Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

All I know is, the guy performs on the biggest stage. I'll take that over a "poor strike rate".

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Everyone who had Germany winning by a 4-0 score, raise your hands.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Matt Greene Doppelganger, Schweinsteiger, should be the Man of the Match.

I couldn't argue with Schweinsteiger or Klose, but for my money Mueller's part in the first two goals was what won the game for Germany.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

We are now guaranteed that a new team will win outside of its own confederation...the only teams to previously win away from "home" were argentina and brazil. Obviously there is still a chance that CONMEBOL will retain that title as the only federation to do it but its less likely now that the big 2 are gone.

That doesn't really disprove the point that Klose benefits from outstanding teammates around him. You can't conclusively prove that, say, Brian McBride wouldn't also have scored 14 goals if he were getting the same opportunities as Klose.

Most of the best players in any team sport benefit from outstanding teammates around them.

Regardless, I was just putting up that stat as a point of reference.

I don't really have an opinion yay or nay about Klose and where he ranks among best finishers/strikers in the world/all-time etc.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Wow, Klinsmann is actually beaming. That's a happy man right there.

So you two would just hate it if she streaked? :D
It would be a silver lining, but I'd prefer to see Spain win, honestly.

Edit to add: Although the streaking would mean that Paraguay had won the whole thing, which would actually be pretty cool rather than one of the favorites.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Anyone else want to see a Germany/Netherlands final and Uruguay/Paraguay 3rd place game? Because I do.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

He was onside. Only his arms were offside.
Looking back on what was going on here while I was watching the game... please tell me that this wasn't in reference to the non-goal by Argentina when they had no fewer than FOUR players offside...

Works for me. Germany's always my second team after the US (on account of heritage... they share this spot with Austria and Norway), but even I have to admit that I wouldn't be all that upset if the Dutch took the Cup from the German's hands. Of all the countries without a Cup title that stand a chance of getting it, they're by far the most deserving.
