Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

It wasn't a pity post at all. Yale will be just fine. They actually played well Sunday night for the most part, but they ran into a team that was angry over their loss to CC, and put everything they had into the game, and Yale also looked a bit worn down by halfway through the 3rd period. I don't think most people understand how tough AFA can be to play against, and this game was not really an issue of Yale not playing well, it was more an issue of AFA playing with discipline (which Yale did not) and an unbelievable work ethic. They smashed Yale in the mouth and made them work for (and pay for) every inch of space. AFA also got some great goaltending, and Yale did not.

My point is that this is just one game. Chances are, Yale would beat AFA 4 out of 5 times they played (or even 9 of 10), but this was that ONE for AFA.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I would be happy to tie Yale this Friday. They seem like a solid team with A Plan; we're still thrashing about and will be into at least January.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I just noticed Friday nights game is on CBS College Sports. I believe alot of the providers around here get that!

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Nice game by Yale last night, watched on CBS and they started out slow, almost a continuation of the AF performance with stupid penalties. they slowly picked up speed and dominated from the second half of the second period to the end. They got back to the forechecking game that they have become known for. Nothing spectacular about the game except for Rondeaus goaltending and Root's goal off of a steal which was stellar. A nice workmanlike win.

A recap and some thoughts on last night:

After a first period in which Cornell really set the tempo and kept the Bulldogs from playing their game, Yale took control over the last two period and earned another ECAC victory.

Early penalties put the Red up a man for the majority of the game’s opening 5 minutes. Yale was able to kill off the disadvantage, but it prevented Blue from getting into its game. On cue, as the CBS College Sports commentators were touting Rondeau’s numbers, Cornell scored on the power play, taking a 1-0 lead late in the first. Cornell would convert on yet another power play in the second, sparking serious concern about the Yale penalty kill.

One reason Yale was only down one goal at the first intermission was the fantastic glove of Rondeau. He made several spectacular saves early on while Yale was struggling to find its game. Certainly some of the finest goaltending Yale has had in while.

Other positives include the play of Miller, who controlled the puck well with hard work and heady plays. Ziegler, Root, O’Neill and Kearney also had strong games. But highlighting some players is a little unfair because the whole team really played great for the latter half of the game.

Rondeau, Yale wins 6-4, from the stats looked like a chippy game. Agostino had a two goal night. Yale only out shot Colgate by two shots.

I was at the game in Hamilton, although I arrived with about 7 minutes to go in the first period (Yale was leading 3-1 at the time).

I would say that Colgate outplayed us for 35 of the last 40 minutes of the game. The exception was a five minute burst in the second period when we scored three goals. Otherwise, Colgate really came at us, particularly in the third period. Our guys looked kind of spent at that point. As Keith said, a win on the road is good no matter what the circumstances, and I suppose he is correct, although I couldn't help but wonder if I was watching a similar pattern to the Air Force game.

Rondeau looked fine and I think we are on our way....

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

It's always nice to get 4 points on the road. hopefully they show no mercy to Sacred Heart on Tuesday.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I agree with your analysis...... for the most part. I'm puzzled as to why you left out Broc Little; his game-tying goal was an absolute highlight-reel
gem. The pass from Denny Kearney was one of the finest assists I've seen in college hockey in a LONG time. And, as you may have noticed, when Little gets the puck
in the slot, he knows what to do with it. Broc also had an assist on Ziegler's GWG. Not bad for a guy that was being targeted and mauled (and SPEARED by #15 R. Craig) all
night.

C'mon, doc! it was subtle but there.

Like I said, it was a tremendous team effort that every player contributed to. But on that Little goal, I put the pass above the finish. I should have mentioned Laganiere too, but I can't spell his name.

I saw none of the Colgate game, so if anyone can elaborate on the game especially elihockeyfan, please do.

Thanks!

Yale ranked number three again in both polls. Anyone going to the game tomorrow, thinking about taking it in.

It should be a fun game--although I can't help remembering that game against UAH a few years back when Yale couldn't beat the keeper and lost 0-1 on a shortie.

I'll be there--section 104. Stop by and 'hello.'

Another win. Against an opponent who gave all they had. SC had some good players And skated well with Yale
Another nice win

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I went to the Sacred Heart game last night and have a few observations. In passing let me say it was nice to see CJ back at Ingalls if on the wrong side of the ice. His guys were outmanned but they never gave up and were able to apply some real pressure the last half of the game.

Here's what I saw:

- I've been watching Yale hockey closely for about 12 years, and I have never seen the team play better.
- Yes, they are winning, and we've seen some of that before, but its the way they are playing which distinguishes this team.
- They are breaking out of the defensive zone successfully and they are getting shots in the offensive zone.
- The defense is solid and they are not making the kind of individual mistakes that have haunted us.
- The opponents are getting fewer shots and, importantly, fewer quality shots.
- The D is regularly getting down and blocking shots.
- They are playing physical, but not stoopid physical with the resulting penalties that have haunted us.
- Rondeau may not be brilliant but he is solid stopping the shots he has to stop. He is not letting in the multiple softies that have haunted us.
- There is no noticeable reduction in skill across the four lines.
- Some of the guys are brilliant - - you see flashes of exceptional speed, puckhandling, passing, skating and shooting -- but more importantly, the whole team just seems competent. I didn't see a single guy who didn't look like he belonged out there.

I don't want to get ahead of myself and start imagining where this could all lead. But if the team keeps its head and keeps playing this kind of hockey it will be fun to watch.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Anybody know why Anderson was out last night? Hopefully not anykind of injury.
Also nice to see Gus Young back in the line-up, he may be an important guy through out the year.

Can anybody who was at the game settle an arguement?? On Yale's first goal they scored during a delayed penalty to Sacred Heart, but they still gave the SH player a penalty and Yale a power play. Box score doesnt help me figure this out.
Anyone?

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

under the new rules the penalty has to be surved even though there is a goal scored on the delay.

A harsh new rule penalize the team that just got scored on? It is a rule
