2009 Boston Red Sox

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox

Here we go. The race to the playoffs.
4 1/2 game lead on the Rangers, 20 games to go, no days off. 3 at home, 10 straight on the road, then 7 at home to close out the season.

Texas has 19 remaining, 8 home, 11 away. Their last 7 are on the road.

We look to be in the drivers seat, but so did Buffalo against the Pats.
Hoping DiceK can bring it from here on out. He could add a nice boost.

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox

This has been a lovely stretch of games. Anyone expect that from Dice-K?!?!?

That noose around the Ranger's necks has started to tighten. Interested to see if they can pull off a comeback tonight.

Wasn't sure what to expect from DiceK, but I was anxious to see him pitch after reading Amalie Benjamin's Sunday Globe article. The comments from DiceK and Tito were very encouraging. It appears the words weren't just lip service.

Matsuzaka: "But I also feel that I was able to use that time to get prepared really well, and I just hope that I can apply all those things that I was preparing for in my start."
Matsuzaka said that it might not be that big of a change, but his stuff "is a little bit better."
"I think it was a difficult season, but I also firmly believe that the experiences I had this year are going to help me going forward."

Francona: "The last two months have been really productive. He's worked hard. He's done everything we've asked him to do and probably a little bit more. So we are excited.
I think short term we're hoping it will be really beneficial. I think long term it will be tremendous. Regardless of how he pitches Tuesday, I think long term this is something that needed to be done."

Did the Angels LF have money on the Red Sox? What a disgraceful effort, the ball landed right in front of him and he didn't even run that hard.

I had the same thought, he should have laid out for the ball, if it got past him then at least he'd have tried.

If you hear a loud popping noise, that's just Mike Scosia's head. That was the baseball version of what happened to the Bills on Monday.

That "We're getting screwed! " expression on his face was priceless, as was the whining by Brian Fuentes, who couldn't put away (a) a guy taking his first major league AB in months or (b) a cripple who was putting up near-Mendoza numbers when he was healthy.

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox

So hey, we're in the playoffs! We got the crap kicked out of us last night. Any thoughts on what will go down tonight? Or am i alone in this thread?

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox

The Angels have a very good team, but this has been a rotten effort thus far. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Re: 2009 Boston Red Sox

I have tickets for Monday. I fully expect to be sitting on my couch watching Gossip Girl instead. backing into the playoffs like that was not a good sign. Maybe, maybe they can squeak out a win tomorrow, but this series is not going back to Anaheim.

My assessment too. Of course, I'm not watching Gossip Girl, but I'm with you on the rest.

I swear, even after two world series titles, this team doesn't just have slumps, they WALLOW in them.

Can someone explain to me why the Mets traded Wagner to the Sox? Could they not have just offered him arbitration after the season and get draft picks for him?

Unless he took the arbitration, then they'd be stuck with a player they didn't want, and be paying him more than they were.

Because the Mets felt that getting two draft picks weren't worth the 2 million dollars they saved by trading Wagner.

Hooray pathetic organization.
