paging Irish08...you signed up for fantasy college hockey and we actually drafted a team on your behalf...please see the fantasy college hockey thread and let us know if you're actually going to use it.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Thankfully we still don't have the pink hats. :D

yet... i'm sure we could convince the athletic department to help the fight against breast cancer... and there we go... pink hats.

---

Is it just me or is there an odd excitement going on... I figure everybody would jump the bandwagon last year... but the arena work and everything else appears to be creating is own rolling effect.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Compared to other Hockey East rinks where does the new and much improved Tsongas rank?
Depends on if you're talking atmosphere or just in general. Atmosphere wise the stadium/fans need a lot of work.

In general, I've felt for a long time that the Tsongas is the best arena in HE. The new BU arena though is pretty good as well, but I'm biased with all the concessions and the available sightlines from all around the concourse at the Tsongas.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

What was that quote of Blaise's that was in the NESN video last season? He was yelling something to his players on the bench.

Someone has to remember this ... please. I'm talking about the Intro video they played for all NESN games on TV.

Something to the effect of "Don't THINK about it, DO IT!"

My memory may be failing me.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

First, thanks for serving ... there's nothing else I can say that can quite say it except "Thank you."

Second, it used to be Tuesday nights. Haven't heard anything yet about this year.

Thanks for the kind words.

As for the coach's show, they'll probably mention it on the radio broadcast on Friday night. I hope they keep an archive of the show somewhere though. The seven hour time difference is killing the sports fan in me. Don't mind waking up in the middle of the night to listen to a game. Tough to do in the middle of the week for the coach's show.

Hopefully the atmosphere at the Tsongas is good this year. he student body is bigger, more students are living on campus, students get in free (I think), and the university seems to be making an effort to make the sport a premier event for the school. Also, with the AHL franchise out, there will probably be an increase in local fans/families looking for some hockey/inexpensive entertainment on the weekends.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

OK ... preseason game is this weekend. We'll do our normal fun "What will the team's record be?" starting now till next Friday when the season starts.

Has anybody done this yet, maybe in a different thread? I want to be upbeat about the upcoming season so I will go with an overall record of .500. I will pick 14-14-6.

BC 0-3-0
BU 1-2-0
Maine 1-2-0
UMA 1-1-1
Merrimack 1-1-1
UNH 0-2-1
NU 1-1-1
PC 1-1-1
UVM 1-2-0

7-15-5 (19 pts)

Predictions for Standings
BC (1)
Maine (2)
BU/UNH (3/4)
UVM/MC (5-6)
NU (7)
UMA/PC/UML (8-10)

BC 0-3-0 (BC's overall HE record 20-5-2)
BU 0-3-0
Maine 1-2-0
UMA 2-1-0
Merrimack 0-2-1
UNH 1-1-1
NU 1-1-1
PC 1-1-1
UVM 1-1-1

On paper, 7-15-5 (19 pts) :(

Hey, that's why they play the games.

As far as rankings..

BC, UNH, ME, BU, MC, NU, UVM, UML, PC, UMA

BC will be in first wire-to-wire
UNH second....reverse psychology....every time I put these saps lower, they win HE or finsih second, goalie is the key.
ME/BU battles for third/fourth
MC/NU/UVM battles for fifth to seventh.
UMA/PC/UML battles for the final playoff spot.

Just spent some quality time wading through the cesspool that is the Hockey East thread. Figured I'd throw my point predictions out there and start it up:

BC 0-3-0
BU 1-2-0
ME 0-2-1
MC 1-1-1
NU 1-1-1
PC 1-2-0
UNH 1-1-1
UMA 2-0-1
UVM 1-1-1

8-13-6 = 21 pts

Overall HE

1. BC
2. Maine
3. BU
4. MC
5. UNH
6. NU
7. UVM
8. UML
9. PC
10. UMA

These predictions are based on nothing more than my acknowledgment of two key facts:

1. Lowell is going be...how to say this with tact...dreadful.
2. BC is going to murder anyone and everyone who has the audacity to skate on the same ice as them.

Everything else is merely a guess.

BC 1-2-0
BU 1-2-0
Maine 0-3-0
UMA 1-1-1
Merrimack 1-2-0
UNH 1-2-0
NU 2-0-1
PC 2-0-1
UVM 2-1-0

Overall : 11-14-3 (25 points)

HE Standings
BC
Maine
BU
UNH
MC
UML
NU
UVM
PC
UMA

ive been reading this back and forth all summer long you guys look at it as a disappointing year but even with a young team we have the talent to be a good team this year. We were good against BC last year beating them twice so expect a win. Also expect a win against BU. No way were beating Maine this year they have such an offensive threat. MC is good team i feel we will fall short in both games we lose and take one. UNH always a good team we can snag a game there. I feel we can beat both PC and NU twice and tie at least once. We will take 2 in Vermont at the end of the year pushing for the playoffs they will be in 8th. UMA is a joke. Cant wait we are about a month away. I am excited for the new arena!
Here are all the posts regarding that. I'll get mine up today. Anyone else want to play?

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

I realize that last season was nothing short of an utter disappointment and complete failure, especially how it ended at Maine. At some point, we as a fan base have to move on from this.

The new season is here and it's time to move in another direction, no matter how hard and/or painful it may be. The numerous freshmen that will be on the ice in about 24 hours had no impact on last year's playoff and/or season debacle.

Just some random thoughts.

My predictions...
BC 0-2-1
BU 1-2-0
ME 1-2-0 (we'll win one of the home games)
MC 1-1-1
NU 1-1-1
PC 2-1-0
UNH 1-1-1
UMA 1-1-1
UVM 1-2-0 (lose both up there)

9-13-5 = 23 pts, 8th place in HE

@ Niagara - tie, @ RIT - Loss, UMD 1-1, @ Princeton 1-1, Bentley W.

So 12-16-6 total.

you know what though.... last year did at least show that you can win at maine... no reason not to go up there and sting them.

Not trying to be an optimist... I'm just done with the Eeyore mindset around the program.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

And finally the preview from INCH which has this interesting question...
Could UMass Lowell be home to the conference’s best defense pair?

As a group the River Hawk defensemen don’t appear too imposing, but Maury Edwards and Ryan Blair comprise the top pair and figure to log a lot of minutes. They’ve played together for most of the past three seasons and have a comfort level – and complementary styles – that make for an elite pair.
