Grant Wahl is a journalist in the loosest sense of the word. There's no reason to speculate that.

Of course there isn't. Still fun though.

Arguably the best goalkeeper in the world has been subbed off. Has to be an injury.

Tretiak?

And we have our Keeper Cock-Up of the Day!

Meanwhile, Brian McBride has started bleeding and he doesn't know why.

They're saying it's a hamstring injury.

"How did he do that? The only thing he had to do was pick the ball up from the back of the net."

One thing that gets my goat: lower-case on jerseys.

E.g.: "cannavaro"

This not ESPN2 in 1993. All-caps looks so much better, CANNAVARO.

For Jim, there was just a tackle just like the one that got Cahill a straight red.

The guy didn't even get a yellow, since he already had one.

FT, 1-1.

Huge point for Paraguay.

A great comment that I saw on another board:

"I covet Steve McManaman's hair."

A draw was picked by only 14% at Yahoo. Only 15% had the Japan upset.

84% did have the Netherlands though ;)

Darren Rovell
Nielsen: 14.5M viewers watch US-England on ABC/Univision, highest avg. for men's national team since game vs Brazil in '94

I bet Robert Green was a Time Lord so he could go back and take care of that little gaffe of his. :D

Does anyone else remember when Nicky Shorey was a hot commodity for Reading, got a few caps?

He's set to go to Nottingham Forest. Quite the precipitous drop.

I don't see what the big fuss is with the horns.

I don't even hear them when I'm watching the games until someone makes a comment. Not to mention at most European soccer matches there are chants noisemakers etc so what's the difference?

People also say the squeek of shoes on a basketball court is annoying though and I don't hear that until people make comments either.

Because chants are normal and part of what makes soccer awesome and now we can't hear any chants or crowd noise.

Apparently, all the bees weren't being wiped out by that colony collapse disorder in '06. They just moved to South Africa, where their hives are planted around soccer fields and cared for lovingly by the natives.
