St. Cloud State wins 35-10 over Concordia St. Paul. I love the Gophers, but UMD might be the best college football team in Minnesota this year ;)

The best team in Minnesota this year just left to go back to Vermillion.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Sagnasty is over-rated once again. It happens every year.

seems to be the case. just didn't think I would see Ferris collect a win against them. Wonder if Saggy just got caught with a letdown game after that big emotional game with California last week. Defineally an odd weekend in the GLIAC to be sure.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Wow. That GV game sounds like it was a real defensive battle. ;)

I was about to tell you to not laugh, that you still gotta face the Chargers yet, but then looked at your schedule to see that NMU doesn't face Hillsdale this year. GVSU got lucky that Hillsdale went for a TD instead of just taking knees to win the game at the end.

GVSU lost their big pass rushing DL threat before the season started, and they haven't been able to find somebody else to really step and fill in the role of making opposing lines pick their poison on whom to double team. GVSU looks beatable if somebody can keep up with them in a shootout.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Thursday night
Ouachita Baptist 38
Nebraska-Omaha 23
- OBU got out to an early lead on UNO here, and the Red Mavs could never battle back.

Friday night
Pace 33
Stonehill 41
- Stonehill with a big win for them to stay out of the celler. Hell, they're even technically still in the playoff hunt yet. ;)

Saturday Games

Bentley 14
Central Connecticut (FCS) 45
- That couldn't have been fun....

Saint Anselm 21
Bryant (FCS) 44
- Ditto.....

Michigan Tech 42
Lake Erie 13
- Michigan Tech welcomes Lake Erie College to the GLIAC. Note to LEC, the beatings will continue until you get better, or opt to join the GLVC. ;)

Wayne State (Mich.) 63
Tiffin 14
- Thank Kessel that Joique Bell has graduated. The Warriors would have hanged a hundred on the Dragons if he was still there. Second most points ever scored by Wayne state, and they set a school record of 42 in a quarter as well.

Augustana 10
Bemidji State 0
- For the first time since Nov. 8, 1997, the Bemidji State football squad failed to put points on the scoreboard.

Findlay 10
Northern Michigan 49
- The Wildcats open up the Dome this year with a win.

Minnesota State (24) 21
Northern State 14
- Both Mankato's and NMU's playoff hopes improved this weekend.

Minnesota-Duluth (2) 62
Upper Iowa 13
- Issac Odim got on track and showed Upper Iowa why he's the favorite to win the Harlin Hill trophy this year.

Saginaw Valley (15) 17
Ferris State 21
- A shocker here. This snaps an eleven game losing skid for the Bulldogs.

Mercyhurst 14
Kutztown 35
- The Other Lakers stopped the Bears on the ground, but Kutztown took to the air to beat Mercyhurst.

Southern Oregon (NAIA) 31
Simon Fraser 18
- The Clan is going to take their lumps this year, but they're young.

American International 14
Stony Brook (FCS) 31
- respectable loss, AIC didn't let the game get totally away from them.

St. Cloud 35
Concordia-St. Paul 10
- A solid performance from the Huskies here, just what that program needs.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Nevermind Ferris, that was the sound of Saggy's season hitting the fan. :p

Well, right now Saggy does have a good Noncon loss to California, who's been the Northeast region's winner the past 3 years. Not really anybody else is as much of a lock to make the playoffs as they are in that region. If Saggy can run the tables for the rest of the season, starting out 0-2 won't keep em out of the playoffs. But yeah, they're already behind the eightball right now, with quite a few tough games left on the docket. Simply put, they're already behind Tech and Northern right now.

Interim Title of The Man for 98

Nebraska-Omaha lost it to Northwest Missouri 28-14 on 11-21-98
NWMSU was the current holder of The Man title, so that game unified the title.

Texas A&M-Kingsville now currently holds the title of "The Man" now. I'm pretty sure I had all of the dates from 1988 to 1990 filled out, but I can't currently find that research I had from them and this was the most up to date copy of the list I had. I used this website here.... http://michigan-football.com/ncaa/ncaa_ii.htm and I pretty much used that site from there on to determine "The Man". It does get harder to figure out when teams moved up back then, but usually poking thru their older media guides will give you the dates you need, and you also might fight the info to confirm what division a school was when it played somebody who my have been a holder of the title belt then. If anybody can fill in those missing dates or track it back from an earlier champion, it would be a big help as well. In theory here, all NC winners were the Man, even if it was just an interim title.

One day I will get it back to the Northern Michigan championship, its just a real pain in the butt figuring out who was D2 at the time and who wasn't. GVSU was the first team to beat NMU after the championship, but GVSU was actually NAIA at the time.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Bit of an odd weekend here, as its all strictly Saturday games. No Thursday or Friday night games for any of the hockey schools. Usually the NE-10 plays a few Friday nights over the course of the season. Guess the league schedule has everybody out of Boston this weekend for them. ;)

All Times EST

Noon

Northern Michigan @
Northwood
- If Northern is going to contend in the GLIAC this year, they have to win games like this one south of the Bridge.

Ferris State @
Ohio Dominican
- Even though I might despise Ferris as a Grand Valley fan, I'm still willing to see them beat a team from Columbus, Ohio. No let downs from the emotional win against Saginaw Valley Bulldogs.

1 pm

Stonehill @
American International
- Ummm.... Something something Something Home field.

Merrimack @
Bryant (FCS)
- The Warriors of the Merrimack invade Rhode Island here. Expect them to get treated hostile and abusively.

Mercyhurst @
C.W. Post
- The Lakers of Erie make a long trip here across PA to Long Island.

Wayne State (Mich.) 0
Michigan Tech
- Both squads here put their undefeated seasons on the line in this matchup.

Assumption @
New Haven
- Good matchup here, 2 very evenly matched squads here.

Bentley @
Saint Anselm
- even on the road, I like the Falcons in this one. Both squads are winless right now, but Bentley has given a normally tough Carson-Newman squad all they could handle. St. Anselm?? giving up 85 points in 2 games doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

2 pm

Minnesota State (24) @
Minnesota-Crookston
- The Land Cows look to improve on their rankings this weekend by beating Crookston silly.

Missouri S&T 0
Wisconsin-Stevens Point (D3)
- Misery Science and Technology doesn't have hockey, but Stevens Point does have D3 hockey, so I thought I would throw this one out here. That, and that I still think that when they renamed Missouri-Rolla, they should have gone with Missouri Tech instead. S&T just doesn't rolla offa the tongue like Tech does.

4 pm

Simon Fraser @
Western Oregon
- The Clan takes their first trip south of the border. Remember guys, when you go South of the Border, don't drink the water. ;)

5 pm

Northeastern State @
North Dakota (FCS)
- Well, I really had to include the Wisconsin-SP game just to throw this one in. One could call this one the Hostile and Abusive Bowl, as both programs were labeled by the NCAA as having names that were Hostile and Abusive.

7 pm

Wayne State (Neb.) (25) @
Minnesota-Duluth (2)
- There has been some debate on whether GVSU or UMD should be the number one team. Duluth has looked dominate in both of its games, while GVSU has shown some chinks in its armor with games that haven't been decided until late in the game, and pretty much needing a gift from Hillsdale last week to steal the win from the Chargers in the last 2 minutes. The Bulldogs look to continue the argument for the number one spot.

Northwest Missouri (7) 0
Nebraska-Omaha
- If the Mavericks look bad in this game, expect the wheels to fall off in Omaha this season.

Bemidji State @
Southwest Minnesota
- Beaver fans that travel to Marshall this weekend are in for a real treat. Along with the game, SW Minnesota is holding a KC BBQ sanctioned event that day as well. Should be plenty of good eats there.

Winona State (19) 0
St. Cloud
- St. Cloud could use a win here, but I'm not sure I see it in the tea leafs here for the Huskies.

NMU/Northwood: I heard during the broadcast the other day that either NMU has never won at Northwood, or it has been quite a long time. Either way, here's hoping a losing streak is broken! Also, if NMU plays anything like they did last week, the heartbreaker from '09 will be avenged.

Wayne State (MI)/Michigan Tech: Having both Steve Short and Phil Milbrath healthy again is HUGE for the Huskies. This should be one heck of a game to watch.

Brice or the rest of the Cat Chat Crew would have to figure that one out. Either way, from what I can recall, NMU has had a few poor showings when they're away from the Dome.

I would have thought that those bums would have graduated by now, about the only other guy in the GLIAC thats been around longer would probably be Joe Horn from Ashland.
