The time to do this is when Marcelo Bielsa was available.

Re: his time at Bayern, I certainly won't argue he did a good job. At the same time, I don't think he did such a bad job that it should be a disqualifying factor. I mean, look at Louis van Gaal. The guy won the Champions League with Bayern in 2010 and was (justifiably) out on his rear by spring of 2011. It's a tough place to manage.
Bayern was the runner up in the CL that year. But still, your point holds.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

What are you talking about? His Bayern team finished 2nd in the Bundesliga and was 9-3-2 in Euro tournaments...
Any one of us here posting on this thread could manage Bayern to a 2nd place finish.

Well at least they walked away from Bradley and didn't ride that tired horse for another cycle. I didn't really understand the move to bring back Bradley after last cycle anyway. Wonder Klinnsmann got the concessions he sought the last few times he was asked?

Based on the fact he's going to be picking most of the lower teams' coaches I thinkhe got what he wanted.

What type of formation does Klinsmann like to use?

Ottmar Hitzfield couldn't. Louis van Gaal couldn't. Giovanni Trappatoni couldn't.

All terrible managers evidently.

A non-traditional 0-11-0 formation.
good because we're deep at midfield! Since this is a soccer thread and all, anyone in the TC area interested in playing some rec league soccer on thursday nights?

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

We plateaued with Bradley and stalled. Making the change is necessary.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

I've always wanted the US to switch to 3-5-2 as their base formation. It takes advantage of our strengths, and doesn't really change the fact that our Defense is average at best.

We have a hard enough time coming up with two good center backs right now, and you want a formation that uses three? Besides which, who do we have that's a good wingback in that system?

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Decent news for the United States in the World Cup draw. CONCACAF drawn with Oceania for the playoffs. US group includes Jamaica and probably Haiti and Grenada/Guatemala. Mexico gets Costa Rica, and then probably El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

I'd be more excited about Klinsmann if he could abduct Jogi Low, who was definitely the brains behind that operation. I fear that all that's left is a bunch of quotes about having fun.

And, Steve Sampson thinks that 0-11-0 is a great idea.
