'09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Knowing Coach Houle...Plattsburgh will be ready. nd the girls are gonna be MAD as ...

I agree. It wouldnt surpise me if Plattsburgh won 8-0 or if it was a close 3-2 game either.

Plattsburgh certainly wants to get the taste of that Elmira loss out of their mouths and get another possible crack at the Soaring Eagles again in the semifinals if both teams win.

Elmira has their own task though in trying to solve Iwachiw.

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Someone better let 4AND20 know before he blows a gasket.;)

Well I certainly hope which ever west school hosts that they don't allow the public to any banquet! That would be just terrible to let the parents of the three team traveling to enjoy an evening with all the particapants.

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

The GAC arena seats 1000. They had over 800 in attendance for the quarterfinals last year. If the Finals end up being at their arena is St. Peter, Mankato is only 12 miles away and has plenty of hotels in all price ranges.

Whoever mentioned a lack of women's hockey developement in the West has never been to Minnesota.

They had over 1200 people in there last week for mens playoffs, and I can bet it will be very close to that number if they host the finals. Since this is the first exposure in the west, and since high school hockey is so great, coaches will encourage their players to attend to see the quality of play. I expect Don Roberts Ice Arena to be packed. Not to jump the gun, Gustavus first has to make it there, but it could be a great host.

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Boy GA or UWRF will have their work cut out for them to get ready on such short notice, they will have a ton of work to get done in roughly 5 short days, as the NCAA requirements are pretty rigid and require a unlimited hours of work and attention.

Whoever gets the final four, congratulations, good luck, and buy alot of coffee you have a ton of work in front of you that will lead to many very short nights of sleep. I am sure whoever gets it will do a great job, and just make sure you book a vacation right after that, as you will need it!!;)

If GAC wins, a packed Don Roberts Arena will not help the already crap ice that is there.

That arena has good ice, the only time this year it was bad, the mens team went 4 overtimes and they ran the ice down, so they flooded during the week to bring up the thickness of the ice. Once you try to build it up, it takes a little while to get solid. Then they had 1200 people in there for a playoff game and it was hot in the arena and a little spot of the ice was bad. That has been addressed, the men host on Wednesday, and the ice is already is great shape and will remain that way.

yeah, as great of shape as that ice gets. that rink has a rep among the MIAC and NCHA, both mens and womens, for having crappy ice

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

I am always surprised why so many good Minnesota high school hockey players come east to play....do I dare say they think, at least at DIII level, that they feel the hockey is better. I have only talked to a couple that feel that way, so you need to get the West DIII schools to keep these Minnesota players out there.

Or they get to go to say Middlebury/Williams vs UW-Eau Claire or Concordia-Moorhead. I don't know why they go, but they do what they do.

To respond to a different post...

I'm sure that River Falls and Gustavus will be more than happy to put together a Final Four in a week!!

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

You read my post correctly, some of the best players in DI and DIII are from the Minnesota, no questions about it, but you can see many of those players heading east as they are all over the rosters of the eastern teams at both DI and DIII, so thank you for developing them for many of us to watch in college.

There are some kids that believe the hype:rolleyes: , but for the most part it may be their field of study, or, that they just want to get as far away from home as possible and still play some decent hockey. In that case out east would fill the bill.

Interesting topic. I'm more apt to believe that the majority of players pick a college for academics first and the hockey is the second consideration. Given that, because Minnesota does develop so many quality players, and there are only so many spots available in a year, they need to spread out. Of course, places such as Harvard have a reputation that is a big draw for our players.

Not only do I agree that they will be more than happy, I am sure they will want to do a great job to represent the West in their first hosting. I am sure whoever it is will do a great job. Good luck to whichever school gets to host!!!!

I'm sure most of the infrastructure is already in place. I mean, wouldn't some of the planning have been done when submitting the bid? They do know what needs to be done already. I highly doubt it'll be a problem to put it together. I, for one, wish I could go west to see the final four. I'll have to live vicariously through gojackets descriptions!

Say What??? Is it just me or is there an incredible repugnance, disgust, dislike and hatred for Gustavus among all other MIAC and NCHA teams and their fans? You get the feeling, mention anything about Gustavus and some “WESTERN” fan(???) is sure to point out something negative.

Here's a thought....perhaps it's more than just the hockey. Perhaps it has to do with the hockey combined with the academics. OK...darn...I just reread nbound's post and much to my surprise, I'm in agreement.

Don Roberts I would say is better in every facet... except the ice... The arena looks like it was built in 1922.... the lighting sucks.... and your view is obstructed from many places in the arena... for the people in the east that can't travel west and want to watch... I would say pray for gustavus to win on saturday...

I would like to have some of what you're smoking..is that's all you got for why RF shouldn't host then your argument is pretty weak. RF has one of the best facilities in the west. The arena is well kept the only thing that looks old about it are the bleachers. There are some crappy angles, but there is plenty of room to stand along the boards. The ice is awesome, there's a sweet big screen that they play the game on, there are four huge locker rooms, there's a big fieldhouse connected to the arena, a first class training room, there are plenty of hotels within ten to fifteen minutes of town, it's their own arena owned by the University, also they have a live webcast of every home game and there's a camera system set up by the tech dept...

now let's compare that to don roberts arena..the ice sucks, the glass has the metal poles between the sheets of glass so pucks bounce everywhere, they are extremely short as well, the arena itself looks crappy and could use a facelift, the boards suck..I would say RF is better in every aspect..

could not have said it better myself! little do you know though, that there's a brand new hotel put up in town. the thing is though that if the frozen four is held in RF it would be smart for the NCAA to rent the whole thing for the other 3 teams.

I'll just remain smug in the fact that the NCHA has knocked Gustavus out of the NCAA tournament the last 3 soon to be 4 years.
