'09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

I would like to have some of what you're smoking..is that's all you got for why RF shouldn't host then your argument is pretty weak. RF has one of the best facilities in the west. The arena is well kept the only thing that looks old about it are the bleachers. There are some crappy angles, but there is plenty of room to stand along the boards. The ice is awesome, there's a sweet big screen that they play the game on, there are four huge locker rooms, there's a big fieldhouse connected to the arena, a first class training room, there are plenty of hotels within ten to fifteen minutes of town, it's their own arena owned by the University, also they have a live webcast of every home game and there's a camera system set up by the tech dept...

now let's compare that to don roberts arena..the ice sucks, the glass has the metal poles between the sheets of glass so pucks bounce everywhere, they are extremely short as well, the arena itself looks crappy and could use a facelift, the boards suck..I would say RF is better in every aspect..

seems like it is all a matter of opinion... the lighting is much better in don roberts.... which will make the video feed much better...

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

This is truly funny. Western fans have complained about having to play in the east for all of these "unfair" years. "Forced" to play a great facility in Plattsburgh or an Olympic surface in Midd. Now, you're busy taking shots at each other's facilities and how crappy they are!

I agree 100%. Whichever team hosts, congrats to them. Let them take care of the facilities in order to get prepared. Usually whining and complaining takes place after the fact, so let's at least give them a chance to get ready, and then if it is bad, this is a great place to give feedback.

Good luck!

How so? We just want to give the great gods of the east a good tournament and an awesome place to play..we owuldn't want to dissappoint after all of our 'Whinning' and 'complaining'

the lighting may be better. but in order to have a quality video feed you need to broadcast a quality video feed. i've watched many games from there. the feed sucks.

and no, it's not people bickering. i think any western team, besides the home teams, will agree with me that the worst rinks in the west are:
1. Lake Forest
2. Gustavus
3. Finlandia (only slighly better cause i hear it has nicer locker rooms than GAC)

I never thought Lake Forest was that bad. Actually has some charm. Now Hamline OTOH where the dressing room = box

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Personally there is reason for some complaint with each arena. The lighting is brighter over the course of the arena at Don Roberts. However Hunt I believe gives the an a better experience. You are right on the ice and the ice is well lit, the fans sit a bit in shadow but where the action is is definitely well lit. The shadowed bleacher area definitely is not ideal for video, however River Falls is new to the Television scene with the Digital Film and Television major just being in its third year. There is also a new campus organization which will begin working next year on improving the quality of all RF sports video.

As for the ice, River Falls ice is almost always in very good condition, really rare to hear a complaint. One of the best comments I have ever heard about the playing surface at Don Roberts is that it is not the worst a player has ever played on but is sub-par.

Also the metal posts on the glass at Don Roberts do as I have witnessed occasionally seem to give a funny bounce, but nothing to dramatic. That said one weekend at Hunt this year we had an issue with one of the pieces of glass being at an odd angle and giving off some very strange bounces, which of course has long since been fixed.

Any facility has good parts and one or two questionable parts to it. But in any case your a collegiate athlete you have played on worse, suck it up and play the game. Either site will do an excellent job of hosting the tourney. Wish I could be there. Go FALCONS and good luck to everyone.

that's because they leave the lights off to focus on the game. not that hard to notice that one.

and yeah, they DO suck it up all the time. more than you know.

Homer Simpson: Yeah Moe, that team sure did suck last night. They just plain sucked! I've seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. (Homer, watch your mouth!) Uh, I gotta go, my **** weiner kids are listening.

No, I think the kids are the ones posting! :o

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

it is funny that the two teams that could potentially host are concentrating on who has the better facility as if that decides who host's the Final Four.

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

I would like to see how Gustavus' style of play works against the eastern teams. Will teams like Plattsburgh get outshot by 30??

I know thats why they leave the lights off.....but they are also working on a way to make the video better by adjusting lighting and camera positions. of course they suck it up....who doesn't situations or facilities are rarely ideal and of course when it comes down to it they are gonna skate their hearts out

I haven't seen GA play this year. What is their "style of play"?
I doubt any team in the playoffs will get out shot by 30!

It looks pretty close on paper......
GA averages 42.9 shots per game
Plattsburgh averages 41.3 shots per game

However, GA needs to get past WRF before we would find out how they do against Eastern Teams....

You're right that I doubt any team in the tournament would get outshot by 30.

GAC plays a very puck possession style of offense and they throw EVERYTHING on net when they are in the offensive zone.

Most teams that beat them usually employ a counter-attacking style.
