Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

For some reason I busted out the old film camera at last weekend's scrimmage. I couldn't find any high speed film but I got some nice shots nonetheless. They can be found here:

Licwinko;

I met you in Worcester last March; this is a great thing you've
created here. Hold down the fort this weekend; I'm flying in on 11/2.... in time
for the Lady Bulldogs v. the Lady Friars. Down to NYC on 11/3 and 11/4 for my
annual Broadway fix (some guy named Pacino in The Merchant of Venice), then to
The Whale for the Tigers and Bobcats. I'll have my camera with me. Keep up the good work.
Go Bulldogs!

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

And we are off.....

and just like that Yale already looks to be, dare I say, faster than ever.
Final score Yale 7- Brown 4.

Brief summary: Brown goes up 3-1 after four goals scored in ~3 minutes during a Yale 5 minute major (1 Yale shorty, 1 Brown 5-3, and 2 Brown PP goals). Kearney then with the next 3 goals, and Yale never looked back.

Goaltending will be an issue. As will our size.
But speed and open ice skills are likely to carry this team a long way.

Issues?

The goaltending was good tonight. I was very pleased with the way Malcolm played. The first goal was a softy. The second he was screened on. The third would have been a very tough save, and on the fourth he lost his glove.
Also, Yale's size is just part of their game. If anything I'd say its an advantage. Little, O'neill, Limbert, Martin, and Peel are great players. Size doesn't hold BC back.

In addition, I thoght that Freshman, Gus Young looked great. That is, until he was injured. Hopefully it's not too serious.

All in all, I thought the Bulldogs played a solid game.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I was at the game this evening and was pleased with the result and the play of Yale. Brown is still a very good opponent and they gave Yale a good scare in the first period, of course the result of penalties which were called very much anti Yale this evening, Testa never treats Yale fairly IMO. If someone could enlighten me as to actually what Cahill did to deserve a game misconduct, i would appreciate it, I was indisposed in the latrine during the incident. The offense was very good, very similar to last season, I thought the freshman Jessie Root was at least a step behind his teammates though, any rookie would be anyway so my complaint is moot. Kearney. Oneil and Little were awesome, Kearney actually scored a goal from the opponents goal line from the corner, it was a blistering wrist shot that curved behind Browns excellent netminder. Another constant from last season was that Yale outshot Brown 40-20. I also missed the young injury, hope he is OK. Who are we playing on Saturday?

Young's injury looked pretty serious... I'm a bit worried to be honest. It looked like it could have been a broken arm or a dislocated/separate shoulder by the way he landed into the boards and skated off the ice.

Young has great on-ice vision. He made some nifty passes and seems like he has good offensive acumen. It'll be a blow to the team if he's lost long-term.

Looked like a shoulder by the way he went down the tunnel.

Yale looked very, very quick. As impressive as Kearney and Little continue to be, O'Neill and Mason caused Brown fits. If Yale gets those kind of contributions (including those that don't show up on teh stat-sheet), they are a no-question 20-win team this year.

An earlier poster said that Malcolm looked okay. He really didn't have an opportunity to get into a rhythm in the first period - since he had faced one shot in the first ten minutes and then suddenly saw the Brown powerplay. He was fighting the puck a bit - and Yale obviously has some work to do with their D, since Martin, Matszak and Peel literally rotated every other shift (even if that was partially caused by the Young injury). Other than that, it didn't appear to be a first game for the Bulldogs.

Wow. That is one fun team to watch.
No doubt we are all in for a treat this year, and I'm sure it won't take long for this team to get some serious national attention. I'm not sure there is another team with the offensive skills that Yale has.

The one thing that's immediately noticeable about the team is how incredibly well conditioned everyone is and the effort every player gives on every shift. Allain has this team completely buying into the system and it's completely reflected in the confidence with which the team plays. This team can skate with anyone. I'll take that.

Oh, and O'Neil's toe drag on that goal in tight tonight was awesome.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Whoa-- Brad Mills played for the NJ Devils tonight in what, I believe, was his NHL debut. He did nothing and only played 5 minutes, but I'm very happy for him.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

For those of us who "live and die" for our favorite college hockey team, there comes a time when that is secondary. And that time came to Pioneer fans this weekend.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — University of Denver center Jesse Martin sustained three neck fractures in Saturday night's hockey game at North Dakota and was transferred to a Minneapolis hospital this morning where doctors are deciding if emergency surgery is required to relieve swelling of the spinal cord, the player's father said.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I know it's a couple of weeks away, but I am wondering if any Yale fans are planning to attend the weekend in Colorado against CC and Air Force. I will be at both games. I was on the east coast for the last couple seasons and have seen Yale quite a bit, so I would love to have beer or two and talk some hockey with anyone coming to these games. I have a ton of respect for your team and I think that weekend will be filled with some great hockey, along with some very gifted student-athletes from all three schools.

I can reciprocate the offer next time you're back east, but I won't be in CO.

I was very pleased to see Yale schedule a game against a western powerhouse for, if nothing else, the experience.

I'm excited to see Yale at CC on the Olympic sized ice sheet. With the speed of these two teams, it should make for some very entertaining hockey. Looks like this is a down year for CC, and I think Yale is a much better team right now, but it should be fun either way.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Heard Gus Young separated his shoulder, but should only miss 2 weeks. Could be worse.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Just separated is not too bad. I heard maybe dislocation which may be worse, I am not a doctor though.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

What about Mason? He went off early Saturday night, though he wasn't anywhere near the condition Young was in.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

OK only 2 days to get those picks in for the ECAC Pick The Standings Contest.
