Attendance might be small due to the Louis CK show on campus that night.

It should be noted that Craig was a member of the original Lowell Lock Monsters back when the Tsongas Arena opened in 1998. After that season, he would make return visits with whatever AHL team he was playing for that played the Lock Monsters.

Just such sad news. :( My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I'm not sure if this has all ready been mentioned; AD Dana Skinner and former hockey coach Bill Riley were in Rochester for last Saturday's game. During the pre game ceremony they presented Craig's sons, Jackson and Nicholas with his UMass Lowell Hockey Hall of Fame plaque. During the warm up the Hawks were wearing the old Chiefs jerseys with the number 5 and Charron on the back. RIT also wore special jerseys that they auctioned off after the game. Nice job by the RIT / Rochester community for raising $7k for Craig and his family.

Yes, indeed, it was a first-rate tribute and class move by both of the Universities, ironically in the same arena where the Americans play. His sons epitomize the type of person he was and I'm sure it was both a cheerful and hard thing to do. I'm sure they realize what he meant to both Lowell and Rochester and we will be able to celebrate that on Friday.

They're going to wear those again for for the warmups on Friday and then auction them off during the game. For those who haven't seen them, I did manage one decent picture of them Saturday night:

Wish they were doing this a week later when BU was there. Either me or my parents would definitely bid on one.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

I started watching Lowell hockey a little after Charron, (my first game was in '93 with my parents) but everything I've heard about the guy since tells me he was a true class act at Lowell and in the Rochester community. Terrible loss, thoughts go out to the family. I'm glad he was able to get that award from Blaise, Riley, and Skinner before he passed.

Those Chiefs jerseys look awesome, I'm hoping to win one and the cause is definitely a good one.

I took some pictures during the ceremony since they were facing towards us. I'll try to get them up tonight in a Picasa album so I can link them here.

I became a UML fan after Charron as well, but the more I read about him, the more I understand what an excellent player he was and how much he had a positive impact in the communities he played in, most notably Lowell and Rochester.

All the best to his family.

Well gUgB if you were up that was a wild one. Phew. Every time we do something special at the arena (open it, take it over) we lose. Tonite w00000000t. I was searing a Chiefs golf shirt in honor of Charron. Do I need to wear this everytime?

Listened to every second and if nothing else, it was exciting. Good way to start the weekend and great to take some points from Providence.

Awesome parts of the game:
Ruwhedel - 3 points (1G, 2A) and +2. He's been great in every game so far.
Other Freshmen Skaters - Pendenza with 2G and Arnold with 1G.
Holmstrom's Hustle in OT - From how it sounded on the radio, the hustle he exhibited for the OT goal was the reason UML got the win.
Powerplay - 2 for 5 (although one is kind of cheap because the 4-on-4 had been over for about 2 seconds, so technically it was a PPG).
Penalty Kill - 2 for 2 (nice to be 100% AND take so few penalties).
Home Atmosphere- Sounded LOUD at the Tsongas.

Not so awesome:
Defensive Zone Coverage - Still sounded sloppy on D.
Goaltending - Carr saved 33 of 37 (.892) and from what it sounded like, wants at least two of them back.
The 2 Minutes After Scoring a Goal - This is starting to become a scary trend. On two occasions, UML scored and then within 2.5 minutes, PC got it back.

Fun game to listen to nonetheless, and looking forward to listening to how the team does (with Boulanger in net, I expect) against a Northeastern team that is better than its record indicates. At least they went into OT last night as well in a 2-2 tie with UNH. Looking for the UML upperclassmen to step up tonight.

Not to be a negative Nancy... but I'm worried about this team after seeing it in action for the first time last night. We were fortunate to be confronted with a team that was as bad defensively and in the net as we were. Maybe we should just put 6 skaters out there and throw a trashcan in net tonight:o

I have to agree with you. With all the soft goals this year the trashcan might actually be an upgrade.
