Worst Frozen Four Ever

Re: Worst Frozen Four Ever

Not sure if this is a response to what I said earlier, but are you going to deny that BC was head and shoulders better than the competition at the Frozen Four? It has nothing to do with being a "sore winner", I'm just stating facts.

A little class, Boston boy, is all that is asked. It's all fine and dandy if you think this, but rubbing it in is being a "sore winner". Respect for the opponent is apparently very limited on the east coast. I'd watch out, because Karma could be a b*tch.

Re: Worst Frozen Four Ever

Child, please.

That's like some Tampa Rays fan talking smack about how great the AL East is.

AL East = Yankees, Red Sox, usually sucky teams
Hockey East = BC, BU, usually sucky teams

.

child please,

ummmm, besides the Beanpot, BU really needs to be considered one of the sucky teams, if Maine and UNH do. WHile WHitehead has been busy driving Maine into the ground, he has been to how many frozen 4's since Walsh Died... compared to BU's 1

do your math

just because hell likely delete this post later.

Re: Worst Frozen Four Ever

Yes, Ford Field was a horrible venue for the Frozen Four.

However, Nicole was awesome...

I didn't say anything negative about any of the other teams in the FF. They were all great teams (as usual in the FF) and should be proud of getting where they did. However, saying BC was a far superior team is a fair statement.

People complained that the games were boring and the one reason was the lopsided score.

Re: Worst Frozen Four Ever

This was my 7th FF in a row. By far these were the best seats I've had. Usually I'm half way up in the upper bowl, corner. I was in row 15 behind that sieve in the badger jersey for 2 periods. The place had about as many fans as you could get with the set up they used. The place was loud for every game,....until the scores got out of control. Wisconsin looked big and fast vs RIT, but just big vs BC. BC looked fast in both games.

I heard a lot of people sitting around me say "this is awesome". Obviously not the aficionados of hockey that post here. I'm not proposing that we play all games, or even more games on football feilds. But, this FF was not the disaster that many people expected or wanted it to be. Yes, the NC$$ will say this was a success. It was! Over 70,000 for the 2 days, and I'm sure they will state that over and over until it gets broke by another FF on a football feild.

Worst Frozen Four Ever

Are we talking here about the venue or the competition? First, I'm against playing the NCAA final four at a non-hockey building. I was at the Cincinnati melt-down held at an autorium. When drilling the holes to set the pins for the nets, a worker drilled into a cooling tube. When the doors opened to the public, I walked in to see a group of "suits" surrounding a guy with a fire extinguisher and thought "hmmmmmmm, this can't be good". With the pressure of televising live within a coupl of hours, they were near panic! They got the first game in "OK", but almost lost it for the nightcap. The players, coaches, and fans deserved better conditions for a national championship. Same with the ice conditions at Ford Field. Without the proper heavy equipment, they were't able to control the humidity, and I felt for the Badger player when he tried to go alone on the BC goalie, only to have the puck hit a rut and pop up over his stick. Unless they can solve the sight lines & ice conditions issues, you won't see this hockey puck at such a venue.

Re: Worst Frozen Four Ever

I did see a guy from the NCAA prior to Saturday's game (up by Guest Services and the inside ticket window) and told him what a terrible fiasco the riser seats were. I also told him that they should never hold the Frozen Four in a football arena again. There were many other irate fans there, trying to arrange for better seats, telling him the same thing.

Have to agree with this statement. This was the worst FF I've attended, and I've seen games in the Winter Sports Arena and the DECC. If the NCAA decides to have the Frozen Four at another football/baseball stadium I will NOT be attending. The NCAA accomplished their mission to fleece the hockey fans and set a meaningless attendance record.
I can't believe the people setting up this fiasco didn't have the foresight to have people stand in the players bench area to see how the riser seats view would be. It was funny watching the people head to those seats and as soon as the players got to the benches there was a mass exit like someone farted in the area. :D
I just wish someone would've told the NCAA that viewing a hockey game is different than a basketball game.

For those that said this will help promote the sport I disagree. The venue was a huge disappointment for a championship event.

The expansion of hockey games to football/baseball stadiums has to be a once every few years novelty item. The NHL's winter classic was awesome the first time they did it, but doing it every year has somewhat cheapened the event. This year we had a game at Fenway and a game at Camp Randall...both of which are fine for the novelty of the game...but they shouldn't be playing the most important games of the year on a makeshift rink.

I was glad Gary Thorne said what he did towards the end of the game...that the Frozen Four is too important to do something like they did in Detroit.

Re: Worst Frozen Four Ever

MY idea, thank you very much :D

I am nicknaming Nicole "Rim Job Nicole" after she failed and called a shot off the post "off the rim".

Just to set the record straight, her name is Erin Nicole. Nicole is her last name. SHe does the in-house hosting thing at Pistons games, I think.

I was glad Gary Thorne said what he did towards the end of the game...that the Frozen Four is too important to do something like they did in Detroit.

He mentioned it twice in the 1st period as well. Then made a sarcastic comment about "how beautiful" it looked to be playing hockey on a half-covered football field. I give Thorne credit for representing what seems to be the lions share of fans who didn't like this idea from the get-go, and also the ones who gave it a fair shake and didn't like it either.

One interesting thing on the ice conditions was how BAD it apparently was on Wednesday. Had the weather not cooperated and they ended up with ice like it was the day prior to the event, it's entirely possible we would've had another Cinci on our hands.

Unless the NCAA wants to, as has been put, fleece the traveling college hockey fans who go to the FF every year and establish another "who cares" attendance record, there's no good reason to ever go this route again...

We are hockey purists and want our event held on the best possible ice, with the best sightlines and loudest possible crowd noise. That's what we want. We are hockey fans, and we expect the NCAA to honor our wishes.

But the NCAA looks at this with a wider viewpoint than we do as pure hockey fans. They also want to make more money, enable more access and gain larger exposure for the sport, beyond just haveing good playing conditions.

Money wise, I expect this will clear a good profit as it always does. Even with the extra expenses, they should be offset by increased attendence.

From an access standpoint, the event did offer an opportunity for about 20,000 new people to get in and see the event that probably would not have seen it live had it been held in a hockey arena, That's also a net positive. Some of those people will have had a bad experience, but I'm sure it would be no different than those who watch NCAA hoops in domed stadium.

Finally from an exposure standpoint, it was a mixed bag. The semis looked kind of half-empty and dismal, but the final looked pretty full. I think the NCAA will tout the record crowd as proof-positive that bigger venues are a future option for the tourney, and it will draw some crdibility as a growing event.

All in all, I don't think the event will be seen as a failure. I think it will be seen as a moderate success (with some warts, to be sure).

Re: Worst Frozen Four Ever

3) It is spelled "SIOUX" and once you learn that and learn to respect the name, I will have no respect for people who make fun of it. (I certainly do not like the University of Illinois, but I do not make fun of any Native American names by altering them or saying "______ sucks" or "F the _____".)

QFT

and, this is the best reason of all that getting rid of the sue nickname was the right thing to do. Everyone is required, no, demanded to respect the correct spelling of "SIOUX" , or else this twit will not respect you, yet every other sue fan on uscho gets to make fun, and never respects anyone else's team, or mascot, etc or correct spelling. what a self righteous bigot, and I am happy a complete hypocrite like you lost your racist nickname, you deserve it. This guy has probably been throwing dead gophers, badgers, and wolverines on Uncle Ralph's nazi ice for decades, but geez, if you misspell "soiux" just once, you suck.
