World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

I'm kind of skeptical on the way he's portraying things, it just seems crazy to me that Gulati could have had a deal nearly done with Klinsmann- a guy he's been chasing for years now- and walk away over something relatively miniscule like that.

With egos involved, nothing surprises me.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Fulham at Stoke in the Carling Cup this afternoon. Bleh. Given that it's a road match in a domestic cup and we're probably going to lose regardless, I'd almost rather it be against Arsenal or Everton or Man City or someone else who plays cleanly, so we can at least lose without getting kicked around and risking getting more players hurt in the process.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Spurs-Arsenal today. FSC couldn't pick that up instead of showing an old Spurs-Wolves game?

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Not that there's anything wrong with that:

It would be interesting to see Gulati's side of the argument.

But, considering that a lot of people thought this would be a slam dunk (only to be wrong... again), it only stands to reason that the hurdles in the way would seem rather silly in hindsight.

Interesting that you say that, a decent portion of people I read and talked to seem to think the money would be a major sticking point, thus preventing any sort of slam dunk. But evidently that wasn't really an issue.

Or it was, and Klinsmann just didn't want to paint it that way.

As for Gulati, he's already issued his "No comment" on this story. It's tough for him to address it without kind of throwing Bradley under the bus I think.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

And the north London derby is underway as Spurs and Arsenal square up in the Carling Cup at White Hart Lane. Arsenal has a few more vets than they typically sport in the Carling Cup, but still a lot of youth.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

1-0 to Stoke, Higginbotham on a corner that may or may not have actually gone out off a Fulham player.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Lansbury puts Arsenal up 1-0 on a set-up by Jack Wilshire. Those are some good English names playing for Arsenal.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

2-0 Stoke, both from Schwarzer brain farts on set pieces. Thanks for screwing with his head, Arsenal.

And Moussa Dembele is being taken off on a stretcher deep into second half stoppage time. FU Stoke.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

2 Penalties to Arsenal. The first looked a touch soft. The second there was no doubt on. Samir Nasri scores both, and it's 3-1 Arsenal.

Edit: Arshavin piles on. 4-1 Arsenal.

As an Arsenal fan who has watched multiple players have their careers ended/altered due to bad injuries and awful tackles, I empathise with you.

Good to see Arsenal emphatically dispatch of the Scum in extra time. I'm sure Pat Rice did a nice job with Wenger serving his touchline ban.

I'm not disappointed... with Spurs being able to field an entire lineup of injured players, they were never going to be able to field a full second team squad. They were about 4 deep on the depth chart in places.
