World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

The new RBNY away kit is really sharp. Sharper if you don't buy a Thierry Henry shirt, IMO. I'm debating between Dane Richards and Tim Ream.

If I get a RBNY kit, it's going to be Tim Ream. No questions about it. If I get a home kit afterwards, it'll be either Agudelo or Lindpere.

Pompey won it's 4 straight, and 4th straight clean sheet. The addition of Cotterill from Swansea has been a valuable one.

Portsmouth is now middle of the table, 13 points clear of the bottom 3, and 10 points behind 6th, and a Playoff Berth. There are still 13 matches left, so it's not out of the question.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Something I forgot to mention upthread: Carlos Tevez seems to have a jheri-curl. What's that about?

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Shaking my head, that was even worse on replay. Goalkeeper dives at a ball that his defender can easily get to and is unpressured, it bounces right to a Birmingham player and he buries it into an empty net.

Birmingham wins the Carling Cup. 2-1 FT.

Amazing the amount of blown chances by Arsenal... I could not care less about the Carling Cup, but hate to lose games--- any games. Hope it makes them focus harder in the league and Champions League the rest of the way.

Perhaps he's endorsing this product...

Wayne Rooney will not be punished for his elbow. Ashley Cole will also not be punished for shooting someone at Chelsea's training ground with an air rifle.

He said he was sorry. Give the guy a break. It's not like he shot someone.

Oh wait...

I don't think it was you, but when I said I didn't care about Spurs going out against Arsenal, this was my defense. Yes, I HATE losing to Arsenal as a Spurs fan, but its the freaking Carling Cup. I'll take a Champions League run with rested players any day.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Don't you think it was a bigger deal for Arsenal this time around though, with the no trophies since 2005 and all that? Would have been a great opportunity to get the monkey off their backs.

Also, from a momentum standpoint, it's not exactly the best way to head in to the Barcelona fixture, is it? (I know they have Orient on Wednesday, but still).

Just shows that the FA is spineless! Clear Red Card offense on Rooney. Clattenburg is an idiot. Had that been a City player or even an Arsenal player...the FA would have been sending their henchmen after them!

Just a point of clarification, while the FA may be worthless overall, this is not their fault. Since the ref saw the incident and made his call, FIFA regulations don't allow the local FA's to step in and give punishment. They are only allowed to use video review if the referee missed it. So blame Clattenburg for being the worthless ref he is, and FIFA for being so afraid of using video review.

Well, it is the FA's fault though. Not for this incident specifically- I agree it would have been slightly unfair to punish Rooney. But it is the FA's fault for having this idiotic system in place in the first place where if the referee sees the incident, nothing can be done.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Love how you guys come after united. If the ref missed the call when your team was the offender, you'd praise Clattenburg for "Letting them play." :D

The biggest issue is what happened after the game, not what happened during it. Yes, it would have been nice if Clattenburg had actually seen it and sent Rooney off (rather than presumably catching it out of the corner of his eye), but the officials can't see everything that happens, particularly off the ball. The egregious error here is that there's no post-match suspension for a clear violent conduct offense.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Refs miss calls all the time. If Clattenburg would've seen it, I would not argue the sending off. However, he didn't. Being a Buffalo sports fan, I've been hosed by missed calls all the time. I cry and ***** for a while, but I get over it. If Tevez or Cesc were the offender, the fans of their teams would look the other way. (Especially if Giggsy or Berbatov got elbowed.)

Right, but why shouldn't there be a procedure in place to punish egregious misbehavior after the fact? Divorce yourself from the Rooney aspect of it for a second, and just think about it general. I see no reason why there shouldn't be.
