'09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Well just call me Gomer....surprise, surprise, surprise....the NCAA came through for the West after all, after reading the NCAA release. Hey good for them for sticking to their word, and not let $$$$ come in the way. It will cost them a good chunk of change to bring teams West, but the West cannot cry foul anymore.

Time for me to eat crow, but Gomer liked crow deep fried. Good luck to everyone over the next two weekends, and now that it is going West, let's hope that the host does not come in 4th, or the banter of East over West will surge even more.

Notice, however, that based on the brackets, the winner of GA/WRF is seeded 4th in the semis and playing #1 seed Amherst. Maybe that's legitimate, maybe not. Keep in mind, GA was one of the few teams that defeated 2009 NCAA Champion Amherst last year!!!

I did notice that and it came as a surprise to me. I thought it would have been Amherst/Plattsburgh 1/2, with GAC/River Falls 3/4, Elmira 5, Trinity 6, and Norwich 7. I would have guessed the first round matchups correctly, but I would have had the Plattsburgh/Norwich winner face the GAC/River Falls winner with Amherst facing the Elmira/Trinity winner.

That said, you want the title National Champ, you'd better be prepared to beat whoever is put in front of you...

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

How many of you Easterners are actually coming out to enjoy our Mid Western hospitality and watch a great tournament live?

All the teams are good who will be playing, and there should be no excuses. It will be fun to see where every one falls out, and the cream does rise to the top. Good luck to all of the teams!!

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

I will definitely attend if my daughter's team makes it. It will depend on this weekend. Hubby will come too if he can get time off of work.

SayWhat was wrong all along as well...gotta love that!

Say What??? I'll give the part about the location, but I still stick by my numbers derived from the actual creiteria (not emotional NCHA hyperbola/drivel):p to pick the at-large teams. I don't suppose you would like to see how Lake Forest, Adrian, Superior, St Kate's or any one else stacked up against Trinity for that last spot would you? Okay, her it is anyway. I'd say the NC$$ got it about right!:)

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Actually, it seems to work out ok, although I don't know what the facilities are @ GAC or RF ... the concerns about hosting anything more than a public skate @ Orr are well founded. Maybe this will drive Amherst to upgrade their hockey facilities, for the first time in 50 years?

The GAC arena seats 1000. They had over 800 in attendance for the quarterfinals last year. If the Finals end up being at their arena is St. Peter, Mankato is only 12 miles away and has plenty of hotels in all price ranges.

Whoever mentioned a lack of women's hockey developement in the West has never been to Minnesota.

I'll never make a trip that is more than a few hours from home. As a CPA, this time of year, the leash that is attached to my desk greatly restricts travel! Besides, I will be working at the men's Frozen Four in Lake Placid that weekend.

Except for the home team, I am not so sure you will get more than a handful of non family members coming to watch the hockey, so 1000 will be sufficient. Hopefully the lighting is good, so we can watch online.

No one has ever said that the development of Womens hockey in Minnesota is lacking, so not sure to what you are referring??

Can someone tell why Trinity is there. I have looked at their schedule and I'm not impressed at all. I do know the teams to a point that they have played, so yes it a guess why..

They should change the pecking order and go with 5 east and 5 west and go from there.

Say What??? It is very simple, the NC$$ uses Primary and Secondary Criteria to pick the two at-larges per the guidelines in the Championship handbook. If teams don’t stand out head and shoulders above other teams using the Primary Criteria, they go to the Secondary Criteria. Using their criteria, the selection was very simple this year. The real question was where to you play the FF. So what team do you think belongs in and what team would you bump?

Lake Forest and 1 other team..But yea I get it. My team did not even make the MIAC playoffs so I'm an outsider.

They have played Middlebury and Amherst... no one else on their schedule is all that good... whether they deserve to be there... I would say yes... I don't think there is really any other team that is more deserving... I really don't see Trinity advancing past the first round unless Iwachiw stands on her head again... which she has been doing all season and her whole career... good luck to them... I'd like to see them upset Elmira... would be great to see some new teams in the final four...

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

this guy -- proudly wearin my red and white, bud.

Regardless of whether Plattsburgh is out there or not;)

Don't sleep on Norwich. Yes i know Plattsburgh beat them quite handily 7-2 last time but this Norwich team is dangerous.

The Cadets darn well almost knocked off Elmira in the quarterfinals last year. They can play.

Gee, plugger, it was you: "but until the rest of the West can build their programs like the east,". Did I misunderstand your post?

My crystal ball is at the cleaners so I can't predict how many will attend the Finals, and I won't get into a futile arguement; but rest assured the lighting is very good at the Don Roberts arena and those who cannot make it will be able to enjoy the webcast and commentators, as I have a few times.

Good luck to all the teams and here's to seeing some great hockey games!

You read my post correctly, some of the best players in DI and DIII are from the Minnesota, no questions about it, but you can see many of those players heading east as they are all over the rosters of the eastern teams at both DI and DIII, so thank you for developing them for many of us to watch in college.

I am always surprised why so many good Minnesota high school hockey players come east to play....do I dare say they think, at least at DIII level, that they feel the hockey is better. I have only talked to a couple that feel that way, so you need to get the West DIII schools to keep these Minnesota players out there.
