Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Reports indicate the woman that brought charges against Qatar for bribery has recanted her story.

Gee.... I wonder how she was "convinced" to do that? :D

Not quite the same reaction as to Landon's goal, but still pretty good :)

Besides the team itself (and their families), about 4 other people would have been disappointed.

There were just as many people at work talking about this game as the men's. In fairness obviously the men's team has a bigger draw on average, but this comment misses the mark.

I think people care in the moment, like with most USA national team events. It doesn't mean they actually care.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Reports indicate that Michael Essien is out for 6 months with an ACL tear.

Sucks that he's injured, but I can't cry for Chelski.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

The Villa pursuit of Shay Given has taken on Gen. Franco behavior...Villa has been close to signing Given for the last two weeks. For a deal with no negative commentary etc, it has dragged on with every day the 'signing being imminent'.

Downing continues to be a Villan although it seems the aforementioned 20million might just have them jump up, a la Erika, and wish the 'not for sale' Downing a safe trip to either Arsenal or Liverpool. If they get that 20, they will be buyers with several midfielders named as candidates.

I imagine the printer for Villa is either very rich or consumes a bottle of pepto a day...with all the managerial changes and everything being last minute, changes and rushes must be 90% of the work. At this rate, the opening day squad may not know each other before they run out on the field.

Eh, the ones at home always feel staged after-the-fact. The ones at bars and in public have more of a genuine feel to them.

Edit: And why do all of those show the goal on the left side of the screen? Wasn't it on the right??

They're probably pulling a MySpace and taking images of the mirror.

Half of em are showing the PK that ended the game in the shootout.

So will today be the big let down and a loss to France (France, really?)? Or will they play like they are supposed to and win handily?

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Nice to see that FIFA has its story straight.

Grant Wahl:
To clarify, Fifa rep told ESPN.com Sun Brazil penalty retaken for Solo moving off line. Rep's Fifa bosses told me Tue was for encroachment.

The 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Committee encourages you to cease this line of inquiry immediately.

Welch and Johnson funneled through the committee more than $1 million in gifts to numerous IOC delegates for the 2002 Games - a stunning trove of booty that included cash, college tuition, medical-care payments, jobs, lodging, beds and bedding, bathroom fixtures, Indian rugs, draperies, doorknobs, dogs, leather boots and belts, perfume, Nintendo games, Lego toys, shotguns, a violin, and trips to ski resorts, Las Vegas, and a Super Bowl in Miami. Almost no request from an IOC member went unmet.

Shamed by the scandal - in which 10 members of the International Olympic Committee would resign or be expelled for accepting gifts from the Salt Lake committee - Utah's power brokers believed they needed a new CEO wise in the ways of business, the law, and Mormonism.

Every man has his price, but when your price is a doorknob, you need to reexamine your priorities.

Question on Twitter: How do you plan to celebrate Bastille Day?
My answer: Watch the USWNT beat the stuffing out of France.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

I guess that the US Women didn't take my advice and come out in coal kettle helmets to scare the French off the field.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

France surrendering a goal already? Well.. the French are good at surrendering. :D

I'm tempted to watch online here, but I didn't bring any headphones with me, and technically, this is a shared work computer I'm on.

USA up 1 - nil early according to the gamecast.

That's a really clever joke, I'm surprised that nobody else has made a joke about the French surrendering before today.
