Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread
Such is the lot for Cance. He had the exact same scenario in Milan-San Remo this year. He got away on the descent of the Poggio with Nibali and Simon Gerrans. Nibali tried to work but he was cooked and Gerrans didn't work. Cance pushed on and Gerrans out sprinted him. Interestingly the winner of the bunch sprint for 4th was Sagan (whose team-mate was in the break) so he knew Cance would keep working. As it was Cance did cook Boasson Hagen. I felt worse for Cance back in March then now, then he lost a monument today he lost lost a tour stage.
Still impressive to see Sagan's development this year. He didn't follow Cance at M-SR and lost. He made a pointless attack at Gent-Wevelgem and lost. He was strong in both RvV and AGR and lost both. Today he showed the experience to follow at the right time and not make a pointless attack.
Feel really bad for Cance making that power move only to have Sagan and Hagon sit on his wheel and not help with the pacemaking so all the effort goes for not to gain time for Cance. He could have got 5-10 seconds if they worked with him.
The guy is an absolute monster and not only does he not win the stage, he doesn't get any time gained.
