Re: 2010 DII Football
This weeks upcoming games....
All times EST.
Thursday, Sept. 2
7pm
Bentley at
Carson-Newman
- The defending Southeast Regional winners lost Saturday to a pretty good Winona State squad in a bit of a shootout. The Eagles don't lose often at home. I would expect them to be mad about that, and looking to take it out on somebody. Only thing Bentley has going for them right now is that CN has the short week to get ready for the Falcons, and that Bentley has had all summer to figure out a way to stop CN's Veer Offense.
Northern Michigan at
Minnesota State Mankato
- One of the few GLIAC-NSIC games going on this year, so this game could way heavily when it comes to post-season selection time. A lot of people in the region are going to be keeping an eye on this, and routing for their conference mates.
Merrimack at
Slippery Rock
- The Warriors of the Merrimack go to PA to take on The Rock. The Rock hasn't been all that great lately, but I would wager that they're better than MC. Of course, I'm just pulling this out of my butt here, so don't bet the house either.
Friday, Sept. 3
7pm
Ferris State at
Hillsdale
- Ferris looks to start to getting back to respectably with a Non-conference match-up with GLIAC running mate Hillsdale. Given that Hillsdale was a Playoff team that bested Mankato in Minnesota in the first round last year, I would recommend that Ferris would do itself and the league a favor by bringing in some other non-conference squad in. Somebody from the WVIAC, NE-10, CIAA, or even the slowly forming GLVC would be a better game to get things going on the right foot for the Bulldogs.
Saturday, Sept. 4
Noon
Assumption at
Millersville
-Millersville is picked to be one of the worst teams in the PSAC this year, while Assumption should be one of the better NE-10 squads. This one should go the Greyhounds way.
Northwood at
Wayne State (Mich.)
- Another non-conference match-up between GLIAC squads. If you haven't already figured it out already, I really hate that!
1pm
C.W. Post at
American International
Saint Anselm at
Kutztown
- a pair of games that wouldn't hold out much hope for the NE-10 squads. The PSAC gives out scholarships, while the NE-10 doesn't.
Stonehill at
Curry (D3)
- an intra divisional game. Go Stonehill!!
2pm
St. Cloud at
Augustana
- Given the rumblings about the state of SCSU's athletic department and possible cuts that it could make in the future, I expect the Huskies here to play like men possessed, and start in on the best thing possible to save their football program there, WIN.
7pm
Nebraska-Kearney (10) at
Nebraska-Omaha (20)
- Easily one of the best match-ups of the weekend. Two in state ranked squads going at it. Nebraska-Kearney already has a game under their belts, an overtime loss to another in state rival Wayne State. Should be an excellent match-up.
Western Oregon at
Simon Fraser
- while not a hockey playing school, given the nature of the possible expansion of the NCAA into the Great White North, I'm planning to cover them a bit as well this year. A lot of eyes are going to be on Simon Fraser this year, seeing how the Clan adjusts to the American game, and how the rest of the GNAC handles international travel as well. Given the GNAC's round robin scheduling all four of the American Squads in the GNAC along with NAIA Southern Oregon will go to Burnaby, BC. It should be an interesting year for them in the Pacific Northwest.
