Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Looks like Arsenal got screwed pretty badly against Sunderland today.

And FIFA has promptly thrown the FA under the bus for not punishing Rooney...claiming the FA's belief that they couldn't suspend Rooney for violent conduct because of FIFA rules was incorrect.

Stunning.... lol. Like you could not see this coming 10 miles away... but, I will say this, Arsenal should have won the game about 14 times before the Arshavin non-penalty call. Also, the Sunderland goalkeeper Mignolet was sensational on more than a few stops. Credit Sunderland for hanging in there when they were full-on under siege all second half.

For those that did not see the no-penalty call, here it is....

Thank God Liverpool stepped up and took down Man Utd today. Helpful. Utd now up by 3 pts over Arsenal, but have played one more league game than Arsenal has. This is gonna be close...

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

That one counts.

Wolves 3
Tottenham 3

How on earth did Carragher not get sent off?

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

How on earth did Carragher not get sent off?

1) Nani's reputation - Him getting up to confront Carragher and then promptly theatrically falling afterward.
2) Dowd was extraordinary lenient today, he could have sent off Carragher, he could have sent off Rafael...I am still confused how with all the shoving Rafael got to commit that tackle AND shove Skrtel, Skrtel shoved him...and they each got yellows. Dowd controlled the game well until late.

Alex Trebek: This team presently resides atop the English Premier League standings.

Cute response but you know as a ManUtd supporter that you have this song called Glory Glory, Man United which all the teams that hate ManUtd have turned into a song called Who the **** are Man United, right? Or do you not know that. I don't expect many Man Utd fans to know anything about the team's history prior to 1995. ;)

Player takes out streaker, gets a red card:

http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/ne...gets-red-card-tackling-scantily-clad-intruder

LONDON -- The streaker wore green. The soccer player got a red card.

A man wearing nothing but a bright green thong and a curly black wig dashed onto the field during a low-level game in England on Monday.

Dorchester player-manager Ashley Vickers ended the intruder's 30-second jaunt with a thudding tackle during the 70th minute of the game against Havant & Waterlooville. Vickers was ejected for his efforts.

He says: "The funny thing was the stewards actually thanked me for it. But the ref decided to send me off."

Dorchester, which plays in the sixth tier of English soccer, lost 3-1. The score was 1-1 before the intruder appeared. Havant banned the streaker from the stadium.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

So, I'm actually very very excited for the MLS season to start next week. I think last year the quality of play improved dramatically and while the league remains physical, there's a new wave of skilled players coming to teams that make it very easy to like pace of the games. The new teams are adding some intrigue to the league and with the further expansion in Canada, the league is becoming much more inclusive.

Why would that be a bookable offense? He didn't attack a player.

I'm pretty sure violent conduct warrants a red card no matter who it's directed towards - your teammate, a coach, a spectator, an usher, whoever.

Ah crap. Who has two thumbs and forgot tos et his DVR for the Barcelona-Arsenal match? This guy. Barcelona take the lead on away goals at the stroke of halftime, from the Sky commentary it looks like a bonehead giveaway by Fabregas and then a great finish by Messi.

Precisely that. He got played through, flicked the ball over the keeper with the outside of his right foot, and volleyed it home with his left.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Amusing line from the Guardian:
For the neutral this really is a win-win match. Either the slightly smug tippety-tappety morally righteous team loses. Or, in an alternative scenario, the slightly smug tippety-tappety morally righteous team loses.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Arsenal scores on a Busquets own goal off a corner. I still think Busquets is two or three years away from being in the "best player in the world" discussion.

Villa managed to get in alone with Almunia almost immediately, well blocked.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

OH MY!

Van Persie sent off!!!!!! He is called for offsides, shoots well wide anyways, gets his second yellow! That's horrible, and I hate Arsenal.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Even the Barcelona commentators think that's ridiculous, and they're awful homers.

Sounded like Almunia got kicked in the face by Djourou right after the Villa chance AMC mentioned. Rough night for Arsenal GKs after Szczesny had to be subbed in the first half with a dislocated finger.

Are people saying Busquets is part of that discussion? He's pretty good, but not THAT good. FWIW I've been saying that the makeshift back line could hurt Barcelona today and it looks like it has.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Glad we cancelled satellite TV so I don't spend time watching rubbish like this referee.

They are reporting that there was one second between the whistle and Van Persie's shot, and he's sent off for that. Who is this clown referee anyways?
