Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Thought this might be of interest was on ebay earlier today and noticed some new Yale athletics jackets.

I know when we ordered them through the Brown Hockey Assoc they were very popular - just happened upon them and thought I'd pass it on if anyone is interested.

Good luck for the upcoming season looking forward to the match up at the Ivy shootout.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Did anyone notice this update to the schedule?
Dec. 29 Russian Touring Team (exhib.) 7:00 PM
Any ideas on what this Russian Touring Team is and what it will be made up of? It obviously is not the Russian Junior Team as they will have been in Buffalo/Niagara for close to a week at that point.

I think offensively, despite the losses, we should still be very strong. Defensively is a huge question though. D on last years team was pretty weak against good opponents and the best two players from that unit are gone. Hopefully, this Gus Young kid will be a good player. Also, somebody seriously needs to step up between the pipes. My guess is that Maricic or Malcolm will win the job. If a goalie can have a big year, it will really cover up weaknesses in the D, like Alec Richards' play did in his senior year.

I was speaking with my father about the goaltending this past week, with a solid goaltender they easily were off to Detroit last year. And I do hope it is one goalie that steps up and takes the reins, no more three goalie rotations.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

In alumni news, I was excited to turn on the Devils' preseason game versus the Rangers and see Brad Mills skating for NJ. Of course he did trip over the blue line on his first shift, but that possession led to a goal.

Oh, excellent. He also knocked Avery to the ice, unfortunately Avery got up.

I received this email today from the Athletic Department regarding season tickets but it has some info on the schedule as well.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

There does seem to be confusion. The Yale Hockey site schedule indicates a scrimmage on Oct. 22nd and TBD on the 23rd. The Dartmouth site schedule indicates a scrimmage at Yale on Sunday the 24th.

I suspect that the memo from the Athletic Ticket department quoted by ESundy36 below is probably the most current information.

I have a text message into someone who should know or should be able to get the most current information. I will pass along what I learn. We were planning on being there for the scrimmages on Friday and Saturday, but may have to alter our reservations depending on which of the days that the scrimmages will actually be held.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I am computer illiterate and having trouble figuring out how to create a new post under the new format. Forgive me for responding to my ealier post. The new schedule is out for the scrimmages, and it has been confirmed as accurate by someone in the know. The only scrimmage will be against Dartmouth on Saturday the 23rd.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I'm very excited to get a look at the Bulldogs and have some questions answered. Where will Cahill fit in? Has anyone stepped up in net? Is this freshman class as talented as its resume boasts? Will the unknown Otto get some icetime? Who will have the best hockey hair?

Hopefully on Saturday, questions will become answers.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I just hope there are no remnants of those awful playoff haircuts that were sported for the ill fated Brown series.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Yale 5 - Dartmouth 1. 2-0 after the first, and Yale looked very good. Little, Kearney and Cahill only played the first period. 2-1 after the second period, and Yale looked poor in that period. Yale came out very strong in the third and outscored Dartmouth 3-0.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Thanks for the report Professor, I could not make the game and you were the only source I could find for a score or recap. A question for the group, why do some Ivy teams get to start the season earlier than others, ie Colgate?

Other than the fact that Colgate isn't an Ivy?

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I got to the scrimmage late, towards the end of the second. Did Trentowski and Martin skate at all? Was Malcolm in net for the first period?

Keith rolled 7 defensemen throughout the game. Whichever two were up went on the power play or penalty kill. Trentowski and Martin both skated in all three periods. Both looked good. Each goalie played a period, and I am embarassed to confess that I don't recall which goalie played in which period. The common thread is that each of them were leaving to many rebounds out front rather than covering up or re-directing the puck to the corner.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Thanks, Prof. I can attest to Rondeau in the second and Maricic in the third.

Can't wait for Friday!

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

According to the Texas Stars website, Backman has played in all 4 games and has one goal so far in the young season.
