Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Tom Boonen did not win Amstel Gold today. Only because he didn't race it.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

What a great week of cycling so far. The first two races of the Ardennes and in Italy, one of my favorite races, the Giro Del Trentino! One short TTT then three monster mountain stages. Today may have been the best finishing climb I've ever scene! It easily rivaled the Zoncolon and Mortirolo, The Punta Veleno! Like 10 K with slopes up to 20% omitting the first 2 K and the last 2 K it was over 15% but the whole thing was still over 10%. If you can find the climb on youtube or something, it is HIGHLY recommended. In the race itself, Domineco Pozzovivo dominated the climb ahead of Szmyd, Cunego, and Rujano. I really enjoy watching Pozzo climb, just hope he actually makes it to the mountains in the Giro this year, unlike every other year.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Max Iglinsky finishes off a great classics season for Astana with a win in Liege-Bastogne-Liege. He caught a beautiful attack from Nibali in the final K then pulled away. Gasparotto won the sprint for 3rd. Nibles is really growing on me as a rider. He made the race at last years Giro del Lombardia, made it at Milan-San Remo, and made it again today. We've got Romandie coming up this week, then the big one, Il Giro on 5 May.

P.S. Since this is a hockey board after all, its nice to see Iglinsky rocking a mullett!

I was hoping someone would at least make a chase on Nibali, only to find I after the exciting finish that I would have preferred Nibali.

Went out for a ride today and took a picture of my self!

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Congrats to Andrew Talansky for his second place finish in the Tour of Romandie. Great time trial by Wiggo was too tough to beat. Looks like both NBC Sports and Universal Sports will have Giro coverage. Hopefully daily coverage on NBC, for some reason right after the move from Versus to NBC my cable company dropped Universal Sports which sucks since they are the only one with Vuelta coverage, but I suspect just a weekly update.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

I'll need to see a final list but this is the easiest time I've had putting together a strong team. Which is odd since I think the race can go 3 different ways. But I was able to get all 3 potential winners. However I must stop myself from picking Pozzovivo, who I love, but he'll probably end up blown into the Kattegat or the Skaerrak before the race even gets to Italy, he only weighs 117 lbs!

Oh, do we have a League yet?

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

So today from 2-3 on NBC not NBC Sport or Universal Sports they will have Gira D'Italia coverage, right before the Kings Blues game. This is the first time I have ever seen something other than Tour De France or an American race on network TV.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

I heard something last year, either the existing, or a new sports president for NBC was a big cycling fan. So that's probably got a lot to do with it.

Farmese-Vini needs to go back to the black shorts. Ilike the jerseys well enough, even if they are neon yelow, but the matching neon shorts is just a big much. Sears the retinas in the eyes.

C'mon, rufus, its Italian style!

And everyone's gonna get to see it when Guardini wins the stage today!

EDIT: On Eurosport, they just assessed Guardini's chances today by saying:"He'll fancy his chances today, especially today as he can't climb over a postage stamp."

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Taylor had to work very hard to keep the jersey today. Since Cav didn't even crack the top 5 after winning with the time bonus looks like he will have the jersey till the TTT.
