2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I don't even know what I can say after that game. Me and about everyone else figured they were done being down 4 to the best team in the West.

That was something to see.

There's still time to turn it around. Maybe this is the spark that gets them jumping back up in the standings.

Their 1-6 start killed them and the stupid earn a point for a loss deal will continue to do so. Despite going 21-14 since they are still 8 points out of 8th place and that's going to be nearly impossible to overcome.

8 Points now? Been a while since I looked and they were only 4 or so. Must have lost ground recently on that 4 game losing streak. Heard this morning that Owen Nolan may be traded by the deadline so I think they're planning on not making the playoffs.

I'm ok with not pushing for the playoffs this season, especially if they can get some prospects and keep building for the future. I don't think anyone actually thought they'd be a playoff caliber team this year, with the change in systems. It is nice to see that the team is actually ahead of where I'd expect them to be, at this point.

As much as I like Nolan, shipping him off at the deadline is probably the best option right now. He's gonna retire in the next couple years and we might as well get something for him while he's still producing enough to be a worthwhile rental player.

I agree with that. I thought pre-season they'd be lucky to sniff 8th place, but when they had the long stretch of playing .667 hockey it give a glimmer of hope until the 4 game losing streak beat it back to reality. And if that is the case, even though I love Nolan on the team, I can't argue with the trade especially since Fletcher seems more than capable of making it work in their favor.

In addition to that, does Harding go back on the block? What of Sykora? Boogie is probably done here but who else goes (release, trade, no re-sign)?

Teams have made up that kind of ground before, and with the amount of games left at home plus I would assume against conference opponents (we have only played the flames twice for example) it isn't out of the realm of possibilities they could still get to 8. They won't, but stranger things have happened recently.

The fact they are this close minus Burns and PMB tells me a lot.

The way he has played I would rather they kept Nolen around but if they get a good deal then I am not going to complain. I would assume that they are not above fielding offers for most of the roster if the price is right. I just hope they don't make too many moves, this year has shown the team really isn't that far away (to a lot of people's surprise including mine) no need to burn it down ya know?

Nolan is the balls. By far my favorite Wild player since he joined the team.

Yet, trading him is smart. IF they get what he is worth.

Re: 2009-2010: Official Minnesota Wild Thread

I would guess that Harding is on the block, but does he have any trade value anymore? He hasn't looked good enough for someone to think that he could be a number #1 type guy to help on a playoff run.

My guess is Harding would be an offseason trade with the way he has played this year.

SOH,

I agree completely on both counts. He is a leader on the ice and no matter who is on his line he gets them chances to score on almost any shift.

Love him on the team too. Reminds me of having Rolston (as far as his energy and consistency) without the annoying facial hair and obligatory post-game interview. :D

Although one thing that Nolan doesn't bring to the table that Rolston had is a bad-arse tendency to take slap shots on penalty shots.

Out of all the dekes and crazy moves I've seen on shootout attempts/penalty shots, the slap shot from the top of the circles still probably ranks in my top 3.
