Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

yep, but didn't get the points boost I expected. I guess everyone else near the top also had Rodriguez and Hesjedahl, which mitigated any points boost for me from DeGendt.

Lance officially charged with doping today, suspended immediately.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Lance officially charged with doping today, suspended immediately.

I'll be honest unlike the rest of the people who post in this thread ;) I am not a big Lance fan but this is just a bunch of BS. it is basically the same old charges and I am sure the witnesses will be the same guys who have made charges in the past; Lemond, Landis, Hamilton. They just spent 2 years investigating him without any charges but Usada is going to find definite proof? Unless they are hoping one of the other named defendants flips and has proof I see little chance of this sticking.

Pet peeves I find it ironic that USADA "leaked" it immediately. Funny how that always seems to happen it always seems as if L'Equippe knows someone tested positive before the rider does.

The other one is if they are alleging a wide spread use of doping by Johan's teams during the period shouldn't they be filing cases against all the riders? I can think of several active riders who rode during that period; Hincapie, Levi, Horner, Kloden, Popo etc. Whey haven't they been charged as well?

I also just want to say that I knew Rui Costa would do well for my fantasy team I just didn't realize it would be in the Tour De Suisse rather than the Giro.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Velogames is open for the TdF. Not happy I missed the deadline for the Giro, but I won't miss this one. I can create a USCHO group if no one else wants to, otherwise I'll let whoever usually takes care of such things handle it.

Finally back into cycling in full, I don't have time at the moment to get too detailed, but after watching the Giro, Dauphine, ToC and Tour de Suisse I have to say I'm really, really looking forward to the TdF this year. Could be far more open and unpredictable than in some of the recent years, imo. Seems there's a decent consensus that Evans and Wiggins are the faves, but what does everyone think about this year?

Additionally, after about a ten year layoff I finally got a new bike. Used to be quite good back in the day so I'm really looking forward to going all out to see just how good I can be if I really work at it. Should be fun.

The USCHO League is set up

League Name: USCHO
League Code: 24115618

My team, yes I picked Levi he was a compromise after I couldn't shoehorn Geesink onto my team.

Levi LEIPHEIMER
Bradley WIGGINS
Fränk SCHLECK
Tejay VAN GARDEREN
Jose Joaquin ROJAS
Tony MARTIN
Thomas DANIELSON
Fabian CANCELLARA
Peter SAGAN

and George Sagan as an all rounder come on the kids a sprinter he gets over mountains about as well as Oscar Freire and you don't list him as an all rounder.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Not particularly happy with my team, but here it is:

Bradley WIGGINS SKY 22
Peter SAGAN LIQ 14
Jurgen VAN DEN BROECK LTB 14
Pierre ROLLAND EUC 10
Marcel KITTEL PRO 14
Amets TXURRUKA EUS 4
Blel KADRI ALM 4
Arthur VICHOT FDJ 4
Robert GESINK RAB 14

I actually consider Bottle too, with Omega's record this year, he has to be in with a chance.

Probert, your team has come crazy TT power. I'm more depending on the break.

This is all subject to change if I remember to take a look...

About what I thought as well when I saw him listed there. Also subject to change here, but it looks like we had roughly the same idea. Unfortunately I couldn't manage to shoehorn Jeremy Roy in this year. Too bad he's 6 instead of the 4 he always had been. I'll miss him :p

Bradley WIGGINS
Peter SAGAN
Fränk SCHLECK
Pierre ROLLAND
Mark CAVENDISH
Tony MARTIN
Fabian CANCELLARA
Arthur VICHOT
Imanol ERVITI

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

sagan did win the stage to big Bear at the Amgen Tour a couple years ago, so he does have some climbing ability. He may have sacrificed a bit of that recently to concentrate more on the sprinting side of the sport, but as I recall, at that time he was spoken of as a more all-around type of cyclist.

I suspect with all the TT's this year barring a crash Levi should be top 10. Looking at the course unless a sprinter gets close time wise in the prologue, they are having time bonuses right, I suspect whoever wins it, obviously I think Tony or Canc will, holds the jersey till day 10.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

I agree that they probably hold the jersey for a while, though there are a few uphill type finishes.

Regarding Sagan, he is an all-arounder. His palmeres back that up. He can do TTs (short, but...) sprint, hills, and cobbles. He stuggles in big mountains but is sort of like EBH and capable to a point. The stage he won in the Vuelta, where he pipped Nibali, I think, featured a fairly large climb that Liquigas attacked on the descent. However when it comes to the TDF he isn't a traditional all-arounder. Perhaps George should re-name that catagories, GC rider or something. I seem to recall he did something similar with Cance a few years ago.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

wanted to try to get Cadel and Wiggins on the same team, but just couldn't make it work. So I took Bottle on my team too. I'm ashamed.

Wiggins
Sagan
Van Der Brouck
Schleck
Oss
Tony Martin
Cancellara
Costa
Bottle

My thought process for all rounder in a Grand Tour is a rider who has a chance to win the Tour which Sagan does not.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

I don't disagree. My point is simply that to some cycling purists, Sagan is an all-rounder. And that George has called a similar rider, Cance, an all-rounder in the past. Frankly, my opinion is the same as yours in this case, Sagan should be a sprinter as that is where he will make his mark on this Tour ergo he should be a sprinter. But c'est la guerre...

I have also made some changes to my team, still don't like it but its less dependent on the pointless break. Now I'm depending on my ability to determine who is going for the dots this year.

Little bump here for anyone who missed it and might want to jump in. After haggling over a few things all week I made a few changes to my team, though I'm still not sure if I've finalized it at this point. I will say I really like what I've got at the moment...which means it will do terrible. :)

Might make 1 or 2 more changes but here is what I have.

Chris HORNER
Cadel EVANS
Frank SCHLECK
Tee jay VAN GARDENEN
Andrei GREIPEL
Nicholas ROCHE
Fabian CANCELLARA
Tony MARTIN
Peter SAGAN

Made a couple more changes and honestly I feel like I've got an absolutely stacked team.

Hopefully I went the right way on Evans over Wiggins.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Wish I could have found a way to keep Van Garderen.

Rolland sucked the duck today in the TT.

I know he's a climber, but still for a guy who won the white last year I was expecting a bit more.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Hate that I didn't take Cance. Stupid me.

Cadel EVANS BMC 22 23
Vincenzo NIBALI LIQ 16 17
Samuel SÁNCHEZ EUS 16 0
Tejay VAN GARDEREN BMC 6 111
Mark RENSHAW RAB 6 0
Edvald Boasson HAGEN SKY 8 98
Tony MARTIN OPQ 8 0
Anthony ROUX FDJ 4 0
Peter SAGAN LIQ 14 0

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Had 3 in the top 5 and should have had 4 without Tony's mechanical glad I switched the team to take both Tony and Canc

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Got three of the top four today with Sagan, Cance and Gilbert!!!

Fun stage to watch at the end with the uphill finish.

Feel really bad for Cance making that power move only to have Sagan and Hagon sit on his wheel and not help with the pacemaking so all the effort goes for not to gain time for Cance. He could have got 5-10 seconds if they worked with him.

The guy is an absolute monster and not only does he not win the stage, he doesn't get any time gained.
