(Younger soccer after learning five early morning group stage games at the Euros are only available on Fubo): This is an outrage! It is ridiculous that I would have to pay all this additional money to watch every game!

(Me, an older fan who remembers when, in the 90’s and early 2000’s, the Euros and Copa America were only available on pay-per-view and Gold Cup matches had no English language coverage and were only available on obscure Univision sub channels): Oh no! Anyway…

The culture on Reddit around watching sports is insane. Or really consuming any media. There is a significant chunk of people who apparently believe entertainment should be free. I mean, don't get me wrong, local blackouts suck, I hate how much more expensive the standalone RSN streaming service is when it isn't subsidized with other cable subscribers, and it's annoying how many different platforms things are being broadcast on. On the latter it's not just the cost, but also essentially being locked into that game because you can't channel surf when something is on Peacock or Paramount, if you want to flip to something else you have to load a new app.

But at the same time, no one says you have to have all of them at once. Get Netflix for a month and watch the new show that just dropped, then do the same with Apple or Max if cash is that tight. But so many people seem to say the companies are just being greedy and go and torrent everything. There's also a concerning amount of people who don't seem to know that OTA exists. I see a lot of comments about how they can't watch because such and such game is on ABC. And I know some places don't get great reception or any reception for local affiliates, but I'm pretty sure it's just people who grew up so used to cable or streaming that they literally just don't know there's literally free tv floating in the air that you just have to plug in an antenna to get.

There was an interesting article a few years ago where the reporter talked to a lot of young consumers mentioning how they can get free TV with an antenna. Most of them thought that was illegal. I kid you not. They had no idea...

For all the easy access we have to soccer nowadays, it’s become forgotten that this is a recent (like >20 years) phenomenon. Outside of the World Cup and select matches from various leagues like MLS and Liga MX, it really only goes back to the 2010’s. Yeah there were specialty channels like Fox Sports World/Fox Soccer and GolTV but they usually only one live game per matchday.

Regular coverage of the Euros goes back to maybe 2004, I think it was really 2008.

Copa America coverage came later, 2015 at the earliest, likely 2016.

The Gold Cup had no English language coverage until 2007. And even then it was only USMNT matches. Full tournament wasn’t available in English until 2013.

Champions League coverage was one match per round on ESPN (if they had space) until Fox took over around 2010? 2011? Maybe even 2012.

EPL coverage was 1-3 live matches on FSW/FS until 2010 when ESPN took over, even then most matches were on ESPN3.

I always astound my younger coworkers describing this. To most of them it’s a foreign concept not being able to watch any match they want.

Peru and Chile engaged in a classic "two lower ranked CONMEBOL teams spending 90 minutes kicking the **** out of each other and not much else" match.

Serbs are not innocent but genocidal chants are genocidal chants and Albania and Croatia should be in line for some punishment. Apparently Serbia is threatening to pull out of the tournament if UEFA doesn’t do anything real quick.

Until that 96th minute goal they were looking to take care of that themselves

It seems like the major issues being discussed about Copa America, the grass issues and ticket prices, are largely the fault of CONMEBOL doing the organizing themselves instead of relying on local sources.

Like, not installing the grass until a couple of days before the games is a boneheaded decision that a competent organization like SUM would've told you would go wrong.

Fox should be taken off the air for subjecting us to the verbal terrorism that is Alexi Lalas and Carli Lloyd.

Croats: genocidal chants.

Serbs: actual genocide.

The Serbs can DIAF.

You dont know what the hell you are talking about. Before you espouse such hateful rhetoric, you might want to educate yourself about what happened to ethnic Serbs and Bosniacs at the hands of Croatian nationalists and Franjo Tudman's government.
As for Albania, in Kosovo Serbs and Albanians took turns in political oppression and the KLA had plenty of blood on its own hands.

Ethnic violence in the Balkans has been filled with willing participents from all factions (though perhaps the Bosniacs may be excluded from that verdict) and a lot of innocent people from all groups suffered.

The suggestion (even as a joke, giving you the benefit of the doubt) that it is just fine for chants about killing an ethic group filled a stadium at the Euros is fucking bonkers and suggests you really need to check yourself.

USMNT up 2-0 on Bolivia at halftime, we now go to back to the Fox Sports studio so we can see how Lalas and Lloyd will turn this into a negative…

USMNT wins 2-0 to start off Copa America.

I'm sure this will be spun as something bad for Gregg Berhalter.

And Joe Biden.

Nothing bad, but I would have even more confidence going forward if they had buried 2-3 more of their great setups in the 2nd half. The finishing is still just not quite world class.

All of the other matches have also been pretty tight, so despite the lack of finishing it really wasn't a harm.

Because of the draw and Brazil and Colombia being in the same group, there's not really a huge difference in advancing as first or second. Beat Panama on Thursday to secure advancement then throw on the backups against Uruguay.
