Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

I've got family just outside of Rochester so I'm thinking about heading out for the game tomorrow. Looking forward to having a few Yuenglings! Not really looking forward to driving solo so it depends on my cousin getting out of work early enough.

If you plan to go to the RIT game, you better make sure you have a ticket in advance. There are less than 800 left at the BCA.

I get to have Yuenglings EVERY day... so there :p

Speaking as someone who actually LIKES beer ... Yeungling sucks.

2-2 tie tonight, not a bad result. Good to see Carr get a start again just to get himself straightened up. I'm assuming Boulanger will have to deal with the 16k in attendance tomorrow?

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Good game to listen to last night. Some vast improvements over last weekend's debacle.

Although the first goal sounded like a little bit of a softie, Carr saved 34 of 36 (about .944) and looked very confident at times. Still leaving some juicy rebounds, but was able to control a lot more of them. Also nice to see him pick up an assist on the 1st goal. Having a goalie who can play the puck well can be a huge asset.

Lowell had a ton of shots blocked/deflected/off target and still managed 41 shots on net.

The team did an excellent job staying out of the box (only three penalties) which is good because the PK continues to need a lot of work (Niagra went 2/3 on the PP).

Overall, a much more solid game. Two good periods (1st and 3rd.....2nd was not great) and a great OT (Lowell outshot Niagra 8-0 in the extra frame) will hopefully give the team some confidence for tonight's game. Not sure who Blaise will start in net, but it will be a tough game.

Agree with all- when do you sleep??

We have a pretty unusual work schedule over here so we try and find times throughout the week to kick back. Also, we typically have Sundays off, so if all else fails, that's pass out/homework day. Normally can recover enough to catch the Pats on Sunday. Love when they play at 1pm. Will be interesting to see how much they use Branch this weekend.

Hopefully we can listen to a Lowell win tonight. RIT is better than Niagra and the 11K fans in the building will be distracting but I still think they can pull it off.

Its better than buying Budwiser. You can buy it in quantity and not feel like a college kid for doing it.

Is UML/RIT being held at the Blue Cross Arena? I'm hoping I'll catch the video for this game via the B2Network agreement with the AHA... but if its not a proper home game, who knows if we'll get a stream.

Yes it's at the Blue Cross Arena.

When you get back here and have a chance to make a game, please let me know. I'd be honored to buy you a beer.

Pats game should be fun tomorrow, and will be a telling statement on if this team is a contender this year, or just another good team. 24 hours from now, I'll be 2 hours into the tailgate down at Foxboro. :)

Appreciate it Monty. Enjoy the Pats game tomorrow! Baltimore is a good team with a stifling defense so it will be interesting to see how Brady and company will work without Moss as a double team worthy deep threat. Will also be interesting to see if the defense continues to improve.

The only good part about being over here for a year is that you get two weeks off in the middle to go back to the States. My two weeks happen to fall at the end of February. I have to figure out if I want to see one of the Maine games (ugh) or Providence the next weekend on Star Wars night. Providence is the obvious choice, but seeing an upset over Maine would be awesome. It also depends on what Mrs. GoUML and the family are up for as well. I'm pretty sure I'll be heading up to Durham on one game day (wife and entire inlaw side are UNH alum and big fans)

Regardless of what game(s) I get to go to, I'll just be happy to see hockey live, cheer on the River Hawks, check out the renovations, and take a lap around the Talon Club.

I happen to like Yuengling. You can actually get them at Hanscom and Devens. Also anyone not making the trip to Rochester there have been sightings of the elusive McRib sandwich at the Drum Hill McDonalds.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Not sure if anyone mentioned it here- tonight's game is a benefit for Craig Charron who played for ULowell way back in the day. He is fighting stomach cancer. From what I have heard it is sold out.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

didnt get a chance to really listen to the game tonight but just looked at the game sheet...found it interesting that freshman Chad Ruhwedel was +4 and had 3 assists. Also Pat Cey chipping in with an assist and was +3.

UMass tied BU tonight

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Real quick highlights from ROC since it's late and just checked into hotel. Didn't have interest access last night.

-- Weirdest regular season game I've ever seen Lowell play.
-- We need one of those baby leashes for both of the goalies.
-- RIT did a remarkable job getting 10,000 orange people into that arena
-- Upper classmen answered the call when they had it. Stole a point from RIT tonight
-- The PP breakout from defensive zone was awful. They are OK if the puck startign in the offensive zone.
-- PK needs a lot of work.
-- Both goalies got a lot a puck luck but got some key saves. Don't know why but the team looked a bit more relaxed in front of Boulanger than Carr.

Maybe they just were more relaxed period- they played well Fri night in spurts. Got at least a tie. Maybe they're getting a bit of confidence?

Ruhwedel has been very impressive in both games so far. +/-0 against Niagra then three assists and +4 against RIT are fantastic for a freshman who's going to see a lot of playing time.

Hopefully the games this weekend helped mesh lines and the practices this week will continue the process and work on the dreadful PK unit.

Although it's early in the season, the league games coming up this weekend are huge. PC is in tough times right now and is looking to be at the bottom of the league this year. Then they come out and steal two points from Northeastern. Northeastern then had the bad fortune to play BC and dropped another Hockey East game. Northeastern is better than its 0-2 league record indicates, though.

In what looks to be a tough battle for 7-10 in the league standings, UML needs as many points as possible (obviously) but it is especially important to get points from the teams that will be down there. That's why games against, in my opinion, PC and UMass (and bottom-dwelling Northeastern right now) will be especially important this year.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Two games this weekend. Faaaaantastic. I hope they've developed a video intro to go along with Bob's radio calls. That would really class the place up.
