World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Strange as it sounds, the handball on the line is a smart play. (Though, realistically, it's probably a reflex action rather than thought out.) I mean, the ball is going in and the game is over, otherwise.

Absolutely. In that situation you do EVERYTHING you can to stop the goal. Regardless of consequence. Turns a zero percent save chance to a 10-15% chance.

Absolutely. I don't understand why it isn't goaltending (count the goal).

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Cheating Uruguayans with one of the most obvious handballs in a long time. Sadly the penalty shot goes off the bar. No justice.

Justice? Justice was the red card and the penalty kick opportunity, Bob. Just because your guy missed it doesn't mean justice wasn't done. Justice didn't require a goal there, the rules say that if you have a deliberate handball in the box, you're sent off and the other team gets a penalty. One might say it was a a calculated risk, because it beat having a goal.

What the hell is this? Prayer? God doesn't care about sports, even the World Cup. Know that.

This. No reason for the guy to cry about it, he did the correct thing in that case.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I have no idea why Suarez was so upset, unless that was just acting (which from what I've seen this WC it probably was). The handball was the only way he could keep Uruguay in it, and if they can win it in penalties, he'll be a national hero.

Amen to that.

Didn't you see Bruce Almighty?

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

In fact they have to if it comes to it (if they have that many penalties)

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Muslera has guessed right on both of the Ghana penalties and got a hand on Appiah's, I think.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

So far there have been 14 PKs taken in shootout in this World Cup, and none saved by the goalkeeper. Just the one that rang off the crossbar in the Paraguay-Japan game.

EDIT: I timed that one just perfectly. :D

Exactly. If people want to change the rule after this, go ahead, but thems the rules and it was a smart play given that.
