Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Did all the climbers crash yesterday? I couldn't believe the finish. It wasn't like this stage had 3 or 4 Cat 1 or HC climbs before the end it was relatively tame but 5 guys in the final group and Cancellara finished ahead of most of the climbers. This stage stumped me and if BMC doesn't have the climbers Cadel may be in for some rough times in the Alps and Pyrenees.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Most of the climbers did crash. And BMC doesn't have much in the way of climbers. But the UK Postal team pretty much crushed the others. I think their pacing really helps Nibali, he is a power/tempo climber like Wiggins. I'm just kind of hoping the Evans and Nibs team up to attack on a downhill where Wiggins has struggled in the past.

Tomorrow should be interesting with a break likely to stay away, anyone looking for dots should be on the attack.

Sammy Sanchez becomes next big gun to retire with crash today :(

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Yup. But at least UK Postal looked weaker and Evans and Lo Squalo did try something on the downhill. Too bad it was such a straight forward descent.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

It is looking more and more like a 4 person race for yellow.

I suspect tomorrow barring crashes or a mechanical Wiggins puts 30 seconds to a minute on Menchov and Evans and maybe a minute and a half plus on Nibali.

I hope your right, but I think it's over after tomorrow. Wiggins and Froome look too strong. There aren't any stages like Angrilu to cause them much of a problem on the road.

If they remain in striking range all it takes is one bad day in the mountains but so far Wiggo and Sky have looked strong though not as strong today as yesterday.

I think there are 2 possibilities for someone besides Wiggins to win. 1) Wiggins hasn't really proved himself over a real multi-climb stage. 2) Nibali has decreed that if it rains in the mountains, Wiggins can't win. Additionally Nibali also said if he only loses 1:30 to Wiggins he is still in with a chance.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

I kept wondering what would Sky do if Wiggins bonked or had a mechanical and Froome took yellow. I will be extremely interested to see what Radio Shack does with so many guys in the top 20 they could launch 1 2 or 3 guys and then have Zubelia sit in the bunch and make Sky chase.

Sky can chase all day and night. Big assumption that you can get away from them in the first place. We've seen this type of tour before. Several times. Only thing that could bring entertainment is if Froome decides to go for the win.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Tommy V for the win as the break stays away. Tough break for Jens. A little attacking but not too much as Sky hangs tough. Tomorrow will be a nice stage.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

I want to thank Nibali for single handedly trying to liven up the Tour.

Tomorrow has the potential to be good but La Toussuire -- Les Sybelles isn't the best finishing climb for this race. Its not steep(except the first few K) and has a consistent gradient, ie perfect for UK Postal. I think that BMC and Liqui need to go hard over the Madelaine and the Croix deFer and kill off as many UK Postal doms as possible. Then Evans and Nibali and JvdB can try on the descent of the Mollard. The major monkey wrenches here are the lack of climbers on BMC, guts of the contenders teams, and RadioShack randomly deciding to defend their 6th place again.

Vai Lo Squalo!

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Also a good move by Sagan to pick up some green jersey points. I suspect this is how he will win the jersey. Goss was able to go with him yesterday but one of these days Sagan will be the only sprinter there and pick up the points at the intermediate while Goss, who I see as the only real contender can't make it over the climb.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Millar wins as the break stays away again. Goss relegated in the sprint loses points in the green jersey race. Also get this Wiggins burned on the arm by moron fan running alongside him with a flare.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Sort of a sprint stage today though just Greipel and Sagan left at the end. Sagan has the green wrapped up barring a crash or if he doesn't finish. So on my team I picked (probably) the green and yellow jersey winners, Canc for early points and a good 6 point pick in Tejay and the rest of my team either crashed out or did crappy.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Well Sagan definitely has the green wrapped now, huh? Very impressive.

Also impressive, maybe more so, is the performances of Moreno Moser in Poland. He is another of Liquigas' young guns. Think Sagan with more ability in an uphill finish and slightly less in a straight sprint. His win today over Henao was unreal. Henao has about 15 seconds under the kite and Moser ran him down.

P.S. Yes he is related to that Moser.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

I love how the French police are saying they probably will not be able to find out who spread the tacks and nails across the road today. So there were what 25,000+ people on the mountain with camera's and cell phones and nobody is going to say yeah I saw this guy(s) throw nails in the road. They obviously were thrown sometime after the break went through since none of them flatted. You could conceivably charge them with assault since Kiserlovski broke his collarbone after crashing.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Frank Schleck positive. Is this Becca's way of saving the money he wasn't paying him?

It's funny that it says this in the article "Xipamide, the substance found in Schleck's urine, is not specifically mentioned on WADA's prohibited substance" So if it isn't a specifically named banned substance how can Schleck be penalized? Or are all Diuretics banned?
