So Gold Cup rosters got released today. The US is the veritable “Who’s Not” we thought it would be, but Mexico is bringing essentially their A-Team. A huge risk by Tata Martino (in that he gains little by winning but is likely to be fired for losing) but one he may have been forced into by the FMF after losing to the US at the Nations League Final.
Got me thinking, what are the worst National Team jobs out there? Mexico has to be top 3.
1. USWNT. You have to win every game or you’re fired, you have no choice in player selection (thanks to the CBA), and, even if you do win, you can’t parlay that success into something better.
2. England. You’ll be expected to win, hounded by the press and fans over every minute detail, and likely have a player pool that’s nowhere close to being capable of winning.
3. Mexico. Same as England, but with corruption and CONCACAF.
