World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Refs miss calls all the time. If Clattenburg would've seen it, I would not argue the sending off. However, he didn't.
The impression I have from reading this thread is that this isn't what happened; rather, that Clattenburg did see the incident, made no call, and that there is no discretion for the FA to subsequently hand down discipline in such a case.

Refs miss calls all the time. If Clattenburg would've seen it, I would not argue the sending off. However, he didn't. Being a Buffalo sports fan, I've been hosed by missed calls all the time. I cry and ***** for a while, but I get over it. If Tevez or Cesc were the offender, the fans of their teams would look the other way. (Especially if Giggsy or Berbatov got elbowed.)

Are you a complete git? Clattenburg DID see it, and he gave a foul for it. He didn't think it was bad enough to warrant even a yellow card. Only he can review the play and say he made a mistake. This isn't just a bad call, it's a terrible judgment call that on video review Clattenburg STILL thought he made the right decision. Your stupidity knows no bounds. Learn how the FA operates in violent conduct scenarios.

Even Sir Rednose said Rooney was fortunate to escape punishment. Sir Rednose would say Wayne Rooney was an Eskimo to get away with something.

Did you watch the match? He gave a free kick for a violent conduct elbow. Not even a yellow card.

Regardless, I think we can ALL celebrate the fact that Rooney was available to score against Chelsea this afternoon. Let's get them into the Europa League.

Things go bad to worse for ManUtd, with a fairly late penalty for Chelsea duly converted, 0 points taken from a game they dominated large swaths of...and then Vidic sent off for a second yellow in stoppage time and will miss the match against Liverpool.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

I wonder which official's family member was going to be given a concrete tomb by Roman if he didn't give that pen and second yellow to Vidic. :D

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Portsmouth continues to win, 5 straight clean sheets, the latest against S****horpe.

Are you trying to argue that Vidic shouldn't have been sent off? He absolutely should have been sent off. Your argument should be, how did Luiz not get sent off for what he did. And the penalty was a little dodgy because Smalling got the ball first and it was weird with the way the ball bounced around.

The auto-censoring of S****horpe is an endless source of amusement to me. :)

I was watching my '07-'08 United season review a few weeks ago and Martin Atkinson was the ref who gave the dodgy penalty against Carrick right at the death at the bridge that year to hand the game to chelsea. So that means three out of the last four years he has given Chelsea the game against United at the bridge. Last year was the '12 men' game. When I was driving to work today I was worried about Atkinson being in charge and ******* over United and that is exactly what has happened. How on earth can the premiere league put him in charge of this fixture every year?

Also, should Roo's goal that was waived off for offside have counted? Terry clearly plays the ball to Roo before he was involved.

We all know Roman has friends in high (or low) places. :D

United fans complaining about the referees when there have been occasions in the past where Ferguson said something like "Hey, it would be nice if (referee's name) did our match with (insert team)" and then had that referee assigned to the game? Hilarious.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

No one involved in a Chelsea-United match should be complaining about officiating. It's like listening to people at a country club complain about the prices at McDonald's.

In related news, I swear I must be getting most of my soccer news from deadspin lately. But they are the ones who are mourning the owl like no other.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Well, it is the FA's fault though. Not for this incident specifically- I agree it would have been slightly unfair to punish Rooney. But it is the FA's fault for having this idiotic system in place in the first place where if the referee sees the incident, nothing can be done.

No it is not the FA's fault, its a FIFA rule. You know FIFA, the ones that oversee soccer over the entire world.

Yep, you're right. I thought there was room for variation among countries, but I guess not.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Too bad I can't watch this game from work: 5 bookings already in a Celtic vs Rangers tilt. In other news, water is wet.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Jihads have less violence than this tie.

7 bookings plus Rangers is down to 10 men.

I'm not surprised. And I agree with you. I used to think the violence was only on the streets of Glasgow and Belfast. Boy was I wrong.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Only in this fixture do you read the following on bbc.co.uk :

"Credit to Beram Kayal, who sportingly knocks the ball out of play after his challenge on Rangers midfielder Steven Davis leaves the Northern Ireland star on the turf."

Isn't that what's supposed to happen?

In this tie, the Celtic/Rangers player is supposed to spit on the player he tackled. Not kick the ball out of play.
