Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Will Arsenal sleep on Braga? They can defend...

Also, why was I unaware that CFR Cluj was from Transylvania?

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Doesn't look like it. Arsenal up 2-0 early after goals by Fabregas and Arshavin. Nice.

Make that 3-0 as Chamakh gets one also.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

At the same time, what do you expect a team like Rangers (or Celtic) to do against a vastly superiour squad? Walter Smith was right in his press conference: the disparity between the teams at the top of England, Spain, Italy and Germany toward the teams who win leagues in smaller nations rules out true competition. Teams like Rangers no longer have the financial ability to sign top-notch players the way they did 10-15 years ago, and as such, they have to play the way that gives them the best chance to get what they can get from a match.

I expect Celtic to lose by 4 goals on the road in Europe, but that's a different rant.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Now 5-0 as Fabregas and Vela add goals. Good day for England, as Chelski up 4-1.

One of my co-workers at one of my jobs is from Romania so he knows about Cluj. (He's a Steuea supporter.) Cluj was bought by some millionaire when they were a 3rd division team. It's remarkable that they have come so far so fast. Opponents better be careful or they will be impaled. :D

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Europa results of note:

A: Red Bull Salzburg 0 - Man City 2 (Silva 8, Jo 63)
A: Juventus 3 - Lech Poznan 3 (at home, Juve?)

D: Dinamo Zagreb 2 - Villareal 0 (Jozy Altidore went 90 for Villareal)

1st half:

K: Liverpool 1 - Steaua Bucharest 1 (J. Cole 1; Tanase 13)

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Awful sending off of Song by Phil Dowd. First yellow replays showed there was no contact, second was very marginal. And then Bramble scythes Wilshire down just outside the box and nothing.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Bob... Martin Atkinson has replaced Mark Clattenburg as the worst referee in the EPL. This game was ridiculous from start to finish capped off by Bent's goal at 94:20..... a good 20 seconds after the whistle should have been blown. Arsenal cleared the ball at 94:00 to 94:05.... to the middle of the pitch. The whistle should have been blown right there...but play is allowed to continue as Sunderland finally weaves the ball through the midfield area to the left channel and then lofted into the box where a couple of Arsenal defenders appear to get to it. You think the whistle will (or has gone), but then it comes free to Bent, who buries it. A laughable last part of the game. But hardly surprising.

The Song yellows were both a joke. There was no handball in the box on Sunderland in the first half and the overall play was ragged by both. I don't know... but I worry every single time I see Atkinson doing an Arsenal game. I NEVER expect a fair shake. It is like you must beat the other team AND you must beat him, too.

Whatever...

It was Martin Atkinson.... not Dowd.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Tottenham's win today was their first EPL win in September in NINE YEARS. Good god, that's awful.

If the season ended today, Everton would be demoted.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Seattle Sounders demolish Columbus 4-0 in Columbus. Me very happy. :)

Man City have never won away at Wigan. Hopefully it's a weekend for making history.

I watched Colorado 3 - Revs 0 and LA 2 - DC 1 last night. The disparity in talent level between New England and LA is striking. SELL THE TEAM BOB KRAFT.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

I'd love to own a soccer team. Except I wouldn't have the patience required for some players and watching my team struggle.

I wouldn't be Dan Snyder, but still.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Q: How long will it take Chelsea to open their account vs. Blackpool?

A: 1:13. Kalou.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

12' Malouda from Drogba.

Who did Chelsea fellate to start the season with West Brom, Wigan, Stoke, West Ham and Blackpool?

Its a rich man's game for a reason... they can afford to be stupid.
