World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Ivory Coast nearly scores at 00:57. This could be interesting.

Looks like the North Koreans are already thinking of defecting instead of playing defense. :D I'm sure they have the route to the nearest embassy ready to go.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Tommy Smyth says Ghana will win tomorrow.

Guess we don't have to watch. :p

I'm starting to wonder about the weather. South Africa is entering its winter and granted South Africa isn't that far south there has been mention of temps near freezing. Seeing at this game starts at 8:30 locally I'm wondering if this plays into the American advantage (see USA-Mexico 02/28/2000 in Columbus, OH)

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Good point made by the analyst in the Ivory Coast-North Korea game. He says the European coaches may be handcuffing the African teams. He says they don't have the same attacking flair they normally have.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

You do realize the music's from Rudy, right?

Wherever it's from, I don't like it when a production thinks I need my hand held to appreciate a big moment like that goal. No worries, though; I'm still glad. I'd rather be annoyed at schmaltzy big victory videos than have lost, eh? :)

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Yaya Toure scores 1-0 CIV.

What's the over/under on the amount of goals that will send the North Korea team to the gulag for the rest of their lives?

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

CIV 2-0, right on beam at 19:56. They have also had one post, one called back, and one empty net miss.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Drogba nearly got his head on a 3rd in the box. I'm surprised he didn't do what he does best and dive.

And Kepler well played about the 10 goals for asylum joke. :D

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

And Ronaldo takes a shot from Cairo that just misses the net...

1. Kim Jong Il is missing out on about 4 hole-in-ones to watch this.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Why? They're already through. Just don't let Portugal score.

And since the Brazil keeper is the goalie for my fantasy team, a clean sheet would be nice. :)

If they can win by about 5 goals, they make a legitimate chance for Ivory Coast to finish second.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Ghana has shown no ability to score in open play so far, so while Gyan is certainly a quality striker I don't think we should be overcommitting our gameplan to him. Them missing Essien is helping us a lot.
They've generated a pretty fair number of chances from what I've seen though. There's enough randomness involved that it seems unrealistic to say they don't actually have ability to score from open play.

Edit to add: During qualifying, weren't we scoring a lot of goals from set pieces, and everyone was worried about the fact that we couldn't score from open play? Now all four of our goals have come from open play. Did we magically learn how to score from open play? No, of course not, because we didn't ever *not* know how to score from open play, that's just the way it works out sometimes.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Ghana worries me, as any team would at this stage, but they couldn't break down ten man Australia. I'm more worried about our ability to finish chances than what Ghana does going forward.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I'm a little conflicted. Do I watch the good game or enjoy the destruction of the Dear Leader's XI again?
