Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Agostino seems to have that self-confidence that Backman had. I think he'll develop into another great offensive weapon. Root was done a good job centering the fourth line, plus you can't misspell releliation without 'eli.' Bourbonais is our current favorite frosh, the CT native has already proven to a potent goal-scorer. Peltz has amazing hair--can't wait see it flowing out from under his helmet.

My biggest issue with yesterday's game was all Yale's skating with their heads down--which let to several nasty, legal, hits. Some of it was the 'F' yer buddy' passes, as my Ingalls neighbor called them, but they've got to do better.

But Yale continues to not just score goals but score beautiful goals: tic-tac-toe passing, major deking and blasts from the points.

Did anybody else notice Ed Maturo behind the Quinnipiac bench? Just didnt look right.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Rankings at this point of the season mean nothing, but if you teams is ranked higher than it has ever been before, I think that deserves a mention.
The question is how high will Yale rise tomorrow?

Looking at how teams ahead of them did this weekend:
1. Miami (lost to Ferris State Friday, tied on Saturday)
2. Minnesota-Duluth (lost to UND Friday, beat them Saturday)
3. BU (tied Maine Saturday)
4. BC (lost to UNH Friday).

I say 4th, but could be 3rd. I believe we have been 4th before, 3rd however would be a first ever I think.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I like your thinking about being third ranked nationally, but Yale has only played four games. I think the raters will take a wait and see attitude until after this western weekend for Yale. Fourth is a good bet though IMO. If they run the table out west, and a couple of the powers above falter again , you may see some substantial movement next week. I wish I could have made the games this past weekend, giving Q a little hope and then crushing them is not a pretty way to win, but I am sure leaves Q doubting.

Looking at those results, Miami has to fall out from first, BU or UMD will be 1st. BC will drop below us. I'm guessing 3rd--probably this order:

1.) UMD
2.) BU
3.) Yale
4.) Miami
5.) BC

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

In the INCH rankings Yale was 7th last week and moved up to 4th. I would say 4th in the new USCHO rankings monday. I can't see Miami dropping too far.

Hey JS Tigers,

Is the CC-Yale game going to be televised? I caught CC v DU on one of those crazy Fox Sports Channels. Hoping to have a better source than the B2 BS.

Thanks!

Unfortunately Fox rarely shows CC hockey unless they are playing Minnesota or playing at Denver, so this game will not be televised. That is a real shame because after watching CC dismantle Denver last weekend on the Olympic ice, I think if both teams are playing well, Yale vs CC could be one of the more entertaining games either fanbase sees this year.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Yale is no. 3 in the latest USCHO rankings. Congratulations, I don't think I can argue with that. As an ECAC fan, I'd like to see one of our teams get to a Frozen Four one day. If it can't be Union, then I have no problem with Yale (why not both?). I've been favorably impressed with all that Allain has accomplished during his tenure but I am concerned that if Yale advances to the NCAAs which seems a given, that traditonal playoff hockey of low scoring, tight checking games, may not be their style. It's easy to point at the goaltending, but if you play a rock and roll type of game, any goalie is going to be hung out to dry at least a few times. This is not meant as a criticism of Yale's style, but as a topic of discussion.

BC plays a run and gun game and has won 2 championships in the last three years playing that style. Just sayin' ;)

Bummer, thanks for the info.

I wonder if I can convince a local bar to carrying the game from the B2 feed. Maybe Mory's? It would be a shame not to get to watch a great matchup with other fans.

That would be GREAT! If you convince someone, let us know! Meanwhile, is it possible to subscribe to a videofeed over the internet?

Difference with BC is that they have small and feisty forwards but huge and puck moving d-men. It's a bit different for Yale where everyone is small ;)

So, I called Anna Liffey's and it turns out the owner is a fan of the team. He said they would broadcast the game on one of their large-screens. I'm going to test it out with him sometime this week, but I think we'll be good to go.

Anna Liffey's is at 17 Whitney Ave., New Haven, CT 06510. http://www.annaliffeys.com/

Game starts at 9pm on Saturday.

When did Anna Liffeys get TVs? Haven't been there in about eight years, but always loved that they DIDN'T have them. Always felt like a true Irish pub (or what I imagined a real Irish pub to be).

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

That's terrific! At the real risk of sounding ungrateful for this real achievement, any chance we can get AL's to broadcast Friday night's game? I think the CC game on Friday promises more fireworks than the Air Force game on Saturday.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Sure excited to watch the Yale at CC game Saturday. Yale is a great team and CC will need to play their best hockey in order to win. Nice to see the Yale team off to a great start. Good times for Yale fans!!

Cheers!

Sorry - calendar impaired. CC game is Saturday, Air Force game is Sunday.

Yale might be the best team we see all season. Up until the dismantling of DU Saturday night, I had this game written off as a blowout loss for our Tigers. Now I think it could be a very entertaining game.

I took a brief look at the Yale team roster and noticed at least two, maybe three of the Yale players are age 24!! And the rest of the team appears pretty mature too. Don't tell the CC players they will be playing against men!!
