at least some kind of on site locker facility. I do like that there is a lot of grass and blanket seating, too.

Wait... the college and the high school share a stadium? Wow. Who technically owns it?
And, yes, Sherman Field now has turf, as well as lights. I'm not sure if they did anything to the seating, as I had never been there prior to fall '09.

The way I understand it, the donors endow the scholarships, pay for the coach's salaries, and for their special seating area/catered food & beer. I think it's still Tech's job to come up with the money necessary to maintain the facilities, since other MTU sports use it (soccer, track, club rugby), in addition to the annual Copper Bowl and at least one youth summer soccer league.

Yeah, as long as the weather is nice, I can't imagine anybody at Sherman field having a bad day, well, at least not starting out as a bad day. its pretty pictureques with the trees around, and with the turf, would have to be better than Northwoods field, which also surrounds their field as well, but their grass can kinda start looking like a cow pasture towards the end of the season. Northwood's campus looks like its a summer camp.

As far as I know, I believe the HS owns the Findlay field. Its right next to a middle school that used to be the High School I think. My best stab at it anyways.

Re: 2010 DII Football

NMU leads 31-10 with under 10 minutes left in the game.

Good to see the 'Cats winning at Northwood.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Clinging to a 14-7 lead in the 3rd quarter, Tech moves to 2-0 with a good performance against WSU, going on to win 24-7.

NMU defeats Northwood on the road, 31-17.

I'll be lazy and let the Monster handle all the non-Fooper teams. :p

Re: 2010 DII Football

UMD handled their shibby today, and GVSU had another thriller with a team that they should have been letting the 2's get some reps in. At this point in the season, I'm happy that were 3-0, but honestly, Duluth should be the number one team when the polls come out next weekend.

Re: 2010 DII Football

The local TV coverage of UMD that started this season is horrifying. I will definately be attending some games, if only so I don't have to watch that, I think I got motion sickness. Big win over Winona for St. Cloud State last night. Their loss to Augustana is starting to look better and better too.

It is best to avoid Duluth TV coverage of anything. I couldn't stand watching their newscasts.

Good to see UMD win again. Not that it matters but a #1 Ranking would be nice.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Results from last weekend....

Northern Michigan 31
Northwood 17
- Huge win away from the Dome for the Cats.

Ferris State 34
Ohio Dominican 28
- One more win, and its an official winning streak for the Bulldogs.

Stonehill 12
American International 14
- First win of the year for the Yellow Jackets.

Merrimack 29
Bryant (FCS) 46
-Tough loss for the Warriors of the Merrimack in Rhode Island.

Mercyhurst 28
C.W. Post 20
- Solid win for the Lakers of Erie.

Wayne State (Mich.) 7
Michigan Tech 24
- Short and Milbrath roll over Wayne State up in Copper Country. Makes the Miner Bowl at the end of the season look all the more interesting.

Assumption 45
New Haven 28
- Honestly, I thought this one would be a lot closer than this. Just goes to show you why they play the game.

Bentley 52
Saint Anselm 7
- I didn't have a lot of faith in the Hawks, and it looks like I was right. Bentley has had a better class of losses than them.

Minnesota State (24) 42
Minnesota-Crookston 3
- Looks like the Landcows worked on other parts of their game while going against a clearly outmatched opponent. It could have looked worse than this for Crookston.

Missouri S&T 10
Wisconsin-Stevens Point (D3) 29
- Steven's Point rolls up on the Miners.

Simon Fraser 25
Western Oregon 48
-The Clan's first NCAA game South of the Border. Their game with UBC can't get to them soon enough.

Northeastern State 14
North Dakota (FCS) 55
- North Dakota all over NES with an NES type score in the Hostile and abusive bowl.

Wayne State (Neb.) (25) 10
Minnesota-Duluth (2) 42
- UMD rolling over another NSIC opponent. And with a lackluster showing with GVSU over Indy, the Bulldogs slide into the number one spot in the D2Football Media Poll, Coaches poll still has em at 2, but not by much.

Northwest Missouri (7) 58
Nebraska-Omaha 23
- I wouldn't say that the wheels have totally fallen off here for UNO, but it looks like the lugnuts are really lose and the tires are vibrating a lot.

Bemidji State 30
Southwest Minnesota 14
- The Beavers spoil Smokefest and get back on the bus with a bunch of tasty BBQ.

Winona State (19) 26
St. Cloud 31
- Great win for the Huskies over Winona. The kind of gut check game they needed.
