World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Gotta think the delay after the Gold Cup was spent on lining up his replacement. Also gotta wonder whether this is purely based on results, or if there was either outright loss of part of the locker room or a feeling in some quarters that there was a bit of malaise on the field. Purely on results, it seems like a bad and reactionary move, one that should have been made a year ago or not at all.

Could the timing also have to do with not wanting to steal some thunder from the Women's World Cup team?

Results as in W/L record? I don't know where he stands compared to a Bruce Arena, etc....you guys might have those numbers. But, the biggest problem I've had in Bradley's tenure is that I've seen no evidence of improvement on defense.

Pretty surprising news. For what it's worth, Andres Cantor (GOOOOOOLLLLLL guy) is claiming on Twitter that Marcelo Lippi is getting the job.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Yup. Grant Wahl cites a US Soccer source saying the choice won't be surprising. Looks like Klinsmann it is.

If so, I think that's a mistake, unless he does a lot better with his assistants this time than he did with Bayern.

Jozy is the first USMNT member to say anything:
Yes i heard the news tweet fam and I Wish Bob Bradley nothing but the best in the future.

Rapinoe tweeted:
Knock knock knock mr klinsman, are u out there?

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

I don't mind if we had an actual search and ended up at Klinsmann, but there darn well better have been an actual search.

What are you talking about? His Bayern team finished 2nd in the Bundesliga and was 9-3-2 in Euro tournaments...

ELCAsoccer (the husband) is hoping for Sigi Schmid.

I want Bruce Almighty back.

I don't think either is going to happen.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Sigi has stated he hasn't been contacted but would take it. As a Sounders fan, I don't want Sigi coaching the US.

Trouble is, they were about 20 goals against worse than the team before and after. Coincidentally, defense is our big weakness right now. Ergo, if Klinsmann is the U.S. coach, he's going to have to do better with his assistants than he did with Bayern, as they clearly were well below par at handling the defense.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

If it's Klinsmann; I still favor a Kreis-Klinsmann combo. Analogous to the Jogi Loew-Klinsmann combo for Germany.

Re: his time at Bayern, I certainly won't argue he did a good job. At the same time, I don't think he did such a bad job that it should be a disqualifying factor. I mean, look at Louis van Gaal. The guy won the Champions League with Bayern in 2010 and was (justifiably) out on his rear by spring of 2011. It's a tough place to manage.
