Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

They changed the rule this year
A delayed penalty still goes into effect even if a goal is scored

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Watching the Rangers Panthers game, I see two familiar faces. Chris Higgins and Joe Callahan are both playing for the Panthers.

Didn't make it to the Whale last night (on call at YNHH) however from the boxscore appears Yale came out fast again, slowed in the 2nd period, and then this time was able to re-take the lead and hang on in the end.

We have a big one Sunday on ESPN-U vs. Union. A win here would be a great way to cap off our 2010 ECAC schedule before heading into 2011. Glad to see we get another shot at Vermont as well this coming Wednesday having been beaten by them twice in past 2 years.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Yale got their butts kicked last night by a very physical and great defensive team. They were fortunate to come away with the win. If a better offensive team chooses to play RPI's style against Yale, they will be in trouble. Higgins played a great game. Rondeau is having trouble with stuff from the point, probably screened but I did not see the goals well as I was at the other end. Yale did a good job not retaliating against RPI's hits after the whistle.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I somewhat disagree with you LT... Although RPI was a lot more physical than Yale which may poise a problem with other teams, Yale still dominated the game. RPI really had no threats other than their two goals (which were both scored from point shots). RPI did a fantastic job blocking shots which is why the shots were not more lopsided in my opinion. All in all I thought Yale carried the play throughout the game, especially in the first and third periods.

Great all around game by the Bulldogs today. The defense has been excellent and the key to the game was the shutdown of Unions 2 minute long 5-3 powerplay. The O'Neil goal to start things off was a thing of beauty. Four assists for Miller, two goals for Cahill. Rondeau played very well in a game where he was really tested. Union looked good, but every shot and pass were contested by the Yale defense. Team speed was also a major factor in Yale's favor.

Agreed, although it seemed to me that we sniffed out Union's PP to perfection. They were always looking for the cross pass to the half boards from the point after moving the forward (Kearney for most of the PK) toward the point, but the d-man (Matczek, I think?) did a great job of preventing the pass from happening and tipped the pass away. Union was trying to be too pretty on that entire PP and they paid for it by swinging the momentum of the game completely to Yale.

I'm pumped for this team. So much depth.

Just hope you know I was talking about tequila, I have visions of a black Cadillac with Arizona plates serving me slander papers!

Have to disagree to some extent here. Yale dominated the game in puck possession, which is what ultimately decreased the offensive threat from RPI (it's hard to score or even shoot when you don't have the puck), but the Engineers certainly had plenty of offensive threats during the game, especially in second period right after their first goal in which they almost tied it up right away. If I had to pick a period in general in which Yale "carried play" it would have been the second period for the first 17 minutes or so. Besides that segment, the game was mostly about RPI's penalties, Yale's puck control, and the Engineers' physical play, especially in the neutral zone towards their end. They gummed up Yale's outstanding transition for much of the game, forcing them to earn every inch of ice between the center red line and the faceoff dots in the RPI zone, especially at the blue line. While Yale did hold the puck for much of the game, the RPI defense, especially at 5-on-5, did a fantastic job of mitigating that by forcing the Bulldogs to change their approach in the attacking zone through physical play and blocked shots. I was even more impressed given the fact that RPI was missing four key players to injuries.

All around it was a great game to be at and I can only imagine what the return in Troy will be like, especially since it's the annual Freakout. Yale has a phenomenal team and I enjoyed watching them operate, especially on the power play. By far the best power play I've seen in a few years, anywhere.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I have to say Yale being the number one team in the country is such an amazing feat considering where this program was just five years ago. Granted I was just five years old when my dad took me to my first game twenty years ago but I never though I would see the day where the Eli's were the talk of the nation. I just hope the team comes out blazing on Wednesday night, not letting the ranking go to their head, and finish off the pre-Winter Break schedule with a bang.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

As much as it pains me to write this, congrats to the Eli for being ranked #1 in the country. Being a Harvard fan, it almost feels like Bizzaro Jerry from Seinfeld where Yale is #1 and Harvard is, well, at the bottom of the barrel. A world gone mad I guess. But nonetheless, you guys deserve to be ranked where you are and I truly hope you represent the ECAC in the Frozen Four finale. Then you'll know what we Harvard fans felt in '89. It's a great feeling.

Thanks for the kind words! Don't worry, the Yale AD still charges us extra for Harvard games, so they must be doing something right. I hope we reach those heights that you mentioned, I may take a ride up to the game at Harvard in January.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Don't worry, they're still not the talk of the nation. Just ask the WCHA.

Hahaha, isn't it fantastic that Yale is ranked #1 for the first time ever and all of us Yale fans can't even celebrate it. Everyone from out west is so bitter that a team from the East, and god forbid not from their beloved WCHA conference, is actually the best in the nation. The best part is that we get to watch this team every weekend and we truly know what the Bulldogs can do. All this bashing of Yale makes me more excited for the tournament to roll around.
