World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Right move by MLS. They must be keeping the balanced schedule w/ Portland and Vancouver coming. Fixture congestion will continue to be an issue, but maybe this will lead to expanded rosters.

Man U - Rangers is the Fox Sports game today.
Twente - Inter is on Fox Soccer.
Bremen - Spurs is on Fox Soccer Plus. And I swear, if Harry trots out that 4-4-2 on the road again...

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Sorry for the double post, but any guesses what "Major Announcement" Toronto is making at 12:30? They already have a SSS that seats 20,000+. Maybe something to do with MLS Cup (they host it this year)?

The coach has been sacked:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2010/09/toronto_fc_fires_preki_and_joh.html

Toronto FC has fired Coach Preki and director of soccer Mo Johnston, and will name assistant Nick Dasovic as the interim coach, the Insider has learned.

The drastic moves comes three days after Toronto (7-10-7) lost at home to MLS bottom-dweller D.C. United, 1-0 -- the club's fifth scoreless performance in six matches. TFC is 1-6-3 in its past 10 league games. The team will play a CONCACAF Champions League match Wednesday at Real Salt Lake.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

you guys used up a lot of juice with the baseball gods to get that ball to roll through Buckner's legs...the offset is substantial;)

Meh, the game was tied at that point.

The real luck in Mets history was us being picked out of the hat for Seaver.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Bremen 0 - Spurs 1

O.G. 12', Crouch would have put in Bale's cross, but the central defender decided to just do it himself.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLLL!

Van der Vaart's cross finds Crouch's head!

2-0 Spurs!

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Not that anyone cares about the cellar of the Championship league...

Crystal Palace 1-1 Portsmouth at halftime.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Apparently, the Satan vs Satan match at Old Trafford is a snoozefest. I might have to turn this off if nothing happens.

I've been watching for 2 minutes, and I really want to slap Wayne Rooney.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

Spurs 2 - Werder Bremen 2. FT.

If you offered it to me this morning I would have been happy. But after that first half hour....

Jermaine Jenas is not suitable as a holding midfielder. He loses the ball under the slightest pressure. Huddlestone isn't the answer, either. Maybe Sandro once he hits the pitch?

Also, Robbie Keane needs to move on to MLS. Way, way, way too profligate with the ball.

Re: World Soccer XVIII: A New Season

OK United. You can pull your head out of collective arse anytime now.

Please don't.

that game was awful. As much as I dislike ManU, it ****es me off to no end that not playing offense would work as a strategy.

At the same time, what do you expect a team like Rangers (or Celtic) to do against a vastly superiour squad? Walter Smith was right in his press conference: the disparity between the teams at the top of England, Spain, Italy and Germany toward the teams who win leagues in smaller nations rules out true competition. Teams like Rangers no longer have the financial ability to sign top-notch players the way they did 10-15 years ago, and as such, they have to play the way that gives them the best chance to get what they can get from a match.
