2010 DII Football

Re: 2010 DII Football

Dumb move, but a gutsy call!

Correction...it was with about 40 seconds to play...not no time left. My source likes to over-hype things. But still...very gutsy call.

Missed 2 FG and botched a long snap as well in the game.

Re: 2010 DII Football

And an FYI, even though UMD had a bye this weekend, they should easily move up to number 2 in the national polls when they come out next week. Texas A&M-Kingsville knocked off Northwest Missouri State Thursday night 16-7. And if it wasn't for a thrilling come from behind by GVSU, they could have slid all the way into the number one spot as well.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Bentley 28
Carson-Newman 35
- Closer score than what I thought that would be. Carson-Newman actually had to come back in the 4th quarter to beat the Falcons. Bentley could be a lot better than a lot of people are thinking they are.

Northern Michigan 6
Minnesota State 7
A defensive battle here. Gotta love the gutsy call of going for two with less than a minute left to play. Dumb, but Gutsy. Taking a playoff team from last year to the mat like that looks good for the Wildcats.

Merrimack 26
Slippery Rock 45
- about what I would have expected, moving on.

Ferris State 17
Hillsdale (20) 35
- again, about what I expected to see here. However, I did hear from a lot of the Hillsdale faithful about how much more fight they saw from the Bulldogs this year than what they saw from them last year. Along with 3 games against the newest members of the GLIAC this year, Slightly seasoned Tiffin and the all new Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican, Bulldogs should easily win those game, even though they only get Tiffin at home.

Assumption 33
Millersville 28
- Bit of a Thriller her as Assumption came from behind to score the go ahead TD with just 16 seconds left on the clock. First Opening win for the Greyhounds since 1999.

Northwood 19
Wayne State (Mich.) 31
- The Warriors kick off the post-Joique Bell Era with a dominating performance against the Woodbone of Northwood.

C.W. Post 20
American International 11
- At halftime, the score in this one was 6-5 with Post leading. I thought it was a defensive slugfest being played out in the rain perhaps due to Hurricane Earl. Turns out they were high and dry most of the game, with AIC blocking an Extra Point Try and running it all the way for 2 the other way. Always thought that play should be worth more than just 2, as thats a hell of a lot of running there. those 2 points along with a fieldgoal for the Yellow Jackets are what lead to the halftime Baseball score.

Stonehill 20
Curry (D3) 14
- Curry rallies late, but the Skyhawks Defense hold them off for the win.

Saint Anselm 0
Kutztown 41
- I didn't think this one would be pretty for Saint Anselm, and looks like I was right here.

St. Cloud 23
Augustana 32
- Augustana scores 18 unanswered points in the last 8 minutes of the game to get past the Huskies.

Nebraska-Kearney (22) 32
Nebraska-Omaha (18) 29
- Turnovers where the story of the day here. UNO coughed it up 3 times to their instate rivals, while the Lopers didn't have any.

Western Oregon 38
Simon Fraser 0
- The Clan get a rough welcoming to the NCAA from the Wolves of Western Oregon.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Games for this weekend..... All times EST.

Thursday Sept 9th 8:00 pm

Ouachita Baptist @
Nebraska-Omaha
- I would expect the Red Mavs to beat the Purple Landcows, errr... Purple Tigers here.

Friday Sept 10th 7:00 pm

Pace @
Stonehill
- NE-10 battle here. Winner gets a leg up on staying out of the NE-10 cellar.

Saturday Sept 11th

Noon

Bentley @
Central Connecticut (FCS)
- Bentley with another tough non-conference game against D1-AA Central Conn. CC won their league last year and lost last week to New Hampshire 30-3.

1 pm
Saint Anselm @
Bryant (FCS)
- The Owls take on former NE-10 power Bryant.

Michigan Tech @
Lake Erie
- The Huskies take the long trip out of the UP to Ohio, but should open up their season with a Victory.

1:30 pm

Wayne State (Mich.) @
Tiffin
- Wayne was rather impressive against Northwood last weekend, I wouldn't expect them to be any different against Tiffin and their "Radar" D.

2:00 pm

Augustana @
Bemidji State
- The Beavers have their home opener, and start their drive for the playoffs here.

Findlay @
Northern Michigan
- The Wildcats open up the Dome after a tough loss loss at Mankato last week. Both GLIAC had tough losses last week, and neither team can afford to go 0-2 right now if they want to make the playoffs.

Minnesota State (24) @
Northern State
- The Landcows go on the road here, and look to capitalize on the close win they got last week to further their push to make a repeat appearance in the playoffs.

Minnesota-Duluth (2) @
Upper Iowa
- I still hate the dang Bulldogs for beating GVSU!!!

6:00 pm

Saginaw Valley (15) @
Ferris State
- Saginaw Valley snatched defeat from the Jaws of Victory last week with a very poorly timed fumble when the game was tied with less than 2 minutes left, and they were just 20 yards from pay dirt. Ferris got pasted by Hillsdale, yet showed a bit of fight in them. Things will get better for Ferris next week.

Mercyhurst @
Kutztown
- Mercyhurst has got to be loving life in the PSAC, where they're no longer the conference doormat.

American International 0
Stony Brook (FCS)
- Ummmm.... hell, I got nothing for this one.....

Southern Oregon (NAIA) @
Simon Fraser
- Non-conference game for the Clan, they just need to start doing the little things right up there and they'll be fine up there in BC.

7:00 pm

St. Cloud @
Concordia-St. Paul
- The Huskies go into the Cities for this conference matchup.

Ok, not really that bad of an outlook on NMU's part, but we don't need to be getting ahead of ourselves and thinking about Playoffs at this time... Just worry about the 1st GLIAC game of the year, and let the rest fall into place...

Exactly. At this point, and forgive me for the Debbie Downer viewpoint, but NMU should not be thinking playoffs. How about we just focus on stringing together 2 winning seasons, eh?

Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of upside to this team's possibilities... They just aren't proven yet...

The offense on paper should be able to open up this week... I'm not sure how much the wet weather was a factor last week, but NMU obviously had trouble moving the ball... I'm hoping that once they get on the fast field in the dome, they can open things up... We can finally see what the new offense is capable of...

Defensively, we can't let up... We were getting into the Mankato backfield last weekend... That's a great sign, especially since we are getting penetration with the front 4...

Let's kick off the home season with a bang and go from there, eh?

Not saying that NMU couldn't get into the playoffs if they start out 0-2, its just you wanna shot big on the year, you gotta start doing it now. Right now, smart money says that the NSIC will put at least 2 teams in the playoffs, the RMAC at least one, and the GLIAC another one as well. That pretty much means at most the GLIAC could get 3 teams in at the end of the year. Tough for it to happen, but totally not out of the realm of possibilities. And with NMU having a non conference game, they'll have a leg up on other contenders in the conference like Hillsdale, who played Ferris Non-conference.

Re: 2010 DII Football

I honestly think he would trade all four national titles just to have won that one quarterfinal :p

Re: 2010 DII Football

Are you serious? You won last year. You won your revenge. Get over it.

I'm a greedy bassturd, I wanted a Fifth Championship. And if our dang Coach had open up the playbook any, Grand Valley would have had it in 2008. :p :p

Also, a score from last night.....

Ouachita Baptist 38
Nebraska-Omaha 23

*** Mavericks???
