Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Hopefully the crowd in Maine got the team used to playing in front of hostile fans. This weekend's RIT game is homecoming/family weekend and will be played at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. I'm not sure if they're going to sell out, but the rink holds 11,000 for hockey and RIT has a good following.

A good showing against Niagra is the first challenge, though. A solid performance Friday would surely start the weekend off right.

Good Morning gUgB!

Niagra is struggling from what I heard. I would like to go away and come back midseason when they have their chit together. RIght now every game we watch will be a crap-shoot.

Les,

I hope you were referring to the dice game and not something else. Get it...crap-shoot... ;) :p Ah, yes!

I'm sure the one that know me well are doing this right now . The pun reference is right up my alley. :D

There really should be a three day ban for such a terrible pun! :D

Hopefully, that won't be the only laugh of the week.

Back on topic, I have to report on a thing I found today on the HE Web Site. It shows our UMA game in Amherst on Saturday, 04 Dec now listed as a matinee, with a 1:30 PM faceoff .

Coincidentally, I happened to notice that the nationally televised UMA/BC bouncy-ball game is on the same day at the Garden with a 6:30 PM tip. My SWAG is a ploy to allow Amherst fans to go to the hockey game and still have time to make the 90 min trip to the Garden after the game.

Can anyone confirm?

The UML site is also showing the 1:30 pm start. That may explain the Thursday night home game against UNH on 12/2/10.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Just to change the topic for a second, the UML Field Hockey Team is at it again. With their record tying 10-0 win last night (most goals in a game), the #2 River Hawks are 9-0 during their 20 game schedule. Even more impressive, they're scored 46 goals in their 9 games, and given up 2. Yes ... 46-2. They've only been scored upon in 2 games this season, and only once have they been held to less than 4 goals (a 1-0 win their second game of the season). Good luck to them team, keep it up!
The field hockey team is now 11-0, with a 60-2 goal differential.

Absolutely psyched about the 1:30PM game! With seven hour time difference over here, it's an 8:30PM start. One game that won't require a 2:00AM alarm to listen live.

Just finished reading today's construction blog. Looks like they're putting in the finishing touches at the Tsongas. They've started final coats of paint, taking down scaffolding, and adding furniture. The scoreboard is fully functional. It all looks pretty cool and should add a lot to the game experience. The renovations plus a good crowd will hopefully inspire the team when they get back to Lowell after the NY trip this weekend.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

For starters, at least we aren't playing the #7 team in the country in a place that this team has less wins in Maine over the past ten years than the amount of fingers on two hands

The games pose interesting questions in matchups, especially in the goaltending department. Does Carr or Boulanger get the start? Will we see either Heffron or Massie dressed? If one gets the start at Niagara, does they see action on Saturday. A host of unknowns.

Conventional wisdom says the start should go to Carr and give him another shot. He needs to get right back in after he and his "defense" got embarassed in Orono last Friday.

Looking for a much more consistent effort from the upperclassmen.

Niagara is the most important game of the weekend. They can't go down 0-2 heading into RIT for a host of reasons.

I'm heading out for the weekend, who else in on the list.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Last week's performance (and subsequent USCHO forum rookie of the weak nomination) notwithstanding, Doug Carr is listed as #10 on INCH's top ten incoming goaltenders list. I'm not sure how many of those goalies are playing as much during their freshman year, though. If he gets a start this weekend, let's hope that he plays like a top recruit.

absolutely killing their GPG average. Unacceptable (and how are they ranked 3rd?)

the other two teams are also undefeated... and they don't play each other until the end of the regular season.

----

as for msoc... when a team falls apart that fast, hard not to think the coach is the problem... so I don't see that necessarily being "worse".

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

If this is right, there are only 25 teams in NCAA Field Hockey (DII). As of the last poll, 5 of the top 6 teams in the country (aka all but UML) are from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. As a matter of fact, there's only 2 NE-10 teams in the top 10.
