They will. They always do.

What do they do?

They don’t use any technology beyond the cameras and any relevant field markings or cuts. If they can’t prove conclusively one way or another by just looking at it then the call on the field stands. No drawing lines, no funky animations showing a toe ahead.

I think it will for a few months then teams will adjust and scoring will crater yet again.

Funny you mention the trapezoid rule because soccer might need something like that. With the “daylight” rule it likely increases the necessity of having your goalkeeper be a “sweeper keeper” to come out and clear balls that get behind the defensive line.

Personal opinion, though somewhat educated given my experience with as a referee, but the advent of mobile, more involved goalkeepers has done more to inhibit scoring than anything else.
