2010 DII Football

Re: 2010 DII Football

Don't tell Dirty that. Grand Valley is the only GLIAC football team that matters, and the rest of us all suck. :p

Because it's true! If football involved water, Grand Valley State would be Michael Phelps and the rest of the GLIAC would be wearing water-wings and trying to drink the cholorine.

Bah, most of the time Dirty ever sat and watched a GLIAC team, that GLIAC team was wiping the mud out of their cleats with UND. :p :p ;)

The rest of the league isn't Water Wings bad. Tiffin, Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican maybe perhaps, but what conference out there that doesn't have a doormat?

Re: 2010 DII Football

don't post here often, but my alma mater, assumption college (ne-10) which is in a weak conference in comparison is now 4-0, knocking of 1-AA fordham this weekend 30-24. assumption was terrible when i was in school, but seem to have gotten better in recent years... still nowhere near the quality of a GVSU, etc., but being competitive w/i the conference is a welcome change... In addition to their win over fordham, they have wins over wagner, millersville (PA) and new haven...

side note: notre dame coach brian kelly played his college ball at assumption of all places...

Re: 2010 DII Football

Yeah, I did see that score as well, just haven't had the chance to do my little recap here yet. Guess Fordham should have called up the Seven Blocks of Granite.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Scores from last weekend....

Thursday

American International 7
Southern Connecticut 28
- A slow start cost the Yellowjackets here. SCSU had 21 on the board before AIC scored in the fourth.

Friday

New Haven 28
Bentley 23
-New Haven exploded in the 4th quarter for 21 points to get the win in Waltham.

Merrimack 42
Stonehill 39
- The Warriors hang on and hold off a comeback attempt to improve to 8-0 lifetime over Stonehill.

Saturday

Ohio Dominican 7
Wayne State (Mich.) 17
- A strong ground game was the difference for the Warriors of Wayne. Would have thought they would have beaten ODU by more, but a win is a win here. The Simple Math here in D2 says if you have four losses or more, you're not going to make the playoffs.

Assumption 30
Fordham (FCS) 24
- Guess Fordham could have used the Seven Blocks of Granite. Assumption has 4 wins, and while only 2 of those wins will count towards the D2 playoffs, they'll still play with the confidence of a 4 win team.

Lock Haven 0
Mercyhurst 41
- Wasn't that long ago when Mercyhurst was usually on the losing end of games like this in the GLIAC. Its amazing how much a change in scenery can do for a team.

Pace 35
Saint Anselm 45
- Soph QB Micheal Pierce sets a school record for the Hawks in the win, to give St. Anselm the win.

Michigan Tech 24
Indianapolis 10
- The Huskies D steps it up and earns Tech a good solid win on the road in the Southernmost outpost of the North Division of the GLIAC.

Ashland 19
Northern Michigan 23
- NMU gets the win in front of the Homecoming Crowd and the 1975 NMU football team that won the Division 2 championship, a 35 year reunion. The Old Wildcats liked what they saw against the Eagles, but would like the guys to be a little more Smash Mouth, like how they were.

Central Washington (11) 44
Simon Fraser 30
- SFU's moral victory here?? they've kept increasing their scoring output all year. If they can just keep it up, things should start looking better for the young Clan.

Mary 13
St. Cloud 30
- Youth seems to be working for SCSU. Freshman Damon Treat and redshirt freshman Phillip Klaphake lead the way for the Huskies offense.

Tiffin 28
Ferris State 52
- Its official!!! Ferris State is now on a winning streak.

Concordia-St. Paul 28
Minnesota State (17) 26
- Special teams here costs Mankato the win and being in the D2Football.com's top 25 poll. A blocked PAT and a missed FG at the end from 40 yards out.

Bemidji State 21
Minnesota-Duluth (1) 44
- UMD goes out and violates the Beavers to prove to the pollsters that they do deserve that number one ranking that they got last week.

Missouri Southern 10
Nebraska-Omaha 42
- UNO wakes up and finally gets a win here. Probably too late now to get themselves a playoff spot, but they can still be spoilers for others playoff hopes.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Assumption 30
Fordham (FCS) 24

- Guess Fordham could have used the Seven Blocks of Granite. Assumption has 4 wins, and while only 2 of those wins will count towards the D2 playoffs, they'll still play with the confidence of a 4 win team.

too bad those two wins don't count for anything. two victories over FCS teams look very good on the resume (albeit against weaker fcs teams)

for the uninformed (read: me), how if at all do they treat/view those games?

For the Regional Rankings, as far as the Committee is concerned, those games pretty much never happened. Come Playoff selection time and something is Dang close, like needing a few of the different tiebreakers, then maybe they'll take a look at them. But, if Assumption keeps winning out, they should easily be in the top 6 in Region 1, and even if they're not, as long as they're top 8, they'll get the Earned Access Bid, and knock out the lowest seed from a conference that already has a team in the playoffs.

Earn Access used to kick in when the conference winner was at least 10th in the region, but Tuskegee just had to keep screwing things up in Region 2, but that's a whole other rant there.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Games this weekend.

Friday at 7 pm

Assumption @
Southern Connecticut
- So Conn leads the series 9-0. This game is pretty much an early playoff game, as the winner here gets a leg up in the NE-10 race. SCSU is a bit stouter on the Lines, and Assumption is going to have to overcome that to get needed win here.

Saturday

Noon

Mercyhurst @
Gannon
- The Battle of Erie. Bragging rights are on the line, along with the chance for the winner to keep pace in the playoff hunt.

Northern Michigan @
Wayne State (Mich.)
- Wayne State's Homecoming this weekend, and the prize for the winner of this game?? a 4-1 record. Wayne misses GVSU this year, so GO Cats!!;)

1 pm

Bentley @
American International
- Two 1-3 teams going at it. Simple Math of four losses pretty much knocks the loser from having any shot at the playoffs.

Ferris State @
Lake Erie
- Ferris is on a winning streak, but can't sleepwalk on the Storm. The Storm gave Hillsdale all they wanted and then some and all but shocked the GLIAC. Bulldogs need to be all business and keep their eyes on the prize.

Saint Anselm @
Merrimack
- The Scoreboard operator better make sure all of the lights are working on the scoreboard before the game starts, both teams have high powered offenses with anemic defenses. Winner of this shootout just might be who scores last.

Ohio Dominican @
Michigan Tech
- Hard to believe it, but MTU is currently 4th in D2 in Scoring Defense. Odds are that will improve as the Huskies celebrate homecoming this weekend. And there had better be some Shenanigans going on this weekend as well. ;)

New Haven @
Stonehill
- For a revived program, New Haven has been looking pretty dang good. UNH dropped football after the 2003 season, but got lucky that somebody managed to put all of the equipment into storage instead of getting it sold off. They brought the program back last year and could challenge for the league title this year.

2 pm

Upper Iowa @
Bemidji State
- I would expect the Beavers to slap the Peacocks around after the pounding they got from UMD last weekend. *giggle* UIU hasn't looked that impressive in any of its four losses this year.

Minnesota-Duluth (1) @
MSU Moorhead
- Moorhead might have a chance here, if they could play with 12 guys on the field and UMD only had 3 downs to move the ball 10 yards.

Emporia State @
Nebraska-Omaha
- UNO finally woke up last week, which didn't take much because the Mavs where giving up 500 yards a game in its first 3 games. Lets see if they keep things looking up for them this year against the 4-1 Hornets.

3:30 pm

St. Cloud @
Northern State
- St. Cloud has been on a bit of a tear lately, with a 3 game winning streak, while Northern State has yet to get a win on the board yet. I would expect both trends to continue this weekend.

6 pm

Dixie State @
Simon Fraser
- Somebody is getting a win here. Both squads have yet to put up a W yet. I'm not much of a betting man here, but I think the Clan is a little better offensively than what Dixie is. Plus with it being North of the Border, the Rebel scum of Dixie will be yelling about how this game is a Trap! ;)

7 pm

Minnesota State @
Winona State
- Both squads need this game. Winner will be 4-1 with UMD looming on the schedule.

Not bloody likely. The Homecoming <strike>Gestapo</strike> Committee has declared that any group found committing SENANICANS shall be assessed a MAX foul. :p

If you want to drive a hobo car...excuse me, PARADE FLOAT, you have to first blow .00 at the start of the parade, then hold the breathalyzer tube in your mouth for the entire parade. Removing the tube from your mouth at any time is a double foul and your student org is docked points. Being a ****** and using it as a whistle is also a double foul.

They'd never have this problem in Marquette. Just sayin'.

Today's youth needs to grow a pair and keep up with some of the perfectly fine traditions.
That, or have a great mask and associates willing to aid you in hiding ones identity.

Re: 2010 DII Football

ODU's probably lucky that they don't have to show up later in the season. The long roundtrip bus ride should be enough torture for them. :D

You mean more than what the MTU Pep band could do while warming to play the Ditty for they play Nissipping later on that night? Going thru a hotel playing that at about 3 am would give the Huskies a good advantage. ;)

big plays killed assumption tonight... lost 23-17 despite having 39 minutes of possession. Assumption really gave this one away. AC turned it over inside SCSU's 5 yard line. Meanwhile, SCSU had 4 plays that totaled 226 yards of their total offense of 359 yards. SCSU scored on a run of 75 yards, had a pass play of 44 yards set up their second td, scored their third td on a pass of 58 yards, had a 49 yard rush set up a field goal.

That's not the way I saw it happening. With So Conn's bigger line, I would have thought they would have dominated time of possession instead. Guess that just goes to show why you play the games.

what a whiney little ***** that scowl guy is huh? jesus... i guess as an alum., i should be looking to start a fund to hire an attorney ;)

Can't say that I've really locked horns with him over there on D2F, but yeah, I think he beat that rich kids thing to death there.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Tech puts on a Homecoming show and rolls over ODU, 45-6. Now, two tough road games at Saggy and Hillsdale will prove just what this team is worth. Saggy is down, but we don't always play well there, and they played a potent Hillsdale squad about as well as they could in a 35-21 loss this afternoon.

Wayne uses home field advantage to hand NMU their first GLIAC loss, 28-16.

Grand Valley looked like Grand Valley against Tiffin, in a 71-10 win. :p

Re: 2010 DII Football

As expected, UMD waxes Moorhead 56-7. St. Cloud looking comfortable, leading Northern State in the third quarter 42-0.
